World at War 1939-1940 Group Build

I'm currently involved with the 1944 GB; trying to get a 1/700 battleship done, before I start up here.

Anyone else started here--or are we all stuck on current projects?

i'm in 5 GBs right now. still waiting for the release of T-35 and BA-10. i do have a couple of fallbacks; BT-5, some PZ-1s, that weird german multi-turret tank, and a G-4 staff car.

Not started yet CMK.

I still have 2 projects to finish before I get to this one.

No problem!  I know from personal experience that the GB's tend to pile up, and this one runs till December 2015, so there's no rush on anything.

I'm going to start the type 97 Chi Ha.

I've run into problems with my F100 Hun. I seem to be missing the clear plastic tree so I need to find a new kit.

Steve, is there any chance you can contact the company and see if you can a replacement.

I will be spending this year doing quite a bit of research into my build. I want to be able to pinpoint the exact glider I am doing. But the maps showing the landing positions of the gliders seem to vary and they don't tally very well with the only 3 photo's I have found of the gliders after landing, so its going to be tricky.

I have a few GB's to do first, so its going to be a while before I get started. But I am sure we can keep this going until people wrap up there others builds.

Revell doesn't have the parts for that old kit, but I ordered AM from Squadron Mail Order. Who new someone made the canopy just for the Monogram 1/48 F100 kit. Thanks for the suggestion.

Here is what I got done today. I'm going to have to put it aside for the moment though. I ordered a Eureka XXL metal barrel and tow cable AM kit. The kits tow cable was so terrible I just had to. Everything else on the kit is very nice, very detailed.

You made a lot of progress there, Steve.  What are you going to use to paint it?

I'm looking through my stash. The only color I have that will work is Tamiya acrylic J.A. Green. The instructions also want Red/Brown, Yellow, and Kaki. I will probably order some while I'm waiting for the AM. I want to stay with acrylic. I prefer that over enamels for AFV's.

I was wondering cuz I didn't think lines like Model Master have a lot of Japanese army colors--if any..

Good to see you started Steve. We don't get many Japanese subjects, especially armour. There plenty of Japanese kits, just not Japanese subjects.

Here's my Chi Ha so far, I'm just waiting for the AM cannon and tow cable to finish and install the tank commander, tracks, weathering and putting it in the diorama.

Looking really nice there.

I wasn't sure how this intricate paint scheme was going to turn out, but I'm ok with it. I think I'm getting better with every build.

How'd you apply the paint scheme, MC?  It looks like it has four colors to it.  Did you brush it or mask it?  Whatever you did, it turned out looking great.

I sprayed the yellow strip first, then applied masking liquid to it as an experiment.  I then sprayed areas of the dark green and masked them off. I then sprayed larger areas of the red/brown snd masked them off over the dark green mask.  Then I sprayed the khaki over everything.  After all was dry. I pulled off the masking and the liquid mask.

I discovered it would have been just as easy to hand paint the yellow strip,  but I didn't want brush marks.

I know what you mean about avoiding brush marks.  I'd rather mask and then airbrush.

What brand of liquid mask did you use?  I've found that MircroMask doesn't lift off painted surfaces very well, so I only use it on clear canopies after I've outlined them with tape.  Maybe what you used works better.

I used "Bob Dively Liquid Mask Film". It says it works on all kinds of surfaces and mainly designed for modeling.

My micromask dried up during my hiatus.
