Eventually, everyone must come to the True Scale.  It is known.

Unfortunately, hasegawa have not carried on their line of B-24's. They have the same separate nose section which should allow different versions, but have only done D's and J's. fortunately, I found it pretty easy to back date a J to an H.

Ken is working in 48th, not sure how he might feel about coming down to the true scale Wink

In 1/72, Academy and/or Minicraft did release a B-24H; it's what I'm still working on for the "Longest Day" group build.  It was originally released as a NMF plane,

then re-released four more times, with four of the "Zodiac" squadron markings.  The "Zodiac" boxings each included an art print of the box-cover painting.

I don't know how easy it would be to come by these days.  Mine are at least fifteen years old--which is probably why the decals went bad.

Academy also released the B-24 over the years in -D,

J,

and M versions,

They included specific parts for each version in the appropriate box.  Last time I looked, Eduard seemed to have acquired at least some of the molds.  Again, these were all 1/72 not 1/48.

Now, I really should get back to "Aries," so I can move on to USS North Carolina.

How do you mean the 17G is to new, that should work for 44. There were 24D's around in 44 as well, mainly lead ships, but that just depends on getting the right markings.

Thanks Bish, I see the difference. It figures, I got a b 17 too new (a G ) and a b 24 too old ( a D ).

okay, on to plan B. 1st - research more on each version as to what I want to build.

I don't care for the decals included with the 24, hmmm If my memory serves me correct, (oh yea right) (said with very heavy sarcasm LOL) I was told another uncle flew in a 24.

He got tagged with the nickname "Tabby because he died once as a kid and was brought back to life. Then died in his B-24 and was brought back to life.

Ken, quite a lot. The H has the powered front turret. But pics explain it best.

D

H

I don't know if there are any H's in 48th. There ain't in 72nd, I have converted a J to an H, that's a pretty easy job, and I have 2 more J's to backdate, including Stewarts Male Call.

Hi Everyone,

I just got the B-24 for my 1944 GB. I was looking things over and noticed that the kit is "D" model and according to "fubar.com/.../photo-2499659-0-3969883235", Jimmy Stewarts plane was an "H"  So, How much differance was/is there between to two?

Cody, welcome aboard, as I think I said before, look forward to seeing this one, been considering getting this kit for a few years.

I have just added and temporary roster and completed builds to my opening post in the absence of SS. If anyone is missing, or if there are any completed builds not on the front page, please let me know and I will add them.

Thanks all.

Hey There Cody, Glad to see you join us here. Very cool to see you bring your FW 190 over. Unfortunate that you were unable to complete it for the Butcher Bird GB. Looking forward to your progress.

Looks like excellent work everybody!

May I sign up with this:  FW190 1/72 By Revell Germany?   I was going to try to squeeze it in as a 2nd entry to the Butcher Bird GB but got busy and ran out of time.  Thank you.

Managed to button up the fuselage. Rather different on this Eduard kit is the absence of locator pins on the fuselage. Once installed, the cockpit tub, oil cooler vent and tail wheel assembly fill this function. Unfortunately, after careful test fitting and gluing, the fuselage halves had slipped just a titch. This created a small ridge that I have to putty and sand.Crying. I'm making good progress there. Here's a pic of where I'm at so far.

Great groundwork Wayne!

I finally ordered and received the figures for my LCVP dio, hopefully I'll get the chance to put it together this summer after school gets out.  I'll be using 10-12 figures from Dragon and Masterbox sets.

Holy Smokes Wayne, That is fantastic. Not only is your camo choice you followed that up with some outstanding weathering. Don't short yourself concerning the base as it appears to be rather spectacular to me. I can only dream to achieve such effects at this time. Thank You for sharing that gorgeous build with us Wayne.

this is done. the base is not as fancy as i would like so as to keep it in armor soft skin and not vignette.

JOE RIX, SILENTBOB33 thanks.

first picks of base. this is a very simple base to keep the build in soft skin category and not vignettes or dioramas. raised a little bit of non road with blue modeling clay. slop painted all the clay with cheap artist acrylics. mixed liquidtex and dirt and laid down the road. took scrap PZ-IV and made all sorts of track marks and knocked down the bumps a bit. tire didn't sit "in" the dirt enough so i marked and chiseled gouges where they went and "filled in" a bit with really flattened modeling clay.

airbrused enite base with MMA dirt. added some liquiidtex over the clay and repainted. painted white glue and added grass. (my dirty white socks in the bottom of the picture)

here is a closeup. the camera will see more than the eye and the slightly shinier places are where the tires will be. will let that dry and mist with dust.. adding some tall grass may push it into vignette. IPMS will be adjusting there new base rules for a while and may have to expand the vignettes categories to cover the overflow from planes and armor.

Wayne: not sure what 88 spaa you're talking about, but the GRILLE was only armed with the 15cm sIG.

RIGHT YOU ARE. i know about that one and every time i typed in the spaa i said to myself "self they must have used the name for 2 different guns." maybe i'll finally get it out of my head.

i talked with bish and i am joining with the 1/35 TAMIYA GERMAN 4X6 KRUPP PROTZE towing  a 37mm FLAK 37. also want to do the 88mm FLSL 41 PZ.SFL,IVC spaa this year. i have been working on the truck in the duckhunters GB so it's coming along. wheel attachment was annoying, sepecially the front ones. cracked a seam putting the front end onto the frame so has to repair that today. broke the right hand mirror but who wants shiny things with JABOs all over the place. here are the finished construction pics. airbrush TAMIYA dark yellow and brush painted 2 slightly different schemes. got the initial pin wash and raw umber oil filter on it. going to highlight some areas with black pin wash over that and gray wash for the wood areas.

Thank You very much Allen and Bish.

I don't know about a micron microscope Allen, but a magnifying glass on an articulating arm, an optivisor and some 2.00 power reading glasses are a must. Of course when I need to use all 3 at the same time it's a bit like a micron microscope.
