Hi Bob, It is coming along nice. Looking forward to how it looks with pain. I forget, are you building Anakin's version?

Thanks Nuc! I am doing Anakin's fighter. I think it would look pretty cool displayed next to my kit of Darth Vader's TIE Advanced. I'm going to try the hairspray technique for the chipping of the yellow paint. I'm going to spray the hairspray on today.
On my bench: Academy 1/35 UH-60L Black Hawk
Well, I sprayed a coat of light ghost grey as the base color and covered that with hairspray to chip the next layer of paint (hopefully it turns out, it's my first time trying it). I spent about an hour masking the fighter in preparation for the yellow of Anakin's fighter and just as I was ready to start mixing paint for my airbrush and when I went to open my bottle of yellow paint I discovered it had dried itself out... I guess I'll be making a run to the hobby shop this week.
Finally got some time at the bench after a mini-vacation at my sister's. I sprayed the yellow and got it chipped. After I took the first picture I realized I forgot to paint a couple of panels so I did those real quick before I got too far into the chipping. I used a couple of pictures online and the box art as references to see where the paint is chipped. Here's the before and after:
SB, that is looking pretty good there! I do like the chipping.
As for me, I finally got started on my K'T'Inga Class Battle Cruiser yesterday. I was able to get all the major sub assemblies built and now I need to do filling and seam clean up before I can get the beast all in one single assembly. I will get some photos posted later in the week.

Bob: That's looking pretty darn awesome, I love how the chipping came out.
SP: Sounds cool!

Thanks guys! I think it looks pretty good for my first go at using hairspray for chipping. Looks a lot better than when I used to try to paint the chipping. I can't wait to see your Klingon battle cruiser Stik
Well tomorrow I hopefully will have time in the morning to get my work photographed and posted
Well here we go. My first sci fi model build in probably 25 years.
Main hull, lower and upper surfaces
Bridge & command section
Engineering section
Connection section
Warp Engines
A very low parts count, and not exceptionally well fitting. But then again this kit was first released in 1979 or 1980 so the molds are old. Now I have to do a bit of filling and sanding before I can get it all together and start painting...
Great start Stik! I've always liked the look of the older Klingon ships.
Yes nice SP, I built that kit back in the late '80s. Watched the beginning of ST:TMP where I'd taped it off TV about five zillion times to try to get the paint right, yes this was back when the internet was a new and strange thing. I should still have the kit... somewhere...
SB, Your Eta-2 is looking good, I like the paint chipping also, Looking forward to it all coming together.
Stik, Nice start on the K'Tinga. It's hard to shake the Sci-Fi bug once it bites.
Thanks for the encouragement guys! Yes the sci fi stuff is alluring and fun. I still have plenty more in my stash. Although I must retract my original statement about not having built any in over 20 years. I did start but not complete a sci fi April fools project about 7 years ago. One day I will get it done.
As for this one, I have been scouring the Internet for painting info, especially on the original studio models. While the info I found was not overly specific, I think I have settled upon colors that will work once I get the seam filling and clean up done and I can start slinging paint.
Thanks Nuc, this has been a fun relaxing build. I've been getting some pretty regular benchtime so I've made a bit of progress on the starfighter. I applied the decals, which were very thick but didn't silver as far as I can tell. I also did a panel line wash and gave it a flat coat for the pastels that are coming for weathering. I also attached the S-Foil flaps. I think I'll be done with this one later tonight or tomorrow at the latest.
Oh, and R2 is finished and waiting to put be put on board.
SB, that looks really sharp! Very well done so far!
Thanks Stik! I'm keeping the weathering kind of light compared to say an X-Wing. I've seen some builds of this online where the weathering was too much. I think I'm done with it, but I want to wait a bit before I decide for sure. Don't want to overdo it.
Lovin' it silentBob...that wear job looks fantastic!

On the Bench: Nothing on the go ATM
Thanks Rob! I'm calling this one finished. After going to my son's T-Ball practice and eating dinner I took another look at it and decided I liked the weathering. Overall, this is a very nice kit, I'll have to look around to see if I can get a few more, after all Anakin needs a wing man...
Any comments/critiques are more than welcome.

Beautiful! But didn't Anakin fly wing to Obi Wan?
Thanks Stik, and you have me there. The Padawan should always fly wing to the Master.
She looks terrific Bob!
Thank you sir!
Wow, there's so much great work going on here.
I finally had some time to go back and start the last stage of weathering... pigments. I'm using Grimy Black to fill in the filth on this hunk of junk. Still need to weather the death star tiles more. That's up next.
Señor that looks amazing! I love the weathering
Thanks, silentbob.
Wow, she looks fantastic!! So just a little more work on the Falcon and then to weathering the DS base?
Thanks, gamera! Yes, I need to apply pigments to the underside of the falcon and then focus on the base a bit more. I've done some basic washes on the tiles but I still need to do some streaking and pigment work on them.
the Falcon looks nice. guess i best start on my T-2 AEK now that regionals is over and my block seems to have disolved.

The Falcon is generally 'freaking me out'!! Wicked work....looks like it's ready to be used as a genuine prop ready for filming!
started on the T-2 AEK. Pegasus has different plastic so it is interesting.
