AlanF the Scout looks great - Mike the British aircraft is coming along - 232 RAD 8 - next step was to apply a filter to the German Grey finish - Blue Filter for Panzer Grey - brush it straight from the bottle, however I went back over with thinner to vary the finish. Use AK Interactive 071 an enamel base paint. Photos after it dried

The next step is to apply the Heavy Chipping (AK) acrylic paint - is a fluid to create big chip surfaces and scratches in a scale. Apply using a brush. Natural I will be applying an acrylic paint over it. Reviewing what I have on hand - either will use AK Interactive RAL8000 Gelbbraun (AK 702) or Vallejo Acrylic Surface Primer RAL 8000 German Green Brown using an airbrush. Reviewing B/W photos and reference books with color plates it seems a bit dark. After applying it I will go back over with lighter color to get a faded look. Armor86

Looking good Dan. So does the chipping fluid only work with an acrylic paint on top of it.

Dan, that Scout Car turned out real nice.  

It's very different seeing an American scheme in three colours.

Hi all -- quick update. My Plastruct order has arrived, so I can get on with the conversions to the Pz. IV -- expressly the hex rod to serve as bolt heads on the extra armour and missing details inside the fenders. Also, I'm not far off done with the masking for the final camo colour on the Spit, that might be done tomorrow. If so. I'll press on and apply the last shade, then it should be downhill to the finish, more or less.

Dan: The armoured car is coming along great, looking forward to seeing her with the sand camo on and chipped up.

Bish: If I may 'chip-in' here (sorry) I've only used the fluid on acrylic paint, I'm not sure it would work for enamels or other types or not. You can get pretty much the same results with hairspray, though the fluid is more concentrated and since you're spraying it with an airbrush easier to do a controlled spray. You could always take a scrap model, hit it with two-three runs of hair spray, then spray it with the paint of your choice, and then chip it off with an old toothbrush. Anyway that's how I experimented with it, fairly cheap way to see what works and what doesn't.

DAK 1941 Sand Camo - Put two coats of Heavy Chipping - use a Tamiya mix of XF-60, XF-49, and XF-2. Lighten the mix some to highlight surface panels. Let it set overnight before chipping. Armor86

Jibber - No it's not AFV - older Tamiya kit - DAK version - the kit comes together easy just needs some up dating ... the under side is somewhat lacking when compared to the AFV ...  spent a hour and half chipping and scratching it up ... post photos Friday night. Armor86

you should check out the suspension system on the revellgermany bundeswehr FUCHS 6x6. and it isn't as intricate as any truck, military or commercial. half the build on the UNIMOG 4x4 is suspension system. and my BEDFORD isn't much different. BTW I NEED SOME SUGGESTIONS on the best wat to do a cargo bed canvas top or camo net. i have the ribs.

Some progress on the Spit: since I last posted, I've kept plugging away, first the extensive masking to define the camouflage pattern:

I reused some pieces of tape from the recent Bf 109 project, plus new stuff. I corrected some curves with rubber solution, then applied the last shade, a 1:1 mix of XF-52 Flat Earth and XF-49 Khaki, which I found visually preferable to other mixes I researched online. Then the masking all came off, and the three shades were used to do some minor touch-ups, and an oilpaint filtre was used to create the common oil streaking on the underside and staining behind hinges and shell ports. The first clear coat went on, followed by the Flory wash (Dark Dirt overall):

Next up will be another coat of clear to seal the panel wash, followed by decals tomorrow, then they get sealed and it's downhill to the finish, with final assembly and detail painting.

I never used AK products before but I see a lot of people getting great results with them, so I decided to give them a try on my Tiger and Pz IV.

BEDFORD WIP pics. broke a side mirror sanding and couldn't find it in the carpet. wrote it off and 2 hours later i sat down to work on it and it was on the work table so i CYAed together.. added decals, water cans, spare tire, chains, doors. not sure if i like the "straps" for the spare tire and may replace them with rope. (COMMENTS WELCOME) will have winshield folded down and wrapped in a tarp and cab top rolled and syuffed behind the frame. i know what i want to do with the canves for the back but not sure if i can pull it off in which case it will be rolled and attached to the left side. the weathering is oil washes except for a little bit of powder for rust beacuse i was too lazy to mix some "rust oils"

this is the smallest base unless i jyst do a straight shot with some grouns all my towed guns. the soon to be new IPMS rules on bases in non vingette/diorama categories means not doing a fancy base or doing one with a story and possibly figures.

oh it's not done yet. i still have windshield, mirrors, and tarps and/or camp net to put on. and i haven't decided if i am putting it on a nondsecript sand base or tey to tell a story and even add some figures.

taking a break and working onJGSDF SPAA tracks. what joy. it's why i do wheels ans may have gotten the nickname WHEELS at my denver club.
