You're in, Tony!

Welcome to the Carrier GB!

No problem at all, John! Happened to me as well... Please just remove the post, so it wont take up half a page. (I was a little bit confused when I saw your post Wink)

Hi Clemens,

Put me down for a 1/72 Hasegawa Buffalo. This GB looks good.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

I would be happy if you join this, Dre. But finish your projects first. I love the Harrier btw...

If there's any GB here that would attract your attention, Tarn, I'd have to think it would be this one!

I really want to jump in on this GB, but I have to wrap up other commitments (and soon!) before I can add to my schedule.  But...   lurking in the stash are a F-14D, A-4E, SBD-4 and a AV-8B II+, all 1/32 and most with goodies.

that is a cool E-1 back there in the stack

I am making do with the Falcon Vac conversion for my E-1, and I only have 2 more Stoofs and a Viking for my ASW tasking

I am very much itching for the start date, here

when I cut my collection down, I chose USN/USMC Naval aviation as my focus,,,,,,,so, this is almost like a "home build" to me now

I have a Scooter, a Phantom and a Hellcat to clear off the bench by the time this starts

TarnShip

oh, and that caption is wrong in that Warbird Tech book,,,,,,,,they weren't in Korea, they were in the Atlantic fleet at that time, according to the USN's own periodic reports

and believe me, no one risked a court martial by gun-decking those reports to the fleet listing "what we have" and "how many in total of those we have",,,,,,BuNos would have given that away, right off

Thanks for the additional info on the AD-5N and it not participating in the Korean conflict Yes

I really like your A-4 Skyhawk fleet build that would look awesome .

Along with the Skyraider the S2F tracker is also my favourite Navy plane .

I had trouble deciding  between the Tracker and Skyraider for this group Build Indifferent

I settled on a Skyraider thinking it would get me motivated to finishing some of the already started builds .

Hopefully I may be able to squeeze in a E-1B tracer after the Skyraider  .....................Hopefully !

cool build list

I cut my Skyraiders down,,,,,,only 4 of the Monogram -5 based kits, 5 Hasegawa, 2 Hobbycraft, 2 Fujimi, and 7 Airfix/MPC/Heller kits

I cut down to around 10 or 11 total,,,with the Airfix moldings providing upgrades/spares for some of the others

I got a great deal on even more Scooters,,,,,,and had a dozen sent to me as a surprise gift from a friend,,,,,,so, I worked it out for my Squadron collection to just use a Scooter whenever it would fit for them

I have the Eagle Strike, Aeromaster and Microscale sheets, plus the kit decals from various releases,,,,,,

and after all of that,,,,,,,I still need to get certain "Skyraider only" units made up from the spares box

I am months behind, but, I am supposed to be turning over enough Skyraider references to get a small decal company to make a sheet up of all the units that no one ever made Skyraider decals for in 1/72,,,,,,so, there may be hope for VA-16, VF-54, VA-176's last cruise on Saratoga, etc

when he releases that,,,,,,I will be sure to post on here so that other Naval fans can help me buy out his stock

Oh, god, so many Skyraiders....

I want as many Thunderbolts in 1/48 and 1/32 in my stash.... (the "Jug" is my favourite plane of all time)

TarnShip

cool Clemens, there is going to be a world of difference between our two models

as for the AD-5N, if anyone ever wants to build any of those aircraft with "unusual pods" on them, I might be of some help in 1/72

part of my collection is showing the pods and things that hung under wings on different "weird" aircraft,,,,,,so, the radar, chaff, searchlight, flare, etc pods are on my list of things to make or find in other kits,,,,,I have enough kits to build 4 of the 5 AD-5/A-1E variants (I skipped the UA-1E utility plane)

I haven't solved finding "everything for anything",,,,but, I do have ways to make about 3/4 of that "interesting stuff"

Rex

I had a similar idea about building many of the different variants of the Skyraider and last year I invested a small fortune on buying lot's of 1/72 scale kits and aftermarket goodies ;

I sanded down some wooden dowel to make a couple of underwing pods , one for a Revell AD-5 to build as an AD-5N bird

A Fujimi A-1H kitbashed  to a AD-4N ,

Both those builds are going to be Korean War birds

There's also a resin Magna Models Skyraider Target Tug which I want to build as a AD-4W with another of those Falcon vacu-form belly radomes .

I made a list of different versions I can build ;

There's some decal swapping from different kits and aftermarket decals for other versions and since I made the list , I have picked up two more Hasegawa Skyraider kits . There's also a Hobbycraft French Skyraider that's partially built up on the shelf as well . So lot's to do , especially finishing off the Korean War Skyraiders .

I have made a lot of progress on the cobra.

Pics are up in about 5 minutes. As the left door will be closed, you can't see the damage to the left at all.

I'll hide the lower part of the instrument panel behind a folded map, so all the ugly spots will be covered up by something Wink

I think it turned out rather well. At least as long as you can`t see the damage, what will be the case.

take a piece of the kit sprue

cut or file the end off at the angle you need

attach a tiny piece of sanding film or sandpaper to the tip you have created

you now have a small "spot sander"

vary this idea to whatever you have on hand,,,,,,one of those Beauty Shop foam file sticks might be the ticket, you can cut those with scissors and stick or glue the piece onto a Cuticle push stick

Well, I think you are right at the learning part and everything else, but look at my Airacobra!

The floor is a mess!

cs.finescale.com/.../149627.aspx

I got the fuse sanded nice and smooth now and I'll post some more pics later today.

(and I think the spinning thing goes on the front of the plane, but I'm not sure about that)

Don't sell yourself short

Once you learn to glue any plastic model together, you really can do any other just as well

a "good seam is a good seam, and a bad one is a bad one", doesn't matter if it is a car, plane, tank, ship, monster or space ship

besides, if enough people post in-progress photos,,,a person could almost learn how to build just from being in a group build,,,,,,even us Auld Pharts see a new technique now and then when show and tell starts running

(pssssstttt, I am a jet modeler, mostly,,,,,,,,,that "spinny thing" goes towards the front, right?)

Yes, Rex there will be a lot of differences between our models:

Mine is a little bit bigger and most likely easier to build, as it isn't vacuformed

I still don't know what color scheme i will take. Either NMF or the classic blue/grey navy colors (like on most of the wildcats)

I am sure that yours will turn out way better than mine. I have only built 2 aircraft models before and now I have an airacobra on the bench...

I just called my hobby store...

...and ordered this little bird (as well as an engine for my corsair)Big Smile

Thanks for the inspiration for this little fella, Rex!

I always wanted to build a model of the F3F since I saw a picture of it, but I didn't know what plane it was Wink

Cheers, Clemens

I do a bit of everything, though I've always enjoyed 1/72 most. It's actually easier to detail in some respects, as long as the vision and hand-eye coordination hold out. And display space has always been an issue.Big Smile

Stop blaming him.

He's doing them to all of us.

It's not that hard to resist them

You have to use the force, my young padawan....

Clemens

LOL!  Yeah, they do grow on you.  I just can't seem to get the awesome detail into them like Bish and the others can.  Buy hey, I'm working on it!

I stick to 72nd scale due to space to put the finished kits.

Valid point!  I'm in the process of making display shelves on one whole wall (10X8) with glass shelves!  Working a glass deal now.

Seems like a lot of you guys are building in 1/72 scale...

I will stick to the bigger models though... I just like 1/48 and 1/32 planes more

Yes!  Someone else who likes the larger scales!  I'm doing all these 1/72 to just do them.  I got a bunch at an estate sale and have been doing these to get back into the groove of doing models.......that and BISH keeps doing that darn Jedi mind trick thing on me to do more of them! Big Smile

I have enough space for now, so no need to build smaller stuff Wink

I think I'll build the B-17G in 1/32 that HK-Models will produce somewhere in the near future... I love those big-ass silver birds...

Welcome, Greg!

I'll put you in the list.

I have Italeri's Prowler in 1:48 somewhere in my stash. Maybe I'll give the prowler a go too...

Not sure quite when I'll be able to start, but I'd like to jump in with a Hasegawa 1/72 EA-6B (just like the badge). Probably VAQ-137 from USS America, Desert Storm.
