It's pretty impressive Rob. The plaque up front tells the history of the NAS. About 30 US Navy pilots were killed in aviation related accidents thru the years. Just about every navy aviator that flew off a flat top in WWII trained at this facility.. It also was a transition point for most of our returned POWs at the end of the Viet Nam War.
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!
What a magnificent monument! I'd certainly love to see it live...great looking progress on the Invader too!

I live not too far from Sanford Airport that used to be Sanford NAS during WWII thru Nam. It was also a Vigilante training base. There's a Vigilante gate guardian just before entering the airport and she is huge.
I did a little more work on my Invader and got her ready for paint. Sprayed the bottom black and did preshading. next will be the SEA scheme.

stikpusher I would too! Of course I would have to build it with folded wings for display space purposes... One day if I am lucky...

Good idea to save space! But the cost would keep from doing it. But, you never know....sales, estate sale find, you just never know!

stikpusher Yes it is... and not bargain priced either unless you find one on clearance or second hand...

I bet! This 1/72 is a very nice size as it is. Would love to get the Trump one!
That'd be big one for sure!
Yes, Trumpeter makes a 1/48 RA-5C.
Rob S. Right on Eagle..very remarkable subject to build. Lookin' forward to more.

Hey Rob,
Seems the more I look her up, the more interesting she gets! Wonder if there is a 1/48 kit out there? I have actually seen pics of a camo scheme on the Vig! Not sure how looks on a carrier deck, but it was cool for sure!
stikpusher yeah, kit engineering has not always been so precise... what do you want? seam lines or panel lines? ;) LOL! But seriously, you can replace any lot panel line detail by several methods if you feel so inclined. That is taking shape nicely though. Not a little bird, is she?

Hey Stik,
You are correct! Just my arms are tired from all the sanding! I might do a little paneling here and there, we shall see. She's a pretty smooth plane anyway. all the pics I've seen has her to be a sleek smooth bird. Not a little bird is right! For a 1/72, she is a fair sized build! She'll be just a hair over a foot after the pitot tube is put on and about 8 3/4" wingspan! Will look great on the shelf!
Hey everyone, sorry for the delay in the pics! I (in my mind) was posting pics and it took Bish to tell me I wasn't! So sorry.
Well here are the start pic and the latest pics of the Vig. This kit is gap city! I'm afraid that there will be NO panels lines when I get done! So much sanding that I'm just going for the no seams...detail will suffer I suppose. It is the unique subject that is really cool about this build. Fascinating aircraft for sure! Well here she is. Thanks for looking!
Yes indeed... research is the key on this sort of work. I spend far more hours trolling the internet to find what I am looking for than I do at the workbench creating those details
Thanks a lot, Stik! It's really easy - the hardest part being a good research! Thanks for your kind words and have a nice day

Those simple add ons of strip styrene drilled and cut appropriately where needed really dress up your work here! Outstanding Job Pawel!
Hello everybody!
Eagle90, I'm curious what can be done with that classic kit - good luck with it!
I for myself used the last day of my break and did the following things: I moved on with the gear bays - let me show you my favourite before-after shot. Here's the gear bay OOB:
After I tuned it a bit:
There's still a fuel line to add there, in the gear bay. I also added a small fuel vent on the horizontal stabilizer, correct for my BuNo, and deleted the large one (kit part E39, on the left side of the fuselage tail):
I also added the roller for the tail skid, that was missing from the kit:
The last thing I managed to do was to add the refuelling drogue (sculpted from Milliput):
Now I'm working to put everything together to paint the underside of the model white. Hope you liked the photos, thanks for reading and have a nice day
Yes, most likely the same kit/mold. In the late 70s, Minicraft here in the US was boxing and releasing Hasegawa kits. The boxes had photos of the built model instead of paintings of the subject. They were usually sold for a few bucks less than the Hasegawa boxings like here and came with Scalemaster decals.
stikpusher I remember building the Minicraft USA boxing of that RA-5C kit sometime in the late 70s or so... Ok guys, I have updated the front page completions photo roster. Please let me know if I have missed anybody...

Hey Stik, the bottom of the box top says "distributed by MiniCraft". Might be the same mold? 70's might be the time frame for this one too.
Bish Pawel Eagle90 - ain't that a classic! How old is your kit? But it's very cool, maybe we can get here the complete Navy attack series? We're only missing the A-1 and A-6 now! Good luck with your build and have a nice day Paweł All this reminds me of a cartoon from the Falklands war. And speaking of the A-5, now we have one. Nice to see it started Eagle.

LOL! I love it!
Hey Pawel,
Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Had to work late. You know, I'm not sure how old this kit is. I have checked the instructions and all over the box and no dates at all! Nothing was on the plastic either. The kit # is JS-027:180. Not sure if that will tell us anything or not. It is yet another estate sale kit I have. I bought over 300 kits in the last estate sale I did, so chances are you will see them before any other kit I have! Would be interesting to see the age of this kit. The decals are a little yellowed, so it might have been around for a bit.
Terry, that mud came out great! I know there's still a lot to do, just wanted to say the wheel would have to be the dirtiest of them all - they contact the mud together with the tracks, but don't get the chance to shake it all off, like the tracks do. On the photos you usually don't see the line between the metal and the rubber part any more - dirt covers it all. I just described the easiest way that I know to get this effect. Hope it helps, once again good luck and have a nice day
Thanks Bish, Rob.
Pawel what I did was get some paint and dirt under the hull behind the wheels, attach the tracks then near the end I'll weather the entire area wheels and all. I guess it didn't come out that way but even the working behind the wheels is nowhere completed, just a base of resin, mud and some pigment.
Terry
Terry - comin' along great! Of little detail I just love that vise part... A little tip on the wheels, if I may... They have a tendency to look too clean - I'd advise to paint them all mud colour, then maybe pick out the centres just a little with OD and do just the surfaces that contact the track rubber colour (dark grey, with little mud mixed in) - seems excessive on paper, but looks totally OK on a weathered track. Good luck with your build and have a nice day
Very impressive vehicle Terry...great challenge too.
Nice work there Terry.

The tracks are 90% finished and installed. I sprayed a coat of base paint and used an acrylic resin on the lower hull and added a "Vietnam Mix" of Mig pigments (roughly 2 to 1 European Earth to Vietnam Dirt) to give this area some coverage and I'll finish weathering the wheels, track and the lower hull when i'm finished with assembly. I also decided to display the boom in an operational mode so I can use it at a later date, and i'm also showing a couple of the many pulleys and a neat little vice that'll be mounted on the rear deck. Maybe its me but I find in AFV kits especially the older ones, that I always seem to have fit issues when it comes to larger "body" pieces and thats the case again this time. Even though the lower hull is perfectly square, I had some trouble setting the upper hull. It didn't want to lay flat and "appeared" slightly askew, so a little coaxing and clamps should do the trick. Terry

pawel, I just checked scale mates and while I could not find that exact boxing, the kit originates in the 1960's with these boxing's being from the 70's. And from the looks of it, the kit has never been updated, even those from the 80's only have a new box and decals.
