The weather tonight? Right now it it is 10 degrees, with predictions anywhere from +2 to -2 for the overnight low. We were running 65-70 temps  right before this arctic front hit.

I hope you guys don't mind if I share a bit of and experience I had today and an unexpected finding of a treasure!

I was going through items in the utility room today, when I opened up a cabinet door and out tumbled a small item. Catching it in my hand, I realized of was some sort of a locket! On the front it shows in raised relief, the City of Chicago! Also shown are some of the features of Chicago, such as Marina City, the historic Water Tower, and Buckingham Fountain! This is the fountain you always see on the opening credits of "Married With Children" Chicago is the city my Mother and Grandmother were born in.

The locket itself isn't the special part. It isn't all that old as Marina City was completed in 1964. Mom and Gran came out to Denver in the 50's so it was probably bought during a later visit back home.

Inside was the treasure! There I found 2 photographs and realized it belonged to my grandmother. The pictures are of the two men that Grandma loved dearly, both known as "Jimmy". The top one being Jimmy Pembroke, Gran's second husband, whom she was forced to leave at the instruction of the Catholic Church. They would not recognize the marriage as she was a divorced woman, and therefore it would be "living in sin" to stay. It broke her heart, but she did it anyway.

The second "Jimmy"? Well, I'll leave you to guess whom that may be......

Now I have never believed in spirits and ghosts and all that, but I find it interesting that this thing should fall out of a cabinet, and right into the palm of my hand!

Hello Friends!

Gamera, some cool pics there! About the weather, we had one night of -7 here! When the cold front hit, the temps dropped over 40 degrees in a matter of ours! Talk about a shock to the system.

And  bit of an update: today was a very long and emotional day. A friend and his wife came over to the house to help. Chuck (the friend) and I loaded everything I could find in the house that was metal and headed off to the scrap dealer. Made about 40 bucks off 2 trips. Didn't seem like a lot, but it was getting more out of the way. In the meantime, Dawn began packing up some of the figures of angels and stuff and then found somebody who wanted the Angels. She also went through Mom's room and sorted out a lot of stuff, taking items off to donate and also taking much of the sewing, yarn and stuff like that off herself. (I said to take what she could use) . It was hard to even watch and I found myself so distraught, I was nearly shutting down. I just wanted to crawl away and hide somewhere.

I was shortly after that, when an agent arrived that I had set up a meeting with. He saw the state I was in and offered to come another time. I said no, let's do this. We toured the house, and then we talked. He presented me with this booklet, showing all the information he had about the property. It has all kinds of charts, graphs and so on showing sales trends, maps etc. showing what areas homes were selling and so on. Very impressive. His target he came up with was around $219K to 249K. Probably closer to the lower number once he saw the older appliances ans so forth.

His first advice: put down the paint brush and step away from it! Anyone in the market for this sort of home is most likely going to redo carpeting and paint themselves, and very likely a home someone would want to remodel. Anything I do is not going to add any value what-so-ever. I liked the sound of that!

His advise it to empty the house, remove anything personal, such as curtains, etc. and do basic cleaning, and not to even get to carried away with that!. Anything more is simply a waste of time and money!

He also said if I want to move faster, there is the option of bringing in an investor, who could put cash in my hand in a week or so. The downside: probably in the range of around $175k.

He seems very professional and comes to me through a circle of friends, some of whom I have known for 30+ years.

Much to think about.

Wow Jim, -7 degrees?  I guess I will stop complaining about the cold weather here.  It is supposed to get down to 10 degrees Monday night, which still sucks, especially for the middle of November.

I am very glad you have friends close by and willing to help you with your Mom's house.  And from what that agent told you, it sounds like you won't have as much work as you originally thought.  That is good news!

Mike: Yeap, good eyes there! The F-101 is flanked by a F-100 and a F-104. I was a little impressed, I had no idea the Voodoo is about twice the size of the Starfighter, guess I'd always assumed they were pretty close to the same size. They've got about every Cold War US fighter ever made down here but for the F-102/F-106 which seems a curious omission. Plus a SR-71, B-47, B-52, Canberra as well as the P-47, P-51, B-25, B-17, C-47 gunship and a few more I'm probably omitting.

Duke: Cool, I had no idea! Really nice place down here though, I wouldn't mind living in the area. My hotel is on Okaloosa Island and I've been driving back and forth to Shalimar and though it so far.

Anyway, the F-100- she needs a little paint and love I think:

The radioactive MiG- ouch the paint was peeled in a few places and I poked it! Looks kinda small compared to the B-47 though:

I saw several I think they were F-35s fly over. Still think it's an ugly bird but they were still pretty cool.

Thanks for the closer look on the Super Sabre; I have an affinity for her close to the way our friend Ken feels about the Voodoo! If they cover my airfare from OKC, I'll come every weekend to repaint and apply TLC no problem!

On a lighter note, have been working a bit at the hobby desk. Decided I was driving myself too hard.

I am on vacation in Florida again and went by the USAF Armament Museum yesterday. 

Ready to meet you at the door is MOAB, the biggest conventional bomb ever, the drop the friggin' thing out of the cargo door of a C-130- it's FRIGGIN' HUGE!!!

Unfortunately the battery in both my camera and cell phone went dead before I could take many photos but the museum is only about 5 miles from my hotel and admission is free so I'm going to have to go by and take some more.

Plus I want someone to take a photo of me with MOAB.

Oh wow! Thanks for those pics! My family lives there in Shalimar about 5 minutes away from that museum. Oh man, you just made me homesick! I've been there quite a few times and love it every time. Check out the MiG-21 outside behind the fencing. It's in there because it used to be a Soviet nuclear alert bird... it's still radioactive!

Last time I was at that museum, a major thunderstorm was going on outside. You could hear the rain hitting the roof so loud, it made it hard to talk. Then the thunder came; and we were briefly cast into darkness when the power went out for about three or four minutes! What an awesome trip!

Forty ain't nothing this time of year in Florida. It can be pretty rare, but I've seen it colder by far in Northwest Florida. Have fun there in my Hometown, and enjoy the rest of the area!

Great pics Cliff. It looks like there might be an F-100 adjacent to the Voodoo possibly, yes? Those two plus the ThunderChief inside make quite a nice trio. It's cool that you found this place and shared the photos! Thanks.

Wow, 40 degrees in Florida!  Too bad on your timing.  It is really cold here too.  Right now it is 27 degrees and it is snowing!  And we are expecting 1-3 inches this Saturday night.  Way too cold for this time of year.  It looks like the predictions for another bad winter are coming true.

On my Zero project, I hope to get back on it tomorrow evening.  I have been spending the last week doing research on the colors used in the cockpit.  I have a good handle on it now and will apply what I have learned.

As to the house...

I have been at it such a short time, and there is so much to do. I have taken multiple small pick-up loads of clothing and bedding to various donation sites locally. Scrubbing walls, cleaning carpets, etc. I've been there for 4 or 5 hours after my regular job and then this weekend put in a couple 12 - 14 hour days. Not to mention time spent on the phone or the computer at home, looking for information or setting things up.

Being at the house isn't easy as it is filled with ghosts! Don't get me wrong, I don't mean spirits of the departed haunting the house, knocking on the walls and that sort of thing- I don't really believe in that sort of thing, I mean that everything I touch has so many memories attached, sometimes I can almost see them it seems. And it's not just about Mom, it's Dad as well. I miss them both.

It's now 12:02 and Veteran's Day, and I wish to salute all those who have served, esp. Dad!

I don't know why but I didn't  receive an email with this post in it.  Very strange.

The answer to your question about who is in the picture, no, I am not in that picture.  I plan on taking my camera with a tripod to the next meeting to take another picture with me in it.

We may have a new person visiting us at the next meeting.  He looked up the local IPMS chapter and contacted our president.  It will be nice to have a new person.  And he is into modeling military aircraft like me!   

I know what you mean about the "ghosts".  I experience the same thing when I go to my Mom's house to work on something.

I hope you are able to get that house fixed up without too much trouble.  It sound like you are putting a lot of work into it.

I am reminded today of the difference between friends and family. I went to call my friend Chuck, who wasn't home, and I ended up talking to his wife Dawn. Next thing I knew, she informed me that she would over on Wed. to help clean! And she also told me that Chuck was off on Friday, and when he got off of work, she would inform him that he was going to be there to help! Dawn also came down in the middle of the night to sit with me when Mom passed. Sister wasn't around.

My friend Bill stopped by today, bringing me lunch and helped with a few things.

George, who unfortunately lives halfway across the state, has been a huge moral support for me, and has named be as brother and part of his family. He invites me every Thanksgiving and Christmas to be a part of his family gatherings. It's a little awkward to me, I'm honored that he does this.

Ken, whom I have shared countless private conversations with and has also been supportive and someone I could talk to when I needed to.

Many of the others of you here that have also been supportive with your comments and suggestions as well.

What I get with "family" is somebody who thinks you should give, give, give because you happen to share parents. Like you are automatically entitled to things because of that.

OK, I'll shut up!

I will mention that I may not have a lot of time or energy to work on the hobby projects for a while, as I devote energy to this project! Just keep building guys! Every night after work and weekends for me! (Not to mention my vacation!)

I am so very happy that you have friends that live close to you that can help out.  That is so great! 

I wish we lived closer.  In fact, I wish that all of us on this group build lived closer to each other.  I think that we have a really great bunch here.

Yes, I also believe that a blood relation does not grant extra privileges.  You should help out your family, but when all they do is take and never give, then it is time to severe ties.

We will fully understand if we don't see any progress pictures for a while.  But please do stay in touch and keep us informed on how things are going.

I have serious doubts about her grasp of reality. This makes me a little nervous esp. considering she associates with drunks, drug users and other lowlifes. Everybody who sees her asks the same question. Is she on Meth?

Did she make any threats toward you, or insinuate a threat?

I dunno about meth, sounds like a big case of entitlement to me. I don't I'll ever understand that attitude that's it not fair that someone has more stuff than me while completely ignoring the fact that you're working 50-60 hours a week with overtime.

Well the last few days have been an emotional roller coaster here. As I expected, the nephew was still in the house on Sunday when I went to check! I simply looked at him and told him to prepare himself because I was moving on to the next stage! I then left and a short time later his mother sent me a text that they had no way to move his stuff! My response: Not my problem! It was later that she called and said they had a truck and were moving him out. Plus she was taking some furniture.

I let that go as I just wanted him out.

I went to the house tonight to change the locks and was shocked to see just what they had taken! The house looked ransacked! They pretty much helped themselves!

I feel partly to blame as I should have stopped this train-wreck 2 years ago! It has just hit a curve and jumped the tracks!

This is what you get for being a nice guy! Karma? What is Karma? Getting bent over and given the shaft!

I had a bad feeling that something like this was going to happen.  It just fit the personality that you were describing for your sister and nephew.

I too do not believe in Karma.  You have to make your own Karma.

You have two choices now.  Either go after them for the damages and/or theft.  Or call it "done" and move on.  With the stress you have been going through, it is probably better to go with the "call it done" option.  It is impossible to get blood out of a turnip.

Hey guys, there is an entire anime/cartoon series with girls in school uniforms driving around in tanks shooting at each other, it's called Girls Und Panzer and there are a bunch of episodes on YouTube. As said I watched some of it but it's so just weird I ended up kinda in WTH!?! mode after only a few. 

FineMolds even makes tanks in the markings from the series!

Jack: If I ever get to that point, well I'm not going to advertise the fact, that's one thing that would stay firmly in the closet (literally)! Esp those creepy 'caretaker' robots- um NO!!!

I love those Japanese Kaiju/giant monster movies but I don't 'get' the whole anime/manga thing. I have friends really big into it, so much that Japanese schoolgirl is a punchline to about a dozen jokes. When I saw them I just had to pick up a set. The figures are actually nicely detailed, and consist of about the same number of parts as a soldier figure in the same scale. I'm thinking of working the gal in summer dress into the scene with the Type 10 and the winter gal in with a Type 74 I'm thinking of doing the whitewash and winter stuff to- we'll see how it goes.

Jim: Karma, I don't know about it but what goes around does come around. I've seen people just exploit everyone in their family and community till there's no one left and then they move looking for fresh victims. I don't get that whole attitude, I'd guess that none of us do here. I'd just have way too much guilt and shame to ever try to pull something like that.  

That would be too funny doing the girls with the tanks!  I would get a kick out of that!

Well the last few days have been an emotional roller coaster here. As I expected, the nephew was still in the house on Sunday when I went to check! I simply looked at him and told him to prepare himself because I was moving on to the next stage! I then left and a short time later his mother sent me a text that they had no way to move his stuff! My response: Not my problem! It was later that she called and said they had a truck and were moving him out. Plus she was taking some furniture.

I let that go as I just wanted him out.

I went to the house tonight to change the locks and was shocked to see just what they had taken! The house looked ransacked! They pretty much helped themselves!

I feel partly to blame as I should have stopped this train-wreck 2 years ago! It has just hit a curve and jumped the tracks!

This is what you get for being a nice guy! Karma? What is Karma? Getting bent over and given the shaft!

I had a bad feeling that something like this was going to happen.  It just fit the personality that you were describing for your sister and nephew.

I too do not believe in Karma.  You have to make your own Karma.

You have two choices now.  Either go after them for the damages and/or theft.  Or call it "done" and move on.  With the stress you have been going through, it is probably better to go with the "call it done" option.  It is impossible to get blood out of a turnip.
