jim a question, was going to email but want to get it out for all in the build. the p38 i have started is for the dday build also. the end date on that build is aug 6. instead of posting the images in the forum i am planning to post the url to the page that it is on. is that cool with you? it bends your rule a bit and i apologize for that.

Since this is the NMF group build. let me ask this question here. Do you buff or leave it as is?

The MIG-19 in my sig pic is unbuffed with the exception of a few panels. I guess you would only buff if the aircraft was new. But then again, unless it was seriously neglected, wouldn't it be pretty shiny anyway?

Just trying to decide how I want to do this F-89. I have also been experimenting with adding black to the SNJ to spray indivdual panels.

Finally finished foiling the Connie. As it is my first model in over 35 years, and my first foiling job, it won't bear the scrutiny of some of the others here, but jeez it sure does gleam and glow and look just fabulous. Now all I have to do is getmy fingerprint oils off the surface so I can properly apply the decals. I know next time to use latex gloves to prevent soiling the surface, but for now, what is the preferred way to clean foil prior to decaling? Thanks.

Guys, I'm back on the group build. I've started back on my F-89 and I have a little lesson for you guys.

If you're using SNJ, make sure you cover the model well. I accidently got one section of the model a bit light on a few passes and, when I masked over that area, it pulled the SNJ up. Opps! Oh well. We live an learn.

AARRRRRRRGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

A drop of CA glue on my wing!!!!. Angry [:(!] My Arii Ki-44 got a 1/4" drop and I'm trying to gently sand it off and I'll have to replace the recessed rivets! I don't know If I can effectively replucate this good enough for a NMF. OR I'll just use a kit I just purchased of Ebay and save this one project with a different paint scheme.

Been working alot on the mustang to catch up hehe. Almost ready for painting which with any luck will start tommorrow. I was hoping to try Alclad2 but looks like it will be SNJ and MM non buffing metalizer.

Well, the alclad went on ok on Friday night, or kinda ok. There were flaws in the paint job underneath that gave a rough, flat appearance in places, so it didn't work quite as well as it should have.
I'm going to use Alclad2 duraluminium on these areas, and I think some of them might be covered with decals. And weathering.
And strategic lighting. Ah well, it was the first time..... and were it looks good, it REALLY looks good.

Am taking a break from this GB to begin a Spitifre for the D-Day GB on the armour forum and this is interesting as I'll be making ML407 which is a "before" version of the Tr.IX i have done for THIS group build. When It's finished, I'll post pics of te two together.
It's interesting in that with these two models, you get a look at a kinda condensed history of one machine.

Am thinking of doing a Lysander next as the IAC had one in all-over silver as it acted as a target-tug apres the war.

Okay! I've just finished the F-86F Sabre in Philippine Air Force markings, and i can now claim that it is (quite litterally) a work of blood, sweat and tears.... Sweat is easy enough to come by but as i was moving the model, my arm snagged on my pinvise with the fine needle tip attached and it fell on my foot... OWW!!! Shock [:O] This is where the blood and tears kick in... As I am typing this i'm chanting "ignore the pain..." Did i say "Oww!!!" already?? Dead [xx(]

What's the rule on posting pics, Jim? Do we post pics, or links, or save the model 'til the deadline? Can I post them outside this thread? Big Smile [:D]

On to the B-17!! Smile [:)]

(Ignore the pain, ignore the pain, ignore the pain, ignore the pain.......)

Get a bag of disposable plastic gloves for handling food from a pharmacy.
Easy to use and very cheap.

Howdy Fellas,

I'm a wee bit new here....but I would love to join in on your NMF festivities if I may??

I unfortunately (for me) don't have the time to read thru all 14 pages of posts regarding this Group Build (with something called "stickey's" apparently), but if you don't mind too much, I would like you to consider one of my entries in your noble cause........?

Tread.

(edit).....If I do HALF as good a job on my entry as some of you have.......well, I'll be ecstatic!! :-)

The Enola Gay markings are a conglomeration of painted markings for the Circle-R and the large 82 on the aft fuselage section. The Stars and bars are from the current Aeromaster sheet. The stencils, short of the small 82 on the nose and the nose gear door smoking warning are from the current re-release of Cream-of-the-Crop and Enola Gay, the small 82 on the nose and the No smoking within 100 ft. are printed on an inkjet printer using Bare-Metal Foil's decal printing paper. The stencils fonts for the 82 and smoking warning are available as share ware on the web, Enola Gay is from a scan of the original Monogram decals from their '77 release.

The idea behind the GB is to not show off your finiished models until the end of the GB on Halloween. Nice P*38 and B-29 but the rest of you please be patient and wait. Where did you get the Enola Gay markings? I still can't find any.

Smile [:)] Thanks 9x19mm, It was a fun project. It is the current re-release of the B-29 kit with painted insignia for the Circle R and the big 82 on the aft end of the fuse. The stars and bars are from the currently available Aeromaster sheet and the rest are home-made on an ink-jet printer or used from the kit supplied ones. The pictures wash the panel shades and textures a bit, but it still catches the eye pretty well. The interior work is really only visable by the pen-light police, but it's all in there. SnJ was the paint and then each panel was taped off and polished in different directions and level of sheen. One trick for the SnJ and probably could be done with Alclad too is to polish in the smallest circle you can make with your hand. This leaves a mottled look of burnished and weathered aluminum panels very nicely.

Lovely finishes on the models guys!
Will be attempting my first Alclad2 finish tonight or Friday, so wish me luck. This is going on the Tamiya 1/48 F-84G. The Tr.IX Irish Air Corps Spitfire is finished, but I used Tamiya gloss Alumimiun finish for that one.
Will get pics when the F-84G is finished. Might do a Lightening too...hmmmm.

Liam
actually, the Iirsh Air Corps had a Lysander done up in a silver paint finish. Would this qualify for hte build?

I love the B-17, but don't give up on the B-18 just yet, Joe! I've been looking forward to that one for some time! Maybe if you pray to St. Anthony, patron saint of lost things it'll turn up! LOL! Big Smile [:D]

Very nice, Obiwan.

Fightinjoe:
Just take your time with the foil. I have found (after someone elsse suggested it) that using light coats of spray mount is a quick and relatively painless way of applying household foil.
Just be patient.

V Nice indeed,Obiwan. I'll have to learn airbruish and Alclad for next time...

Meanwhile, I am about 90% done with foiling the Constellation, and I have a newbie question: what would be the best way to get fingerprint oils off the foil surface? I need to clean the fuselage - thanks!
