Dom, good to hear from you and thanks for the well wishes. Ken, the photos and explanation of your instrument panel was much appreciated. It's just as you described a couple weeks ago, right down to the future. I hadn't really thought about how much better the Eduard stuff looks when it's 3D as opposed to flat. Good stuff!

Thank you Mike, I appreciate your compliments!!  Smile

So have you heard anything yet about your ankle?

Gamera

Yeah, I have to agree with Mike, the Eduard stuff looks great in the 3D panel. And I'm still impressed that you have all of the dials- I'd have lost about 75% of them somehow.

Thank you Cliff for the compliments!!  Smile  I am amazed myself that I haven't lost one yet!

One thing I will do different on the rest of them is add a dab of Future underneath the dial to hold it in place.  I had trouble with the last batch moving on me when I was applying the Future on the top.

Hi Everyone!

I have the center instrument panel dial faces done!

I will work on the left and right front panels tomorrow (a total of four dial faces).  Then I will add color to the knobs and the panel markings.  I am really pleased with it so far!  Smile

Ken, that is amazing! I agree with the others! If I tried to do something like that, I have no doubt that there would be a very fat, well fed Carpet Monster sleeping under my desk!

In the mean time, I had to take today off to take care of some business. I did make a trip to Hobby Lobby after I finished, and sometimes when I'm there, I wander around to look at all the stuff there. I ran across something you suggested Ken! It was less than 5 bucks, so thought I would try it:

Hi Jim,

The carpet monster picture made me laugh!  Thank you for that!  And thank you for the compliments, I really appreciate them!

Great looking mirror for your Growler!  It is the perfect size too!  However it was Cliff that suggested it, and I am glad he did.  It looks great with your Growler sitting on top!

Ah! My apologies to Cliff!

And I missed the post about the wreck! Glad you're OK! It always happens that insurance pays for it's worth on the market, but never what it takes to replace it. I have a friend who is raising 3 grandchildren after their drugged out parents took off. They had a van they needed to haul them around and when it got wrecked, it cost twice what insurance paid to find a suitable vehicle!

Hi Everyone!

I have all the dials put into front instrument panels!  Still need to add the panel colors, probably later this evening.

The Flory wash showed up today also.  They shipped pretty quick considering it came across the pond!  I am glad I ordered it straight from Flory Models instead of waiting for Sprue Brothers to get it back in stock.  They still show it out of stock!

First off, Growler looks great from that perspective. Some of my models I wouldn't want a mirror underneath but your's looks great. We're having some more super cold weather here and in fact it snowed last night. Not a lot but enough to cause havoc and chaos with the drivers here. I'm taking it easy this week end and cooking some chili (again) I've got to find a good heat level so my girlfriend will enjoy it with out burning off her tastebuds. Hotter is better for me. She's staying the weekend so I won't get much done on the modelWink As far as the ankle goes I have to see the ortho doc. My doctor was somewhat ambiguous about the results. I'm thinking he referred me to the orthropod as a CYA thing. Here's a pic of the cockpit work I did earlier this week.

The cockpit looks great Mike!  Good work so far!  Yes  Yes

Well that makes something we both have in common (besides building models!), I love hot spicy food.  In fact I used to grow habaneros and eat them straight off the vine!  Eats  I also buy hot sauces, always looking for the hottest ones.

I hope the ortho doc is able to fix you up and help you get this resolved.  You must be getting tired of dealing with the pain and aggrevation by now!

Now I am hungry for chili again!

We are having a bit of a "heat wave" right now.  It is all the way up to 19 degrees now with a wind chill of only 11 degrees.  And more snow!  It is snowing now and more coming tonight.  Then Sunday night back to 2 degrees below zero again and Monday night down to 10 below zero.  But by the end of next week they are predicting a high in the lower 30s!

I see all of the work being great work being done today and I am envious! It's Saturday and I had to put on my maid outfit for a round of laundry, kitchen cleaning, fighting off the nasty things living in the fridge and disposing of them, vacuuming, cleaning the fish tank a little, etc. I've got to get me a girlfriend so she can clean my house, while I work on my projects.....

Yeah, I know how far that would go!

I was wondering about these "Weathering Master" sets made by Tamiya? Saw them over at Hobby Lobby and I am a bit curious. The reviews I saw online seemed positive, and it looks like something to try on an armor project, though it looks like some of it could also be used on an aircraft.

As to weather, we had some nasty cold temps here and snows earlier in the week. On Wednesday, the high was a whopping 4 degrees! Friday we caught a break as we had these winds out of the west from the high country, and when that happens, the air heats up and warms as it drops in altitude. We went from a minus 10 overnight to the 40's on Friday and it got to the mid 50's today.

Wish I had gotten outside to enjoy it as the snow and cold return on Sunday.

Well I can say that it does help having a wife to split the household chores with.

We have not been above freezing since last Saturday.  And with the over 9 inches that got dumped on us (again) on Wednesday we are supposed to get another 2-3 inches tonight.  This winter I have not seen the grass on our lawn but only a few days.  Since the beginning of December we have mostly only seen snow.  I am tired of it.  Constantly clearing it off of my driveway and sidewalks in addition to my Mom's house.

The local weather man has been saying that toward the end of this month we are going to start seeing above normal temperatures.  I hope he is right!

On another note, I just ordered this paint brush from Sprue Brothers:

It is a lot finer paint brush than I have used before.  I will see if it helps me get a finer detail on some of those cockpit instruments.

Well, I'm going to try and get some work done on the model today while I do some laundry etc. The cockpit on this plane is rather spartan and because this has a fair amount of glass I'm going to try and jazz it up a little. I still have weathering, i.e., scuffs and such to add. Also I painted the gun pedestal a metallic black to give some more life to the gunner's hole. There's not a whole lot of reference material on this particular aircraft so I'm using more artistic license than usual. I'm dreading masking the canopies as there is a ton of glass. That'll consume much time and patience!

Can't remember who asked about the Tamiya weathering stuff  but I have used it and have found it's a good addition to my workbench. Generally speaking I think the consensus here and elsewhere is positive. I include a pic of the engines of my build and the silver I used to highlight them. The cool thing about them is they are somewhat sticky unlike some pigments. As I say, they're not the only weathering tool I use but I can say they work for me.

Jim: The Carpet Monster- it's a real 'Animal' all right! LOL!!! The mirror looks good, it's nice to be able to see all the extra work you added to the underside without having to pick the model up and take a chance on breaking something everytime you want to show her off.

Mike: I've got the same set of weathering stuff but after playing around with it a little tossed it in the drawer with my other weathering items and haven't used it in years. Guess I should pull the thing out and give it another go.

Ken: Cool looking brush. I normally just use fairly cheap ones even for detail painting, seems it's mainly a matter of keeping it clean and making sure the tip stays pointy.

Hi Everyone!

Exciting news from Trumpeter!  They have some interesting new kits in their 2014-2015 catalogue!  Intriguing to me are the following:

A-37A Dragonfly, due to be released this year in June:

They have also listed the A-37B Dragonfly, but I have not seen a release date for it yet:

Also one that I am very interested in is a 1/32 F-100F (no release date yet):

A couple more that peaked my interest is a 1/48 F-106A and F-106B:

It looks like it will be a good year!  Now I need to start saving up for them!

Hi Everyone,

More progress on Lt. Colonel Don James's Hoosier Hotshot.  I added some lettering to the front instrument panel:

I also painted the backside of the headrest, ejection seat rails, and the armor shield that goes behind the pilot's head:

Nice panel there Ken!

Hello from the electronic nightmare world! First, the little TV in the hobby room has been conking out on me! I spent half the day Sunday driving around looking for something. What I picked out was out of stock, and what I ended up with, I don't like. It also got some bad reviews online and will be going back.

My little MP3 player zonked out on my trip! I usually plug it into the deck so I don't have to put up with all those commercials and endless repetition. It froze up and wouldn't respond! Happily, after being allowed to fully discharge its battery, it has recovered.

Internet! The last several weeks, I have had non-stop disconnects and low speeds! Often my speeds were clocking in at around .47 Mps and I signed up for 1.5! Turns out, (or so they say) a recent upgrade to fiber optics is causing problems for old hook-ups! Solution: plug me in to the new system-and by the way, do I want an upgrade as long as they are at it? I don't know..... It's only 5-6 dollars more! Well, ok. Oops! A problem! Your 15 year old modem won't work with the new set-up! Aw, gee! I can't really afford a modem... No sweat, dude! I fixed so you get it free!

I wonder if it is just a way to jump you into an upgrade....

Anyway, I'm now at 7 Mps, tested at Speedtest.net as 6.7 Mps. Plus it is wireless, so if i end up with a laptop, I'm set. It also looks like it will network up to 4 devices as well. It means me and 3 of my imaginary wives and girlfriends can share the connection!

In the meantime, I worked on some of the PE blade antennae:

Some actually will have decals as well!

Also worked on the cockpit for the Voodoo. Decal placement was vague, so for all I know they may be upside down. I wanted OOB and that's what this is.

Some of the decals are out of register as well...( OOB! OOB!-remember!)

The side panels are, well...... a bit cartoonish? (OOB! Think! OOB!)

Ken, a quick question for you: under wireless set up for this thing, it shows a security code/passphrase: am I protected against somebody using my connection? It will also allow me to turn off the wireless radio. Would this be safer until I actually need the wireless?

You can see the out of register white on the decal. This one will get a closed cockpit for sure...

Hi Jim,

Thank you for the compliments!  And great job bending that photo etch antenna blades, that looks great!  The Voodoo is coming along nicely.  Yes  Yes

As to the security on your wireless, if it does not have the default password it is fairly secure.  And of course, if you are not using the wireless, the most secure would be to turn it off.

Nice cockpits all around guys! So a few dials are off on yours Jim, I wouldn't worry too much- maybe because I always end up doing stuff like that...

And are you sure your neighbor isn't hitting you with some sort of EMP burst!?! Dead Or more seriously maybe some sort of powerline spikes? Just seems funny for all your electronic stuff to burn out near the same time, or maybe it's just rotten luck, I dunno...

Ken: Thanks for the head's up there! IMHO the F-106 is probably the nicest looking of the Century Series after the F-101. Cool to see a new state of the art kit!

Hi Everyone!

Well we set a new record low temperature for this date here in Lafayette Indiana this morning!  It was 18 degrees below zero!  Our high today only reached about 10 degrees above zero.  We are heading toward another cold night tonight with a predicted low of 8 degrees below zero.

Good news though is that starting next week we are in for a warm spell.  They are even predicting thunderstorms!

Unreal Ken! I remember one time we had 18 below here! I was driving an VW Bug back then, and I was running straight 30W oil in it. I couldn't get it to start, and when I pulled out the dip stick, the oil looked more like grease! I was also working outdoors in a lumberyard and it was bad!

Hi, Guys,

My apologies for not posting lately but for some reason my subscription to this thread keeps getting deleted. This is the second time and it's only this thread that's doing it. I thought things seemed awfully quiet and decided to check in.

I'll do some catching up now.

Cheers,
