celebrated paying off my school loan by ordering the VOODOO GFX lighting kits for both. also bought the TRUMPETER 1/350 1917 pre-dreadnought and for someone who doesn't do sci-fi (i haven't started so it is true) a STAR WARS AT-AT.

Up close the paint isn't really sharp but it will look good enough in the closed cockpit I think.

I finally have some work in on the Forbidden Planet C-57D Cruiser. The saucer halves and parts are primed and painted. I used Tamiya Fine Gray Primer and Tamiya TS76 Mica Silver on all parts except one of the loading ramps and the hand rails. I still have the outer ring to paint on the upper saucer half that will be masked off and sprayed with Tamiya TS4 German Grey. Next thing to do will be to assemble and install the electronics and final saucer assembly. Terry

me too. picked up a 3 week temp job so will celebrate by ordering VOODOO GFX lighting kits for T-2 AHK and HKT. might be best to start with a known before trying to do one on my own.

There are some nice looking builds going on in here!

I was away for a while.  Life sort of got in the way and kept me from the bench for about six weeks.  But I'm getting back into the swing of things.

I've got a bit of an update on the MPC X-wing.  I've decided to paint the rebel pilot that comes with the kit.  I hardly ever use the pilots but since I'm lighting this one up like its in flight and since there is no seat detail I kinda have to.

The kit pilot is not accurate at all.  He looks like he's wearing a Mercury Astronaut helmet.  So I added a styrene strip to give it that bulge in the center:

I didn't take a pic of it but the arms, when attached without modification, looked like they were trying to lift a barrel or something.  And the hands were down past the knees!  So I cut them down a bit to try to make them look a little more natural.  Now he looks like Hans and Frans flexing their pecks.  I used Mr. Dissolved Putty to fill the gaps:

Like I said, I don't normally paint the pilot figures so I'm not expecting to win any awards with this guy, but I think he turned out ok.  I used Citadel wargaming paint:

I'm definitely doing alot more scratch building on this kit than I was planning on doing...

Jibber, washing never hurts. Better to be safe than sorry. After applying the primer check and make sure there are no small globs of primer from the can. If you do get some, 600 to 800 grit sanding pads should take care of those. I would then use a tack or microfiber cloth to remove any sanding particles instead of rewashing. As you already know surface prep is most important with metal finishes especially on a large smooth surface like you have. Oh and don't forget to wear gloves, body oil can really mess with the finish.

I don't think so but it has such a smooth surface its not like washing smaller parts? Gamera the kit comes with a set of rotating red LED's but I thought lighting the stairways underneath would look cool but I don't know if I have the room. I may have to do some modifications. I almost never do this but I'm have a hard time waiting to start this one, I may just go ahead and build two at a time.

Terry, dang I saw all the lighting stuff you had there but forgot to comment! Really looking forward to seeing her all 'blinged out!' Personally I'd just wash the thing off with some dishwashing detergent, I mean it can't hurt can it?

I have a question on painting such a large (12") flat saucer. My plan is to prime it by spraying Tamiya Fine White or Gray from a rattle can, I've used this before with great results on larger pieces but never this big and this flat. My question is should I wash the saucer off before priming because it is so flat and will magnify any flaws. Thanks ,Terry

The Falcon is coming along nicely, this is one I'm really interested in and I can't wait til its painted. Theres so many lines and nooks, should be very cool. Nice build...

That falcon is looking nice good progress! Not much for me to show, just doing clean-up. The Valkyrie has some nice molding lines along the hull and I'm having to rescribe some of the hull plating. On the plus side I have all six engines ready for lighting.

My next bright idea is to core out the landing bays, however that will be a lot of work. Still contemplating that one.

Its a first for me, I wanted to get my feet wet and try a few. I'm going to get started on it next week.

Wayne I just opened up my Forbidden Planet cruiser. It has more parts than I thought it would and it comes with rotating LED's (left) under the saucer section. I'm thinking about building it in the landed ramps down position and with the other LED's, I think I'll light the stairways in a downward direction. I'll be able to light it two different ways. The saucer section is a little bigger than I thought but it should build up into a real nice ship. This will be the first time for me painting something so large, should be interesting. The outer ring of the saucer section is a different color so this makes for a bit of a challenge.  Terry

Well I do have that one lonely Star Destroyer in my stash... I originally wanted to build it for Wayne's GB, but I'm afraid I'll have to drop out of that one. I want to try my hand at some lighting, but the custom lighting set I ordered wasn't available

hey SS no worries on dropping out my GB. i understand especially given having to wait for the parts to do it the way you want. i'll keep you listed for now. i'm going to order some VOODOOFX light kits for my T-2 stuff.

watched RISE OF THE MACHINES tonight and have SARAH CONNER CHRONICLES on dvd. of course no killer machines there.

Hey Wayne, I'm afraid I'll have to drop out of this one. I highly doubt I'll be able to even assemble my resin monster within the time frame. I want to do it properly (that kit is damn rare and bloody expensive) with custom lighting and a nice, solid stand. The custom lighting set I ordered sadly isn't available, so I'll probably have to make my lighting from scratch and that's gonna be time consuming as all hell. I'll still stick around in here and comment on all the great builds, and maybe (not too confident 'bout that though) end up building her with you guys... I really hope I can pull it off, but I won't be able to start untill February...

That's a bucket load of greeblies there! That detail is going to look awesome when she's all painted up.

Whew! Finally got all the little tiny tiny little pieces in place on the back of the falcon:

I have to say that putting on all these little pieces was pretty therapeutic (sp?).

I'm on step 21 of 31 in the build. Feel like I'm over the hump, though I haven't started wiring the lighting yet, so maybe I'm delusional.

Hi Schattenspartan,  it's a Battlestar from the series. Classed as a Light battlestar i believe it was destroyed during the cylon attack on the twelve colonies. I think it was also Adama's first command which ended poorly.

so a baby battlestar. i've een working on 1/72 and japanese 3 GBs but now watching TERMINATOR SALVATION and will wonder down to the stash and pull out T-2 stuff to mull over.

sometimes you can't tell if it's worth the effort until it's in place.

A small update...

As I continue to attach the 100s of tiny little greelbies to the hull of the falcon, I took some time to install the resin engine fans. I dremel'd out the center of the kit piece, sanded the fans to clean them up, and then CA glued them in. 

Here they are dryfitted in place. I won't attach them until I prime everything and paint the area underneath the engines dark grey/black.

And here's the resin radar dish subassembly, shot with primer.
