Here is the packaging for George Peppard's "Blue Max" Pfalz D-III.
The instructions are very helpful for building the film version, complete with all its inaccuracies.
I've been laboring with the engine, which is loaded with flash and troubled by substantially misaligned molds, leaving lots of clean up. In addition, it doesn't fit in the cowling without a lot of filing, fiddling and fitting. This will not be a "shake-the-box" build. The entire kit is overly endowed with flash, actually.
I'll post some photos when I have something worthwhile to post. In the meantime, a couple of "Max Facts," which I hope to continue through the build, if there are enough interesting facts out there.
1. The film “The Blue Max” is based on the first of three novels (The Blue Max was published in 1964) written by Jack D. Hunter, following the exploits of Bruno Stachel from World War I through World War II. The film was released in 1966.
Which leads to "Max Fact" number 2:
2. Contrary to the film, Lt. Stachel does not die while testing a new aircraft in the latter days of WWI. In fact, he does not die at all.
It's been enjoyable seeing everyone else's progress so far. Nice work, guys!
