GROUND ATTACK GB

You poor guy, You've had so many issues with this build. Hang in there, it's almost done. Good news though, it looks great  .

In the last hour, I've had to glue TWO panels back on!!! 

Speaking of fiddly bits, I got all of the access hatches mounted and finished...was a bit of a challenge, AND, she's quite delicate...I dare say, I'll not get through this build without knocking a few off several times!! That said, here she is so far:

Did some basic washing inside the panes. I assume that the Czech AF would have a pristine EXTERIOR, but, would still have wear and basic grime behind closed doors:

Gonna keep at it tonight. Wheels are painted and just need to be mounted and I'm going to decant some Testors Dull coat spraycan paint into a cup and airbrush the entire thing to seal everything. More updates later, thanks for lookin'!!

So, before I start my final round of weathering, decals needed to be added. Applied a good coat of Future as soon as I got home last night. Buffed it out & gave it another (thinned with alcohol) coat right after supper. Let that cure up, buffed again, then DECALS were applied, started around 1030-ish?





Decals printed by TECHMOD - approved! Kinda shiny, but, they ARE going down over a shiny coat of Future. Didn't hit them with any decal solvents as the Future was so fresh. I'll take a look tonight, see if they need anything.

Yeah fjs..just checked it out on the Googles..interesting subject for sure.

If you ever find one, pick up the P-66 "Vanguard", by Sword.  It's a honey of a kit, AND an obscure subject in Chinese markings, which if I recall correctly, is something you like building.

Not much progress tonight. Just painted the landing gear and insides of the 4 removable hatches. Pretty much it for today. Get back at it tomorrow.

Looking good Vance.  I like the subject too, you see those too often!  How was this kit?  I had built a Sword P-66, "Vanguard" some years ago and it too, was a fairly well detailed, model for short run production.  I have built a few of their 1:48 kits, and they were not as good.  

I can't wait to see how this one turns out, looking great so far!!

This is my first Sword kit. It is really well done, likely more recent than the 1/48 kits you had built? (Scalemates lists this one as a brand-new tooling as of 2012 - https://www.scalemates.com/products/product.php?id=147720 )

Nice, fine panel lines & details on the exterior, interior detail has good depth, nice clean edges, good stuff for drybrushing & adding washes to. Everything FITS perfectly. The first complaint with limited run stuff is always "there aren't any locating pins" - thouse would be appreciated when it comes to the landing gear, but the cockpit, engine, fuselage areas, all fit into each other so well you really don't need them. Clear parts are good, decals look good (but I obviously haven't tried them yet). I'd certainly buy another based on this kit.

I'm think the Czech's had this massive Tiger decal made up and then applied to the helo. I can't imagine an artist painted that on both sides. I'd surely love to see this thing for real.

After two sessions of decalling, they are for the most part done. Several for the weapons and the rear rotor that will be done later. I have removed the panels and they are next for prep, painting and mounting tomorrow:

I should have photographed (I totally forgot) the two halves of the door to show the 'Tiger' decal covers them too, anyway:

Ladies and Gentleman.  I am calling this one done!!  1:32 scale Hobby Boss, Il-2, "Sturmovik". 

For paint, I used a combination of Floquil Military Enamels, (Remember them?)  and Model Master Enamels.  Weathering is done with thinned oils and pastels, decals are from the kit.

A pleasant build, but it had it's moments where I was ready to pail the thing...till I remembered how much it cost....then I got back at it....It had a few fit issues with the wings.

Well, there ya have it, all done. 

Can I start on something else that would fit into the ground attack role?  I would like to see this group keep going

Lovin' it Doug...the Thud's one of my fav's.

Thanks Rob. I messed up on one of the colors in the camo scheme. I think I can recover without to much trouble. I got the paint to wet and not mixed right but It is one of the lighter colors and the next color should cover most of the mistakes.
