i have spent too long trying to get these acceptable. The oez one isnt too bad but the pavla seat was such a rough casting no matter what i do it looks awful. time to call it a day and move on before i give up completly. 

the oez kit resin. the instructions say the pit is made 1.5mm small to fit in the fuse without having to alter it. its tiny and cramped but the quality is really rather nice

the seat is too big for the tub and needed lots of resin removing. There were supposed to be two seats in the kit - one smaller than the other, but they were both the same (big) size.

I've used the chrome Alclad for realistic chrome on cars, but never the aluminiums for an aircraft, so mine is a test bed too. I feel it's something I need to be good at. I think a lot is in the prep work, then lightly misted coats.

It's been quite a while since I built a Sabre, maybe the eighties or early nineties. Reminds me what a beautiful aircraft it was.

I know what you mean about the Academy Sabre's fit. Usually you get some exelelt models from then with no fit issues, and some less good ones.

On this Sabre the fit is OK-ish, just some sanding needed on the inlet area and I managed to fill the wingroot woth superglue only.....will have to see how it came out after priming.

It will be interesting to compare the 2 Acad Sabres when done. I will be using Alclads on mine to practice fefore I use it on more expensive "nice" models like the Tam 1/32 Mustprang!  LOL

Great to catch up in another GB, it's been a while.

I haven't done the Sabre (yet) but I recently used Academy kit decals on Frog P-47. I wasn't enamored with them, seemed a bit think and a bit prone to silvering, but if you're careful you can get away with it.

Here's my 1/72 Academy F-86F, and guess what, I forgot the weights. I guess I'll have to shove some lead down the intake and paint it to hide it. The fit isn't as perfect as I had hoped for for a bare etal aircraft, but it's OK. Just means a bit more prep. Mine will be USAF, with the kit decals.

That does help, thanx. Basically the whole fuselage is "one tone" except for the gun pannels and exhaust area. I also see it is not as "shiny" as one might have thought. I am sure a combination of Alcald Airframe and dark allu will work well for it.

Any one have experience with the decals from the 1/48 Hasagawa F-86f-40 (Korean scheem) perhaps? I am building this little Sabre as a practice run for that one : )

Hey guys, while I am trying to beat that 1/48 Academy A-36 into submition ready for alclad I thought I might do a (hopefuly) quick and simple oth the box 1/72 Academy F-86E for Korean Bare metal ....either SAAF or USAF.

Be sure to add enough lead!

Anyone have pix showing the different shades of allu on the Sabres perhaps? I know the central part of the top wingskin was slightly darker, the gun pannels were pollished and the pert around the jetpipe was also shiny.

Thanks for the help Spartan!  This will certainly come in handy.  That's the kind of "insider info" I'm always looking for.  As much research as I try to consume before each build, there's still always that one big thing that's supposedly given but fails to catch one's eye.

IP's done apart from some small levers on the Acad one which will have to wait till its installed. Both at least better than the plastic lumps in the kit. ' scuse the crap painting but im not brilliant at it.

still not sure if the oez ip will fit in the titchy space allotted. I first intended to do an OOB build of the OEZ thing but it looked so clunky i though i would have to spruce it up a bit. Then i realise as they borked the dimensions so bad, only whats in the box will fit anyway  ...oh well back to the first idea.

Another Diagram showing the application of putty/paint:

Blue areas: 2 layers of putty - no panel lines or rives visible, silver paint

Green areas: 1 layer of putty - no panel lines (maybe a wee bit of them) or rivets visible, silver paint

Yellow areas: just silver paint, no putty

It seems like I have to correct myself. The WHOLE wing surface was puttied over.

It looks like the fit of the wings to the fuselage is perfect or at least close to it. I'd suggest painting the wings separately and joining them with the fuselage when everything is painted.

The wings of most Mustangs were painted over with aluminum PAINT (no NMF here!!!), because of the panel lines: The panel lines were filled with putty at the factory to reduce drag. The wings were over afterwards. That means you are looking for a dull metallic finish without any panel lines on the forward half of the upper wing (just fill them with Mr Surfacer 500/1000). I'd suggest using paint from a Tamiya rattle can (I can tell you the TS-Number tomorrow). You want no panel lines on the wing area in front of the thickest part of the wing.

Got a few more things completed.  Nothing fancy going here yet.  Just sharing what is shaping up to be a pleasant build.

Here I cut off the tabs off the flaps that are received by the wings.  Drilled out some holes, glued some brass rod for some added strength (lessoned learned from my corsair), and refit the tabs a little higher to deploy them in the up position.

I did decide not to place all the hoses and such like I normally would.  It's getting covered and I'm in a bit of a rush to get this done.

I've closed the wheel bay up here as this will be set up in flight.  Honestly, the best fit I have ever seen here.  Normally this part takes a LOT of modification and headache.  But here...beautiful. =]

After some more thought...I'm considering painting the bottom of the wings with my gloss black coat, follow up with my Alclad selection I've arranged (leaving the part that mates to the bottom of the nose to clean up and paint later) then glue everything together and proceed to paint as I would normally.

Anybody see anything wrong with that???  Know a better way? 

Of course Spartan!  I almost solely paint with Tamiya's acrylic line of paints.  I find it lends itself to the way I paint.  These acrylics mix well together also.  I never use a color right out of the bottle save for maybe certain items that will have a few thin layers of paint anyhow.  Like rust for instance...I might start with Tamiya's Red Brown as a base color, but then I'll layer it with other colors that I'm mixing as well.  But for the most part, I mix all my colors based the subject I'm painting.  Something may be newer, older, dirtier...etc...I'll pick my color palette based on what I'm looking to convey.  =]

This Interior Green is actually a tad bit lighter (brighter) in color than what is seen here.  The Flat Black parts I've actually added to some Medium Blue [XF-18] in an effort to allow the color to look worn without dry brushing everything to hell.  The flat coat over it has somewhat diminished this look but it's still very evident when comparing it straight to Flat Black.

Hey everyone.  I didn't want to bomb you with dozens of photos to catch you up on my mustang build.  It's Tamiya's  P 51D...a familiar build to most no doubt.  I haven't gotten too far yet.  Mostly, I've just played a lot with the surface of this NMF build and built up the radiator and done up the cockpit.  Here's a peek:

I added the Academy kit to the list. The oez kit looks like it's going to be hard to asssemble, but I'm sure you can handle it!

ok . I hope this is ok but i want to build two at the same time. I'm not trying to be clever of anything , its just that the kopro/oez kit is awful and as I have an Academy mig 21 pf waiting to be built i thought it would be fun to do them both to show just how bad the oez one is. I also have accumulated a selection of add ons and if i build them both i can decide which to fit to which for best effect.

I love those locating pins for tail fin! They are almost as good as Tamiya's efforts!

Thought this would be a nice change. Just a quick oob build without cutting the kit up to fit resin. Didnt think I would have to cut the kit up just to get it to fit as it is.

Who needs location tabs. The tail fin goes here....somewhere.

I was going to do a straight OOB but some of the stuff is a bit bad. I had these loitering about (may not use the brakes tho and save them for future use) I dont even know if the burner will fit this kit either. and have a pitot and resin tanks on order. I have other bits like wheel wells but think ill stick to this as its a special.

It is an Aeromaster rebox of an OEZ MiG 21 mf 1/48 scale. It is a multimedia kit and along with the original plastic comes some pe and resin too. It has a decal set for a special version as can be seen on the box art which i think i will use. As its a special i reckon it will be ok to do an "airshow" clean finish.  as its such an unusual kit i will try to do it as oob as i can get away with. I may replace the burner tho as its awful o_O and perhaps replace the fuel tanks with resin ones as they are clunky too. Haven't decided if ill foil it but its a definite possibility as it suits these old Russian tin cans. Ill use a Eduard stencil set too as the decal sheet is VERY sparse and it will look boring otherwise.

MAy I ask you what's the exact data of that kit (plane, manufacturer, scale)?
