I hate it when an F4 goes in.  Had to go out and recover ECM classifieds on one once.  Only thing we found identifiable was the anaylizer base plate. 

Last time I went out was on the lake bottm that is usually under 70-80 feet of water.  Hit the old stream bed cleaning out broken bedrock and the dirt in the cracks as I pulled pieces apart.  Ran about a 5 gal bucket of 1/4" screened material and ended up with 8 grains (1/3 dwt or 1/60th troy oz.)  More than I ever got on that creek before.  Spent about 5 hours actual work time with it. Went back up in mid Dec., and back under 25 feet of water now.

You will trip across that stuff when you least expect it Bocs.......

Yeah, Berny recovered an F-4 from Laos once, it landed in a paddy - intact.

Always surprises me, even after all these years, how much denser gold is than silver. But palladium, silver, platinum, and gold are snug as a bug on the periodic table....dang electron orbitals....

15:55 Update: Found the original iron bomb build box, so now have sprues and the pylons from my BUFF in hand! They were with an Revell F-4 nose assembly build box so I didn't go looking for it but now my F-4 is back on the build table again Big Smile

There is another large box - the CIA B-52 is sending a strong signal Kong!

Dom, As the Brits say, "job done". After I take mom to town tomorrow I will spend a few hours going over the BUFF now that it back on the base. Dang 781s... But at least those CFM-56s are a lot less maintainance than the ole J-57s!! WX channels say5 degrees tonight but its already -2 here, Cripes I hate Canadian weather... Start slingin the glue on that BUFF Dom and Git R dun! Whats the latest poop on Russ? he been around? Wanted to ask ya you said you have a couple model cars, what are they? Majer Kong

Al, I had the engines packaged individually in baggies and marked SO,SI,PO,PI and way back when fer some reason re-bagged them, without the identifiers. Oh well, it's not like I have anything lese to do. I was using Russ' build and the way he finished his engines to detail them, and I've lost my place in the book!

Hey, I hate Canadian weather too, and our peso is sinking faster than the Bismarck. It is now -8C outside, and the the ground is sending seismic frost booms into the building.

I lost one of the cars, actually, it was a pick-up truck, from the 50's, maybe a batmobile as well in the stacks, but my memory is shot. The one I have found is a '67 Chevy Impala, AMT. I had a real one, 1968 Biscayne, 427 Munci 4 speed, 4 bolt crank, 4:11 rear ratio, 10.25:1 compression ratio, donut maker.AngryDevilAngel or something there abouts, I have an original assembly line ticket around here...somewhere...

Now I can't stop thinking about sleucing for gold, thanks to you and Hammer. You see, over my years, I've owned shares in three different gold minig companies...Boo Hoo

Back in the early 70's they had cracking issues on the turtleback floors....before they got to this one it went in, pilot and wizzo got out.   Story was he got a fire warning on one engine and when he looked to see what was going on, the second one lit off.  Time to go.

 

After tech school I spent 3 months working the BUFF "G" at Beale, and the rest of my time on F-4's, mostly on RF's and E's with a little on the D in Thailand, and down at Shaw.

 

Glad your goodies survived the moves and turned up.

Quick, glue the suckers <---- (see what I did there..) on before ya forget where they are!!! So ya know, the CIA BUFF is ready for its next mission...

Dont think your gonna sluice much at -8 If ya got any old computers or phones, there gold in them too and you can do that indoors.

 

The one I had back in my younger years I wish Id kept was a black SS  427 Impala 4 speed convertible with factory air, and dad had a  red 1969 Ford Galaxy 500XL with a 390 4 speed. Love to have em both back now...

Hammer; that sounds like quite the tour. I would like to build an RF, actually started one, but realized I didn't have enough background to finish it, so I reverted back to a G, I think. I need to go back and review, it's been so long since I've worked on anything. I have about 3 F-4's in 1/32 and about five in 1/48. A bunch in heavy plastic at about 1/72.

The old Revell Immelmann was a 1/32, and I never should have started it, it was badly, badly warped probably from being stored on a radiator or under a car windshield in summer. it was such a beauty kit, then I found out the plastic was as crispy and fragile as a potato chip..... now it's waiting for me to finish the scratch intakes. I should have left it as an RF, but when I started wasn't sure where to saw the nose off...

Oh Well.

More good news guys, I figured out the PO, PI, SI, SO engine pylons and found the bomb bay doors and inner brackets, as well as the bomb mags/clips I started with Russ.

I may just finish as the original 'Nam version on the box but with the upgrades. I can build an Crome Dome nuke version from one of the AMT kits.

Hey, I also found my grandmother's tiny gold watch from the 1930's, does that count?

All the best with the new valve, you're making me feel humble about my ops. I seem to have rebounded a bit, and great to be here again!

Looking forward to seeing your builds as well Russ.

I'm trying to get my old website back up and running, then a new camera to take pictures of my progress. Honestly didn't think I'd see my build boxes again, they were so misplaced and packed a lot of time and morphine ago.

Tomorrow I'll try to get my head wrapped around the bomb clip project, I have the clip frames all cut out and trimmed from your manual's blue print.

I lost the link, but I want to use it to finish the BUFF.

Hey, Dom,

I think the glue you're thinking about is Gator Grip acrylic glue. I found it in several places. Here are a couple of links:

Not a chance. My nickname is "Frog" and we frogs dont do winter. I only go out to carry in firewood, feed the cat and to plow.  May bust out my last monogram B-52 and start it tonite, just aint figgered out what scheme I want. Its an original release kit from the 60s. I have 2 pre phase B-52Gs from AMT but I just cant bring myself to start those piles of crap.

Fire wood? ...and I think I am old fashioned on my 'cabin diet' to save on expensive groceries. -I can't bring myself to pay 8 bucks for cabbage, just can't do it.... Yeah, love the old Mono Buff kit...and none of that sand texture to the plastic either.

Guys,

Started my last Mono B-52D tonite. Gonna be a D (56-0684) deploying for "Bulletshot".Hope to have the gear partially retracted.

For some reason the reply started working again... Sorta

This kit was sealed in 1969 when I was 5 years old. I am now 51.... May install the "authentic jet engine sound" along with some recently salvaged nav and landing LEDS.... need to salvage a little Cat5 cabling as well

Stabs all glued, engines/pylons, tip tanks and cockpit as well. Will get the stabs in black tomorrow along with the cockpit painting as well.Man those pilots are gotting smaller with each kit. Got a buncha gear parts ready to go under the knife as well. Added another 24 MK117s to my bucket 'o bombs tonite.

Looks like plan "B" is in order. All my green LEDs are more of a yellow than green, Sos I grabbed the bucket of white ones for the landing gear doors and they are all the same "yellow as the green ones when powered up.... And not a Radio Shack in sight....Any ideas fellas???

You might try Walthers (http://www.walthers.com/) . They deal mostly with model rail stuff but they  have a lot of scratch building supplies including all kinds of lighting.

Dom,

Spent 1 1/2 hrs putting together the "Authentic jet engine sound" very carefully so as to make it work correctly. Hooked it up the the batteries and it sounds more like a cat in me fanbelt. Turns out the bearings in the motor are all dried out... Lets see if the leds go any better. Did manage to get the MLGs cut and reglued in the correct  mid-retraction position. Gonna bore some holes tomorrow in the wings for position lights. Lets see how that goes.

 No luck on the leds from my local store... I have 3mm red led that is for the port wing. I still need to get a green 3mm for starboard. Was going to add the forward MLG door landing light but since it will be displayed at takeoff the light wouldnt be on anyway....

 

Vertical stab is done and decalled. MTF

Hey Russ, I got some of that Gator Glue, it looks like a white paste, so I'll use a fine brush to apply it when I get there. I nee to figure out the paint issue...

I think Im just  gonna leave the jet sound out as its to be installed internally behind the cockpit. Its not acessible unless the fuselage is cracked open. Still on the hunt for some 2.8 or 3mm white leds.. Gonna paint the MLG and wheels tomorrow. Supposed to rain so that will be perfect for getting some BUFF stuff fluffed....

Hey Kong, I don't blame you. Years ago Tamiya and Bandai put motors in their tank models, and they would go across the room a couple of times and a wheel axle would break off...

I regret not getting into the radio controlled stuff way back then. I did make Estes rockets and had fun launching them, but then school interupted that. If I had focused on the RC stuff I'd be the Drone King today.....Tongue Tied

Besides, I would never want to put a mechanical part in any project then glue it there permanently...stuff always breaks in the kit world.

I came up with a paint hood solution but have one last problem - actually moving and assembling all the stuff then figuring out how to keep squirrels from getting inside the vent. I need some kind of extra heavy mesh - another project -

Dom,

 

 As far as the lighting goes, ive got the red light for the left wing nailed. Went through my"Green" lights and when powered up they seem more yellow than green.. No problem I just install the white lights inboard.... EVERY SINGLE white light I have is the same color when lit as the green ones. Looks like Im kinda on hold until I can find a bag of actual white lights. I will install them in all four positions and where red/green goes I will cut little pieces of toothbrush handle and sculpt them into lenses... Kripes

 

Ebay has the 2.8 and 3mm light for sale in bulk but there coming from China and Im not even considering that...

 

Get those J-57s mounted, or have you lost them already??Whistling
