Thanks Duster... Thats what I was thinking... Again, I'm not the greatest with tissue but have learned some tricks over the years, and I sure would like to give it a shot! I've been pretty preoccupied over at the "Butcher Bird" Fw190 GB most of last year (my favorite bird) and am going to expand my horrizon a bit this year! I've had a ball building several of the Wurger, and will do another before the end of the build, and have met some incredible builders there! Photos, You bet! cant forget the photos!

Hey Mike...

You know... I didnt see any thing about this in the rules, but I have two kits I was given several years ago as gifts, A Spad VIII and a Fokker DVII in what I would consider to be roughly 1/32nd scale. What I'm a bit hestant about is that both are balsa and tissue model kits. They are models, and IMO more in line with how the actual air craft were made, but is it acceptable for this GB? If not, I could look around for a styrene kit, and yes the WingNut kits are Sweet! Very nice and well engineered kits. I'm not the best with balsa, but have made some advances (skill wise) after buying and practicing some tips in a book I found on the subject. Not that I'm into the balsa that big, but would like to try to improve my over all skills as a well rounded modeler! (grin).

That was my thoughts as per now.

Doug

PS... Crowe was hilarious!!!

WOW that is really old school!

I don't remember any where it says plastic models only. so I hope you get a chance to work these out and  don't forget to post pictures....This we gotta see

One of my faves too Doug -- always good for a laugh! Yes  Got a few DVD's of 'em kicking around, and I'll pop one into the player every time I head out to the workroom.

....speaking of which, you got any ideas as to what your entry for the build is going to be?  The Wingnut kits are sweet!

GMorrison

EZ Line is a good option in 1/72.

Guess you should be right proud of that job.  She's a beauty

It is a mind boggler from here, can't imagine how it was to build.

Welcome to the build Doug!  It's been a bit quiet in here the last few days, but I'm sure Dave will be along to add you to the list.

Dave, rigging a DH.2 is a scary endeavor in any scale! Only aircraft scarier would probably be the Fe.2b.

Bish, the Albatros was one of the most colorful birds to fly in WWI, and your choice is a good one. Looking forward to seeing that one built. Also, received my Feb. issue of FSM - you were right, it was definitely worth the wait. Wink

Bish, That's a nice scheme on the Albatros. I might have to pick up the same kit, I like any aircraft that has a dragon on it.

I know what you guys mean on the 1/72 rigging. I have the Eduard DH-2 and I'm scared to build it. Not only is it a really fragile model it has a lot of rigging for such a small plane.

I survived the 1/72 Fokker Eiv (which is on the front page) and have lots of other I need to do while I can still sorta see.  My two words of advice---BUILD IT!!!!!

I had missed that, but then I hardly ever go to the front page, just straight to the forum. Its good they were able to get the others builds on there.

Some of them...Sad

So I was buying some resin stuff for another GB and I noticed that Freight Dog sells lozenge decals.

O, its not that bad, honestly. Whistling Rigging that 0/400 was a breeze. lining the wings up, now thats another matter. That's where being an octopus would help.

Yes you miss it when you don't go to the home page.

Ya I really liked that kit,  it made me go by about 4 other Eduard WWI kits for the stash.  I'm going to have to stack 2 10x hood magnifiers togetherDead for the 1/72 scale.  I will for sure be using the third hand alligator clip stand when I rig it.

And hopefully it won't want to go flying out of my hands like the D III did when I was trying to attach the top wing.Censored Crying

That D.III is a great build, I can't wait to see what you do for this one. If we both end up doing the Eduard kit, we can compare notes and go blind together.Wink

Bish

Nice collection of badges there, nice to have badges to fit the builds.

I think I have decided what I am going to build. Remember I said I wanted something with no or minimal rigging. Well, forget I said that.

Don't put it down yet David. I am going to order it with my next order to Hannants in a couple of weeks, so these still time to change my mind. But I do rather like the scheme on this.

Bish,

This is too funny,   I had the same kit in my hands Tuesday night at my LHS,  I was standing there trying to decide if I want to torture  myself with 1/72 scale rigging.  I built the 1/48 albatros DIII for the WWI GB last year,  and that was my very first time rigging.   Now I'll probably have to pick this one up next week when I work at my LHS.Surprise I too was attracted by the scheme.   I have been trying to get those decals in 1/48,  and at the moment i can't remember if i found them or not.

Thanks GMorrison! Also forgot to put in my previous post that Hansa looks great!

Steve, Well if you build a WNW Gotha I'd have no excuse not to build one of my Roden Gotha's! The WNW kit looks like it would be a really impressive model once built. Where not starting just yet.

If you have a source for guns that would really help.

This guy is an eBay seller and has really good gun casts in 1/72

Steve,

Great badge and thanks for doing them.

Dave,

Are we starting now?  I thought it was going to start in July?  This is my first group build so if it seems that I am dazed and confused it is because that is my "normal" state.

GM,

That is one sweet ride.  Are there anymore pictures hiding out there?  If this build is going to be four years, I just might try my hand on the WIngNut Wings' Gotha.

GMorrison, First off thanks for the offer on helping with the lozenge. I've found a pretty good decal sheet on ebay that should work for my kit. If you have a source for guns that would really help. The Airfix kit' is really basic and its going to take a lot of work.

Steve, Thanks for changing the badge it looks a lot better now. Got the page updated.

Steve - The Naval badge look great...well done!

Ernie

We call them "Castles of Steel".

Nicely done. Could the type maybe not be pink?

Well it's really Fuchsia and was picked to be visible from the background.  But I take your point, Castles of Steel and Fuchsia don't seem to "play well" together.

So have a compromise for you:  To maintain readability and avoid causing old salts  to cringe ,

how about    ?

Now ,if you can convince  Dave to change/add to the accepted badges you're in... I'm sooo busy paintin' my model

David- I can help look, but there's some good sources for lozenge decals on line. There's no way I could paint those in 1/72. I used the ones that came with my 1/72 Hansa Brandenburg W29. They were slightly the wrong color but an over spray of thinned down light grey really helped. I also have a great source for guns, I'll post Ivan's contact.

Mike, You're right I'm going to be really busy!

Steve, Thanks and I salute you also!

Dale, Got you updated. Can't wait to see that kit built up. And happy late birthday.

GMorrison, I didn't even notice the ship badge being pink, till you pointed it out. Steve could you change it by chance?

I picked my first build out today. The 1/72 Airfix Hannover CL.III not a lot of parts to the kit. But painting the lozenge is going to be a pain.
