I was at my LHS today (yes, again!) and recieved my Thunderbolt!!!

Here are some pics of it:

The kit itself (that thing is bloody damn huge!):

Barracuda Wheels (massive improvement over the kit parts):

HGW seatbelts:

 

Aires gear bays (again a big improvement):

Quickboost engine (much better than Hasegawa's solution):

And now to the Big-Ed stuff:

Cockpit set (with a PE-seat):

So as you can see, I have plenty of nice stuff for this build

In case you wonder what that "303" everywhere is about, that is my customer number at my LHS.

Clemens, I can't quite put my finger on it but, it seems you are missing something 

Just kidding, that is going to be one heck of a build!

I am going to pay close attention to this, as I have a P47D in my stash. Hopefully, I'll get some pointers from you, since you are the Thunderbolt expert!

PS...are the add-ons you purchased, just for that particular kit? I like them.

I'm a bit nervous about this, as I have NEVER done a NMF, on a model.  

I bought a kit a while ago, that I wanted to try my hand on this type of finish. So, here we go. I hope I don't mess up. Nothing like starting with an easy kit   Go big or go home...well, 1/72 big anyway.

I'll be doing Minicraft's 1/72 B-24J Liberator. The Dragon & his Tail:

OK, so the other day I shot the 105 with MM non-buffing aluminum but for some reason I didn't like the look of it.

I hope I didn't jump the gun but this morning I re-shot it with Testors silver enamel.  

SchattenSpartan  I will jump in with the 1/48 Revell B-29 Superfortress. They say the 3rd time is a charm maybe I will get it done this time.

My personal favorite is the one with the Thunderbolt, but you can pick the one you like best!

I've never done a group build before but I have and Airifx F-86F from their Airfix Club double box I have been itching to get my hands on, assuming I can still sign up. 1/72 scale.

Badges are finished BTW. I'll upload them later today.

Clemens  - The only research material I ever use is the internet. I usually get some pretty good pictures on Google images.

Mine is 1/48 scale by Tamiya

Can anyone recommend me some reference material for the P-47? I don't have any shop nearby that carries such books, so need to order them online and can't have a look at them before I do so.

I used the exactly same kit you will build, completely OOB.

I just ordered a second one yesterday which I'll build with the correct cockpit and cowl color.

What Markings are you going for?

I like "Kokomo" a lot myself. That was the first plane model I built. I used the wrong green for it (something similar to the artwork on the sode of the box). I have to get me another one of those and do it right.

I'll be making the nose art of my own. It's not any plane that actually flew in WW2. As for the squadron markings, I haven't decided on that yet

Kokomo looks nice too. Who made your kit? But mine will have the flat black on the upper surfaces, and no checkerbaord.

I started back up on the 105 and found some more fit problems so I'll be filling again on this one.

Sounds interesting, Ken! Master makes some nice barrels. I ordered some for my Eduard FW 190 that I have on the bench atm. When using the kit parts, you have to glue the barrels in before joining the wing halves (they go through the wheel bays). Master made them out of 2 parts so you can put them in after glueing the wings together!

I used them in my Revell Razorback Jug and I glued the wings together before i decided to get them. I had to pull the wings apart. All I'm getting (and got before) was the barrels

Confirming my 1/72 Hasegawa F-105B from the part IV GB.  It will have 108th TFW 141st TFS NJANG markings.

I have some jugs to build later.

Heck, I might be up for this.  I can't commit just yet but I do have a 1/48 Hasegawa P-51D in the stash.  But I have about 6 models on the bench that I need to finish first (2 are just about done).

I'll definitely be watching and lurking in here until I can commit, though.
