that is what is so cool about Mark's stuff,,,,from 1/1200 to 1/48 is possible, depending on your subject,,,,,,and he gives us the differences in cruises, he doesn't make us use 1968 Enterprise on the 1969 cruise

Yup, Mark's stuff is what I use.  I did up some Devastators for the 1942 GB--I think 17 or 18 of them; I might have had some "wastage."

Mark's decals are great for the rudders.  I don't know how I'd paint thirteen stripes in 1/700.

Well, I wish you good luck with this project. I wouldnt even think of building something that tiny! I can't wait to see how they turn out.

How man are you building btw?

Cheers, Clemens

However many were in the air on 20 February, 1942--if I have that many.  Have to check the references in The First Team to be certain.

I just updated the entry list.

Welcome to the GB. Joe and checkmate!

How are you going to paint those wildcats btw? They must be so tiny...

Ghost, are you in too? If yes, just tell me the scale of your kit and I'll put your name on the list as well.

Clemens

Yup, I'm in, that kit's in 1:48 scale.  I just picked it up from the hobby shop and opened it up.  wow, the detail looks awesome,  the only downsides are the instructions that barely deserve the name, and the lack of folding wings, which is going to take up a lot of shelf space.

I'm thinking about diving in with the Academy TBM-3 Avenger.  Any thoughts?  I've heard its a reboxing of the Accurate Miniatures/Italeri TBF, is there anything else I should know?

My absolute favorite kit!  It is a real jewel!

You should know thats an awesome kit. Good selection!!

After building  so may of the AM Avengers I can offer 1 tip that will make the build go even smoother:  If you build up and paint the turret, then insert it into the cockpit deck BEFORE closing the fuselage halves you will save a huge headache down the road of trying to fit that turret in after the halves have been joined.  It is by no means impossible to do afterwards, you just need the right angle, but why fiddle with it?

I'm looking at getting Eduard's TBM-3 Avenger color detail set PE for the cockpit and maybe an aerial torpedo for the bomb bay if I can find one.

To regularly operate from a carrier, yes; but....

Holy Hannah!  I stand corrected.  <G>  That said, I'm still building a Whale.

Put me down for a 1/48 Revell SBD Dauntless there  Clemens. That'll be my next project after my Fw 190 A8/R2 I'm building. My 9 year old son Joseph and I are doing this one together. so when you enter it tag it as Joe and Joseph(MVP). Thanks, Joe

Clemens, my contribution will be Trumpeter's 1/700 scale Wildcats, representing VF-3 (which replaced VF-2 for that particular cruise), aboard USS Lexington in February, 1942.

Yay! Another bird in a bigger scale! I'm glad you are joining the fun, Stik!

I put you in the entry-list.

I'm afraid, I have to put in my big Trumpy Harrier too, but it's so huge... And 3 planes for one GB are more than enough.

Cheers, Clemens

just playin' around here, but

"Look Ma, No Hook" had it easy,,,,,,that was a supercarrier, a fifth of a mile long, for tests only, and on an angled deck

the Neptune P2V-3Cs took off from straight deck Midway class carriers

Perfect.  I'm in with a 1/72 Hasegawa EA-3B Skywarrior. Largest plane to ever be carrier qualified.

Thanks Eagle. It is a beauty! I built one while I was overseas in 2005 and loved that kit... too bad it had to stay behind. I bought one once I got home and have been looking foward to doing it up better.

Put me down for a 1/32 Hasegaaw A-4E, VA-192

Sweet.  I remember as a kid going to the "big" hobby shop in Tampa and seeing a 1/32 A-4 in the glass case by the cash register.  I finally got that old Hasegawa kit in my stash now.  Can't wait to see your build stik.  This will be one of those nostalgic builds for me.

As long as you build it with USN or USMC markings, this bird does qualify...

So, Welcome to the GB, MAgather!

I'll put you in the entry list.

And just to whet the appetite, here is one that while it breaks the rule about "not having the fuse glued together"  <VBG>, definitely qualifies:

RA-5C Vigilante, RVAH-11, Uss Independence, Gulf of Tonkin Yacht Club edition.

Never having entered a group build before, I will need guidance if admitted. While I'm not a huge builder of Navy birds, I do have a couple in the stash, and this has prompted me to get designs on one that I've had waiting for a dozen years or more.

I also had committed that this year would be my year to start on the Tamiya F-14A original release that I bought 30 years ago and have been afraid to start for fear of my skills not being adequate. I just know there is no way that particular project will get done by 12/31.

In looking to avoid a 'me too', I pulled out my Hasegawa Skywarrior. My concern is that my chosen livery appears to be a ground pounder flying out of Rota, Spain (probably shadowing Rooski's in the Med).  I also have a pic of a sister bird on the Tarmac at NAS Alameda.

Would that bird qualify? If not, maybe a trip to the LHS is in order, as they had an EKA a year or more ago and I've got the options to do either a Roosevelt or Kittyhawk skinned tanker.

Worst case I've got a RoG F-18 that could be pressed into service.

Let me know and I'll give you my decision.
