Ok, so, I just picked up my Hasegawa 106 at the Post Office. First impression, `Not Great`. Oh well, I guess you get what you paid for. Didn`t realize it was such an old mold. Raised panel lines and really nothing in the pitty. The biggest disappointment is the canopy. You have to hold it up in a certain light to see the demarcation lines, so, that`ll be a bit of a masking mess. The decal sheet is quite good though. All decals are on register and look as though they were done within the this or the last decade.

I shouldn`t complain so much as it`s just a privilege these days to get a 106. Wish MENG did both 106 and 102. Gonna muscle through it and see how she ends up.

Did a search on squadron, spruebrothers, and scale hobbyist and I couldn't find anything. Does anybody know if somebody out there makes decals for this beautiful bird?

That`s gorgeous, eh? Hasegawa makes that exact kit, but, getting the decals alone, hard to say.

So, as I said earlier, the 106 arrived today. Here it is in all it's Hasegawa'ness:

So, there it is. Low part count, so, it'll probably go together quite quickly. Problem though is I have no FS 16473 Aircraft Grey, so, looks like I might have to head to Montreal on Saturday to get some MM. She's uni-coloured, so, that'll mean an even quicker construction time. I've read some reviews on it that say it goes together very will with very low need for any filling. My only issue is the raised panel lines. difficult to sand near without fear of damaging them. Anyway, if I can get some paint, I'll try to get this on the go this weekend. 

Ok, started looking at the 106 tonight. I know I'm opening myself up to getting flamed by you guys, but, as you can see, I CANNOT in good conscience put this blob of grey plastic in the 'pit of this 'not so great in the first place kit, LOL'. Anyway, have this Verlinden ejec seat from a 104 to substitute. So, whattaya'll think??

Another thing, need some advice. My LHS only has one bottle of FS 16473, and it`s an Enamel. Now, I`ve been babying my Iwata all these years with only Acrylics...am I going to have issues cleaning it after using MM enamels? Thanks!

A minor point. The F-104 and F-106 used different ejection seats.

The -104 was a Stanly seat and the -106 was a WAC seat.

Yeah...that seat is...haha.  I don't think you'll have a problem cleaning it as long as you use the proper stuff. I like acrylics for that reason and I've only used enamels out of my airbrush once though, so maybe I'm not the person to ask

I have two Badgers and I spray enamels and acrylics with them. I use lacquer thinner to clean them as LT will dissolve either type dried or not. I have taken a fully dry hand brush I thought was clean after using acrylics and rolled it in my lacquer filled glass jar and I couldn't believe how much paint came off. Works the same with enamels.

Thanks Plastic...I've got lots of LT, so, I think I'll take the bite and give enamels a go this weekend on my 106 build.

I'm almost ready to start the -102.  I received some NASA decals fundekals but I ordered a PE set from Eduard last night, so It will be a little while before it gets to me.

Started both kits today starting with the cockpits.

Here is the F-104 cockpit. No detail at all.

Painted the pilot for the f-104. I normally dont use aircrew in my builds, but this kit will need some help with the cockpit to liven it up. I still have to weather him to get him to look right.

Here is the pilot for the F-106 all painted up with a basecoat of light gray, painted with the Tamiya transparent orange for the flight suit in layers to build up color and shadows. The rest is done with normal Tamiya acrylics. Just needs to be dullcoated once the paint cures.

I'll have to buy one in 1/72 later down the road then it seems as further searches turned up nothing for the 1/48 reveal kit.

B_one: Both those pilots are looking very nice, I broke out the 106 today as well, I've gotten relatively far and will continue working on it tonight so I'll hold off on the progress pics.

I've got most of the cockpit done, but only thing completely done is the IP so here's that....

I've got the weapons and fuel tanks put together as well....

When doing some research I found out that all four of the AIM-4's are NOT the same. The F-106 carried 2 AIM-4F's in the front and 2 AIM-4G's in the back flanking the Genie...the difference being the G's were IR-guided and have different "tips" as seen in this picture.

I also have the fuselage halves together...

For all the other ones building an F-106 I've found this website, I suggest taking a gander at it...some interesting things on it for sure.

Lots of great work going on here, great job guys.  I'm throwing in my entry that I picked up a while back on Ebay as a package deal along with an F-100, an F-102 and a 106. They came out to about $18 each including the shipping. I also have another one I picked up at Hobby Lobby with a 40% coupon for a little over $12.

Started cleaning up the seats and cockpit parts and are ready for painting. The seats have real nice molded details as the rest of the cockpit. They will paint up very nice.

Josiah...for my 106, I am going to be forced into using 4 x Falcon G's. The kit come with 4 x rather 'not good' versions, so, I will be using G's from my Hasegawa Aircraft Weapons set. The set has G's and D's, but, I can't find (in your excellent reference, thanks!!) any evidence that the One-Oh-Sixes used the C model. So, I'm forced to use 4 G's. Seems that the 102 used the D.

Plasticj....that big Voodoo's gonna be awesome. You gonna go with what's in the box for painting/marking or hold out for something AM? I did my Voodoo earlier this year in a rare RCAF early appearance in NM. Very cool to see a Voodoo in NM.

I actually have decals in the other Voodoo box for a NM one that I want to do with Alaclad paints and this one will be mostly OOB since the molding detail is so good. The included decals look to be of good quality.

Wow are those bangseats for the Monogram in the kit!? ALmost rivals some resin stuff, much better than most kit seats I have seen.

This was my NM RCAF Voodoo from earlier this year. This was Revell Germany's big Voodoo release last year which was just a scaled down 1/48 (great kit, I must say). This is a great example that Canada DID actually employ nuclear weapons (despite what MOST think). You can see the Genies slung underneath. I did it with Tamiya bare metal mostly because it's 1/72 and I've never been brave enough to try Alcad stuff yet (and I can't get the products easily). I'm wanting to try Alcad on a big bird, say a 1/32 104 perhaps.
