I picked up the Aires cockpit for my Stuka today and it looks soo awesome! I'll post some pics of it later tonight

If its anything like the 72nd one, I know its going to be good. That was a real treat for the eyes. I have the 32nd one added to my next Hannants order, but that won't be until March.

This looks like a good place to do my first GB.  I have a 1/48 Monogram Ju87D that I bought at a model show with the intention of painting it up like the night cam Stuka that was featured in FSM a couple of years ago.  This looks like the perfect reason to get it out and do it!

That does look nice. I like the 81Z, I already have metal barrels, but I think I could keep those for something else.

Whats with the 2 IP's, they give you a spare.

I was thinking about replacing the barrels with a set from Master, but I'm really hesitant regarding that decision now. The resin barrels look very nice and only need to be straightened out. I think they threw one of the IPs in as a replacement in case you brake one. They are really thin in places. Both IPs look exactly the same, but one is a bit more warped than the other. A bit of hot water should solve that "problem" with ease though

My favorite resin pieces in the entire set are the 2 radios though. They are just so incredibly well detailed...

I have the master barrels, I will see how they compare when I get mine. Ye, those radio's do look nice, it does look very similar to the 72nd one, apart from a few extra touches like the seat cushion. As I already have the Eduard set, I will probably mix the two.

One thing I don't like about this Aires set are the ammo belts. They are basically just PE strips instead of belts. I don't htnk they are going to be very visible though, so I'll decide if I have to get me replacements once everything else is painted and assembled.

I admit that I'm not a huge Stuka buff (I'm way more fascinated by the P-47 ), so some, if not most of my questions are going to be really dumb ones. Here's the first one: I absolutely hate working with PE belts (although the ones supplied with the resin pit don't look half bad), so I'm looking for fabric replacements. Does the Stuka simply use 2 sets of normal Luftwaffe belts (like 190s and 109s) or are they different? I'd just get me one of HGWs seatbelt sets if they are the same.

There is a set specifically for the 87D/G, I plan on getting that as well as PE belts can be a pain.

Don't forget that a Stuka has 2 seats, so a normal set would not work, there is a strap that goes behind the gunner rather than a seat back. The strap is included in the HGW set from the looks of it.

PE ammo belts don't work in 72nd scale, I can't imagine they would come even close in 32nd. I am surprised they are not in resin.

Thanks for that link! I thought a set of HGW belts would be enough because they give you enough belts for 2 seats

I have never used a set before, though I do have one for my 190D. I thought there looked like 2 sets in there.

Part 8 looks like the back strap for the rear gunner, goes from one side of the cockpit wall to the other. I guess theres a PE one in the Aires set.

Thanks for the welcome!  I did some looking around after seeing your AM parts, and saw that there's a PE set on sale for $4...very tempting but I've never used PE before.  I recently used a resin cockpit on an A-10 I built for my brother.  Unfortunately, the only resin cockpit I can find for a 1/48 Stuka is for the Hasegawa or Italeri kit, and it will probably run me $25.  My biggest question at this point is how much of a pain would it be to try and make a Hasegawa resin cockpit fit into the Monogram kit?

I'm not sure how hard that would be silent bob, but you found a resin pit for the Italeri Stuka? Do you have a link? I haven't seen one released yet, so I was planning on making the Aires set for the Hasegawa fit into my Italeri kit.

Nathan, I could only find Aires sets for the Hase kit.

Bob, generally speaking, most AM sets will fit kits of other brands with some modification. Resin cockpits are probably the easiest as they usually don't supplement the kit parts but completely replace them.

I take it both you guys are looking at Aires set 4119.

Sorry Nathan, the Italeri AM set I saw was for something else I saw while looking for something for the Monogram kit.  I can only find the set for the Hasegawa kit.  It's been a long day :).  After looking back at the instructions for the resin cockpit I worked with, it was designed for a Monogram kit but I used it with the Tamiya kit without even realizing it, so I guess I'm more experienced than I thought!  Bish, the Aires 4119 is the one I was looking at.

Looking at that set bob, I don't think it would matter what kit it was meant for. On every resin pit I have used, I have had to remove all the kit pit detail and thin the wall's. It don't look like you will need any of the kit parts, so it should be simple enough.

Thanks Bish.  I'll probably just pick up the PE set since it's far cheaper and it'll be something different for me.

Now that's a nice scheme. I have something similar in mind for a late war D-8, not for this build though. Which museum is that in.

There just aint no way in HELL I would attempt that scheme.I'm getting better with my mottle skills but I aint nowhere near that level!!! LOL

Sorry for the delayed response; yes, I definitely want to do a 1/48 kit. I've been doing less-expensive Revell kits to get back into modeling and build up my confidence, but I'm feeling a bit adventurous now, so I'd like to stretch out and get a more complex kit (i.e. PE, recessed panel lines, etc.). Just have...to...pick...one.
