Kong;

Good luck with the LED's. After 1972, I never put a battery in a model kit again. I admire your ingeniousness to carve a lense out of toothbrush plastic, it's a good idea. The closest I get to that are Tru-Glo front sights Angel

It might be an idea for me to try putting the lights in but without the actual LED's.

Yeah, I'm waiting on a laser bore sight from China, I ordered it, now that I think about it, prawley 5 years ago! Big Smile It was cheaper than a laser pointer and won't break if I drop it. I use them for a micro flashlight when camping. Idea

Oh yeah, J-57's, I actually did the opposite and removed the pylons because, because, hmmm..... ferr gott. I was trying to get them to look like the ones in Russ' pictures.

The exhaust plastic is way too thick, so I'm filing out the insides and trying to make the exhaust cones look better, as if anyone will see them when they're hanging from the ceiling. But not many folks outside this website build BUFF's anyhow. Maybe just a few thousands of us in the whole wide world.CoolTravel

I found my round riffler files on the weekend by accident, I was looking for sandpaper, so now I can start finishing those exhausts as originally planned. Hey; I actually started thinking about the paint scheme and looking for flat black and olive drab in my stacks of supplies. Did I already say my Badger is in the trunk of my car? -since August or so? One of the last things I moved out of the house,,,

Good luck with the lensesSmile

Dom,

Went to paint the black on the engines, (primered them last night) and discovered that the primer had cracked on all 4 engine pods. They are all soaking in the strip tank as we speak. Have no idea as to what happened.  I swear, Im gonna take up knitting!!

Bad news is I can't drink any beer while I'm on the meds.No

Good news is I can't drink any beer... my doc loves hearing stuff like that...Dunce

Still haven't got to my website to post pics yet, but it is on my list.

Two weeks flew by. Saturday I got the last of the kits put away after setting up a table stand for my paint hood. This is a big step, and now I'm going to get the pieces for my hood out of storage. It's times like this I thank goodness I didn't throw the thing away. As many of you know, sometimes under massive stress and lack of space we do things we regret later.

A pal of mine just got rid of his entire train set from the 60's and 70's - almost 300 rolling stock pieces. He said he had collected almost 50 engines alone. He sold a single package of 25 engines to someone at a model train show. Another package had 10's of lumber flatbeds. He also disassembled the big track set that took up an entire top floor of the old family home. He had hundreds of feet of silver-nickle track.

He gave me three beautiful engines, and get this, two flat beds - one with Panzer IV's and a King Tiger Panzer Jaeger! He also left me a paper sign from the train room:

WARNING!

HOBBY POX!

Contagious to all ages!

Gosh, I came so close to setting up tracks as a kid...glad I stuck with styrene aircraft.

Happy President's Day guys!

Welcome aboard Crownr! Welcome Sign

The most important rule is that you can't hurt any real BUFFs in the making of your kit...Big Smile

I wish I could see that small, I have an original Revell solid plastic kit from the 50's, and it's the smallest BUFF I have. All scales welcome.

I'll put your build on the list.

It's great to have those spares. I used to love finding and collecting kits and even built-ups from friends. Actually, an old pal is moving and has decided to give all his model stuff to me, and I said yes. Oh boy, more Harriers and sci-fi stuff....

Yeah, some guys dream about wealth, women, winchesters, and wine, but me, my best dreams are almost all the same: I walk into an old shop somewhere and what do you know, they have stacks of old kits hidden on the back shelves no one in town ever wanted to buy for decades. It's almost always 50's and 60's aircraft...stacks of them. Sometimes there's a tank or ship...Stick out tongue

So, I may have mentioned here, I have a set-up for my paint hood but can't get to it as it is still buried,,,at least I know where it is this time. I found all the paint sets and tools. Digging out from the last 2 years has been rough, but there's light up at the edge of the trench! IdeaCool

Hey Kong, guys building BUFF's are always welcome here.

This isn't a big busy town like some of the other threads, which is fine. That's one of the things I like about FSM, there's something for everybody. Honestly, I wish more guys would just build more BUFFs where ever they want to! Smile

Try not standing on yer head fer a change!Big Smile

Wish I had a gold magnet...mind you, panning for recreation does sound like fun. I'm such a tin-horn jasper, I figure I'll be tripping over 50 pound nuggets just to get to the real big ones.

I tried fishing for recreation but after working at a 30-foot seafood counter for a few years it kinds a' dun took all the fun out of it. Besides, after you've cleaned and filleted a 150 pound Alaskan halibut, you can never go back to stream trout.Wink

Dom,

It cracks me up when a fella brings a 45oo dollar  2" suction dredge in and works for two days and pulls 25 bucks wortha "G", And then he says, "We killed it this weekend" like hes making millions. If you know where to look, I can put that dredge to shame with a 15 dolla plastic dog dish....

Gold magnet?? get ya a woman-same thing she pulls the gold and yer still broke....

I emailed Jeff and told him to get his butt over to FS and get signed up.

I may send ya a pic of this weekends haul of AU later

Well Kong; I heard research up hear and they said that it costs $10,000 a year to date a gal, on average. I figure if you throw in holiday spending and trips to the Bahamas with your mamma it could easily balloon to that much. You could buy two of those 2" auto-sluicers for that!!!

Just about got my 2 1/2 inch dredge ready to go.  We will have this year to hit non-salmon waters here.  Managed to kill a bill that would have pretty much ended the practice in this session, but it will be back with a vengence next year.  Working the GPAA show in Portland in early April with our chapter.  Can't wait for mid May and first of June to get here to hit the claims and areas I have access to.

Hey guys;

I was setting up my new hobby room then got completely derailed.

My brother was diagnosed with terminal cancer so late spring and summer have been rather awful. I find it almost impossible to think about building.

I even stopped unpacking and moving into the apartment. I'm a cave man right now.

They gave him until November. I was in Ohio a few weeks back to see him and he's not looking good.

Oh well guys, I hate abandoning all of you and this great thread, but I'll probably be out of sorts until next spring.

I will return mesages if you send them.

All the best,

Dom

Very sorry to hear that, Dom. Your brother will be in my prayers. Take care and we'll all hope for a miracle.

Thank you Russ!

I don't want to whine about my troubles, but I'm also very glad to know some of

you guys are on my side! It's been rather rough, I buried a friend two weeks ago whom died suddenly while grabbing a midnight snack out of the fridge. Hey, on Thursday my X called to say my dog is dying of a pancreatic disease.

This is just the way it goes, as most of you have gone through these things a few times already. Look, I'll keep you all posted and see if I can pull it all back together.

I think it is just another of those bad times; a few weeks ago a pal was kicked out by his wife and he ended up billeting in my hobby room, his kids wouldn't offer him a couch! There's good news though, she broke her foot so as it turned out he only crashed for 2 nights before the damsel called him back to nurse-maid her. Except now all his stuff is crammed into my hobby room SLEB...

My head is spinning right now.

I'll keep you posted.

Dom

Thanks Duke!

Late today he seemed to begin coming back to life.

We still don't know what hit him.

Anyways, he was able to walk around a bit this afternoon

which was a huge improvement.

Yesterday I thought he was a goner.

(He's just yanking our chain to get more goodies!)

Thanks again for the good words,

Dom
