Ju 87 Stuka GB

I bought a new compressor when the old one went belly-up, and replaced some parts on the airbrush.  The airbrush is a twenty-year old Paasche H and the compressor is Paasche, with an air tank and regulator. First kit I used them on.  Paint is Testor's MM.  Everything seemed to work well together.

And. . . I do think I got the propeller on the right way; leastwise, it looks like it!   I'll always have fond memories of B-24's from now on.

Now you mention it, these is something funny about those wheel spats. You sure they are on the right way round

I just got my copy of the May issue today and there is a great article in there on a build of the Airfix 24th Stuka. Very timely I thought.

Guys, we have 2 days left. I plan on doing a build round up in the aircraft section, but will wait until the end of April by when hopefully we will have a couple more completed builds. I know shooter is not far from finishing, how about the others.

Mine is still a couple of weeks off, but I'm off after Easter so it could get done then. At the moment the wings are on and most of the seams are sorted. I was a bit surprised how much i had to sort out on the seams but that's all sorted now

Guess I better go and check the mail box to see if my FSM issue arrived.

Just my luck there would be an article on the Airfix Stuka now that mine is Jusssssst about finish. I have just a few components to attach and it's done by I been adding more wiring and tubing to the engine area and I just don't know when to stop and call it quits, but it is looking good. Well I can add the pitot tube again, since I just knocked it off the wing. Ought to wrap it up on Wednesday and have final pics to post.

I'm not going to make it and wish to apologise to the group. This will be my first uncompleted GB and I don't like that because when I commit to something I usually do it. The extension makes this even more embarrassing to me.

Still masking the splinter pattern, so lots left to do.

It would be easy to blame the kit, which has been challenging, but hasn't really been that, it's been all me.

Even though I dropped the ball, this has been a great GB and I've enjoyed participating to the extent I did.

No worries Greg. I hope you will still post your progress pics and show us the finished build. I will hold off on the round up thread until the end of April, if your not done but think you might be finished son after, I will hold off a bit. It would be nice to get as many completed builds in there as possible.

Well, you got a bt more than 20 mins Greg. In fact its a touch over 2 hours my time. reckon you can manage it.

Well I think I will call it finish, heaven knows I can sure go on and on and on by adding more to her. I made a Youtube video with a short montage of progress pics. Been playing with the Windows movie maker program.

I added a hand grip to the gunner's rotating MG window.

Grip handles and a side mirror to the pilot fwd window. I did clean up the inside frame work.

For the gunner belt, I went ahead and used the kit part and modified it by sanding of the outer belt ends, cut out holes in the 2 buckles than used the remaining pieces from the RB seatbelt set to make the buckle ends.

Figuring that the belt would hang lose when not in use I attached it to just one side letting it hang down.

Some of the adding plumbing I put into the engine area.

If this were a 48th scale kit I would never attempt to do it but in this scale it begs for more.

Of course this being an AIRFIX kit, the engine cowling panels don't want to fit right. I fiddled with the top cowling to look like it's flush with the middle panel while on the other side there's an unsightly gap. I also noticed that I got the antenna wire a tad too tight. Wrote it up for maintenance to fix.

You can see how it gaps at the front just above the spinner.

Looks almost ready for take off here.

I was dusting it with real sand for a slightly weathered look.

The sand color looks darker when photographed inside.

Bish...let me play around with the camera again in the morning to see if I can get better light for a final pic for you to post with your others unless you like one of the above photos?

I would like to thank every one for taking part in this GB for all the great builds. At one point, I did wonder if we would get half of the committed builds done, but you guys really pulled it out and we now have 22 out of 37. And possibly a couple more to come. Thanks all.

As I mentioned, I will do a build round up at the end of April. I may well look at doing another Stuka GB in a few years, but in the mean time, I hope you guys won't forget this awesome plane and I look forward to see some get built, there will certainly be more Stuka's in my future.

And thank you all, GB's are nothing without committed people building and having some fun together.

Thanks for running this GB Bish!  I learned a lot from it, in fact more a lot more than I thought I would.  I'll fondly remember this as my first GB as well.  Every model I've built since then has been for a GB.  You got me hooked.

Hi Bish and a big thank you for hosting the Stuka build, you did a fine job and I will be looking forward to the next one though I might go 1/32nd unless someone were to put out a 1/24th G version. If I had built this Airfix kit out of the box I probably would have been done a few months ago but I had fun trying to detail the cockpit and the engine using photo's I found on the internet and a little Artistic liberty to boot.

And a big shout out to all my fellow molders here, I really enjoyed seeing what you have done with your birds, sharp looking winners all , and I learned some valued tips here too. I was also struck how the RLM 70 and 71 splinter pattern was nearly identical on all the Stukas regardless of squadrons and their locations.

Here's a couple more pics I took this morning. If I had planned on closing the engine I would have just inserted the engine block, add the panels and do a proper filling of any gaps but I will be displaying her in the case with panels off.

Ah ah! she does fit in the case.

Well, hopefully by the time of the next one, I will have enough space that I can do that big kit. I would like to see a 24th G as well, I am hoping that Trump either follow up there D or a conversion comes out.

I like the idea of having the engine on show, be a shame not to see all that. But I do plan on doing mine with a yellow nose, which I do like on the aircraft, so not sure what I will do there. I might fit the panels on one side but not the other if I can.

All that extra detail was well worth it, and I have found it slightly addictive. Is that the Airfix 24th 190 above it.

I'm sorry to be one of the non-finishers. I did try to contribute as I could during my non-building phases, which was most of the past year.

I'll do what I can re the end of April. I'm pretty slow, but will try.

Thanks greg, and glad to have you on board. If its not done by the end of April, then just let me know how long you think it will be, and I can either put off the roundup for a week or so or ad yours in later on. Be a shame not to have it up there.
