Ju 87 Stuka GB

My apologies to everyone here for the lack of progress pics.  I thought I was posting them, but I wasn't.  Lots of life stuff going on and I can't remember my name half the time.  So here are some pics of the Airfix Stuka.

She is going together quite nicely and only a few minor seam issues.  Hope to do more on her tonight and this weekend.  Should be getting a canopy mask from SprueBrothers tomorrow!  My first canopy mask!  Thanks for looking and sorry for the delay.

OK, thanks, Bish.  I've got plenty of 02.

Check, there has been some debate about early war German pits with some evidence of darker colours used earlier than many think. But yes, you can't go wrong with 02 for a B Stuka.

Nice looking paintwork, 68.  Very effective.  

Getting ready to paint the cockpit.  Am I right in assuming that Stukas had an 02 painted crew interior, at least early in the war (1940-ish)?

Thanks, 68GT.  Bought it from Hannants in the UK.  Never did see them offered on this side of the ocean.

Started some work on the fuselage.  I glued on the horizontal stabilizers from the inside, and set them to the proper (I hope) angle with a protractor.  Also sanded the inside.

After I took the photo and lowered the camera, I noticed the interested party on the upper left.

When I catch her in time, she gets banished from the work area.

As I get back to building I realized I only have two mask sets so I'll work on completing two. Thats at least if the other two mask sets don't show up in time. Model Master enamel RLM70

Ye, i have noticed that Scott, and the Airscale IP seems to have gone. It was on Hannants last week but now its not there, though they have the two generic sets. I have seen some Montex mask sets which include masks for markings as well as the canopy. I am thinking of getting one of those for a yellow nosed stuka.

Bish...that Airfix kit is a fun build, though there's few AM items for it, the sheer size of it does makes it easy to add your own details to it.

I'm still having some issues trying to download update pics otherwise I would have been posting them now. I have painted the RLM 71 on her and may finish up the upper fuselage Tues or Weds.  Boy there's a lot of surface area to cover. Looks like I'm going have to mail order the RLM 65 since the LHS here is out of it. Also need to mask off the canopy and get that painted too, will be the first time I ever used a AM mask set.  I'm slowly drawing to and end here.

Hello, everyone!

Bish has graciously consented to allow me to enroll in the GB at this (late) date.  I've been mightily impressed by the quality of work and the creativity you all have been accomplishing.

I had a 1/72 Stuka sourced from Revell's 70th Anniversary Battle of Britain offering.

All the kits are pretty old.  They date, I think, to the mid- to late-1960's.  I've built the Spitfire and Hurricane, and they certainly show their age.  The Hurricane was OK, but not up to the standards of even Airfix's elderly kit.  The Spitfire was plain awful.  I hope the Stuka will be better.

Here are the parts, still safely tucked into their bag.

Got a start on the Stuka yesterday, but I do need to finish up the 1944 GB before I can devote more time to Stuka-ing.

Mine are spread all over the dinning room/model room at the moment. I was hoping to get a man cave built in the garden that was big enough to display everything as well as my own build space, but things haven't work out, best laid plans of mice and men and all that.

I guess these things are sent to test us.

I know what you mean -- I'll have to source a new display case for this coming year, I'm at capacity right now, and it'll take me about two years to fill the next...

That's my thinking as well Mike. As it stands I have run out of space for my 72nd builds let alone anything bigger.

Congratulations, Bish! I hope one day to build some kits this big myself, but it'll be a long time coming -- it's all about storage. But that doesn't mean I can 't collect them in the meantime! I hope you find somewhere to display it and can rip into it before too long!

Since seeing Shooters Airfix Stuka, I have had it in mind that I should get one of these. I have overlooked it before because of its age but it really does look a sweet kit. Well, 2 weeks ago was my birthday, and of course I got some money. And then I just happened to see the kit on E-bay going for £20 less than the normal price.

Has to be fate doesn't it. The modelling gods could not have been any clearer.

 Boy this thing does look nice and certainly looks better than me after 40 years. Now, where to put the damn thing. Anyone have any tips on encouraging the kids to move out sooner.

Thanks Mustang and Clemens! It's great that so many talented builders appreciate this project, I was a bit ambivalent about the final product -- maybe I'm my own worst critic! It was certainly a tougher build than say the Hobby Boss Fw 190 D-9 I did earlier in the year, indeed it's been a year of challenges in one way or another. Am currently knocking out a 1:72 Mustang (the Airfix new-tool, sweet kit), and am chasing a completion a week to the end of the year, though I don't think I'm going to manage that as I've got some work lined up unexpectedly. Two GB commitments left to see to, one overtime for ages...

I can't believe I managed to miss the completion of your Stuka, Mike! She's a real beauty! The subtle weathering (especially on the lower surfaces) looks great and that blue spinner tip really makes her stand out!

Mike this Stuka is Beautiful!!! Sharp build with excellent painting!

If you don't mind, I have set it as desktop wallpaper for a few days, in order to get inspiration to complete mine (like a modelling stimulant  ).

As soon as yesterday's gloss varnish dries up and decals are in place, I will join you in the Cretan Campaign.

I did some on line review parts comparison and looks like my ROG is a rebox of the Hasegawa R-2 Desert Snake limited edition version less the fuel tanks and decals. The parts arrangement in the trees are identical to the one I have. So the Hasegawa Ju 87B-2 masks should fit mine.
