Hey. guys. everyones builds look great. Thanks for all the comments everyone has given and especially the tips and advice.

I have made a little more progress on the f-100D.

Dry fit of the tub and glued the 20mm ammo bay in place.

The shiny spot on the floor is where some super glue wicked out as I glued the stick in place. How do you guys avoid this? I suppose it won't matter  after clear coating and weathering and then a flat coat.

It doesn't matter that you ARE the best, but that you DID your best!

Hi Mike,

The Super Sabre is coming along nicely!!  Yes  Yes  Great work!

As to the super glue, there are a couple of approaches to getting the glue exactly where you want it.  One is to use a C/A Applicator by Flex-I-File.  It has a double prong (very small) that you dip into a small puddle of C/A.  Then you just touch the spot where you need it.

Another product is also made by Flex-I-File.  It is called "Touch-N-Flow Applicator".  Here is a link to their webpage:

http://www.flex-i-file.com/adhesives.php

You can purchase these from their website or from several hobby shops.

The pit looks good. Just shoot some clear flat and the shine will go away. Ken gave you good ideas but be aware that Touch N Flow makes two types of applicators, one for CA and the other for liquid glue like Tenax and Plast I Weld and both look identical.

If you want to go the cheap way for a CA applicator, take a sewing needle and remove the tip of the eye and slightly open it with a blade. Chuck it into a hand vise and you are ready to dispense a drop of either thin or thick CA precisely where you want it to go.

Hi Everyone!

Whenever I hear of a new product that pertains to this group build, I do my best to post it.  I just discovered a new decal sheet produced by Caracal Models for the new Roden 1/72 C-123B Provider.  Here is a link to a short review by Cybermodeler:

Ken,

I occurs to me that my Trumpeter F-100F Super Saber would fit into this group build. I may join in once I get closer to finishing one of the other kits I have on deck now - not to mention the other big project in my personal life that you know about.

Jim

*******

On my workbench now:

It's all about classic cars now!

Why can't I find the "Any" key on my keyboard?

Hi Everyone,

After my Dad passed away nearly 5 years ago, I have looked at the following picture many times trying to figure out the story.  This picture was taken at Tan Son Nhut Air Base in Vietnam around August of 1964.  You can tell in the picture that something is going on because everyone in it is looking at the same spot.  And several people are running toward the area that everyone is starring at.

I have finally figured out why my Dad took this picture.   I have blown up the area and circled the spot in the following picture:

What I have circled is the nose of a RF-101C.  The fuel truck has backed into it!  Now go back to the first picture and you can understand now what is going on.  Very cool that I finally figured it out!

Hi, Ken,

I don't think that's it, bud. If you notice, the fuel truck is well in front of the nose of the last plane. It's not likely the one plane toward the back of the truck was parked well out in front of the others. I think it just appears the truck is against it from the angle of the photo. The ground crew appear to be walking rather than running - more likely looking for the roach coach :).

Cheers,

Russ

Hi Russ,

I do have the advantage of seeing the photograph in its full size.  Photobucket always shrinks it down.  When I look at the original photo, the truck is not in line with the row of Voodoos.  You can tell the truck is at an angle where the back is in closer to the second plane than the front of the truck is to the first plane.

My Dad took this photo because something had just happened.  You can tell that everyone is looking at the same place (specifically the truck) as if something like a loud noise caught their attention.  And the truck is in the center of the photograph, meaning that was the focus of what my Dad was taking a picture of.

Hi Everyone,

There is a new sheet of decals out by Zotz Decals.  This sheet is for the 1/32 F-4E Phantom II.  It has options for 10 different aircraft stationed at Korat RTAFB Thailand in the late 1960's.  Here is a link to a review on Cybermodeler:

Hi Everyone again!

My last post listed the "Part 2" of the Zotz decals.  Zotz also released another set that is "Part 1".  As was the Part 2 sheet, this sheet is for 1/32 F-4E Phantom II's stationed at Korat RTAFB in the late 1960s.  This sheet contains markings for 9 different aircraft.  The review for this sheet can also be seen at Cybermodeler:

Ahh well, sorry Ken. I didn't know the full story behind it. That would have been a truly unfortunate accident both for the aircraft and for the truck driver. Glad you solved the riddle after all these years.

Cheers,

Russ

Hi Everyone,

Found another interesting piece of helpful information that would be very useful to use as a reference.  There is a new book called "F-105 Thunderchief MiG Killers of the Vietnam War" by Peter E. Davies and produced by Osprey.

As I am sure most of you know, the F-105 was used extensively during the Vietnam War as a bomber.  It was not known for being a dogfighter.  This book depicts the many MiG kills that the F-105 performed.  A cool build for a F-105 in my opinion!

Hi Everyone,

I just found a really cool set of tools that I definitely want to ask Santa for!  Smile  It is the "Molding Flash Sander" by "Hobby Elements".  It is a set of sanding bits that fit your Dremel or other rotary tools.  From the description, it is a great time saver.  Here is a link to a review:

Hi again,

Another item to put on your wish list would be the Grex Airbrush Grip Set.  It fits most brands of airbrushes, (see the compatibility chart on their webpage).  It makes your airbrush much more ergonomic.

Here is a link to a review:

http://www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/tools/grex/tool_grex_ggs1.shtml

I found it available at Sprue Brothers as well as Amazon.

Hi, Ken,

Those are some great items! I'm going to order the sanding bits for sure, but unfortunately, the Grex hand grips won't fit my Passche airbrush.

Thanks for posting the links!

Hi Nomad,

Sorry, although the first Thunderstick II aircraft flew in 1969, they were never used in Vietnam.

Dangit,

Oh well. It was the only kit that I could get without ordering one.

Thanks anyway.

Very sorry to hear that Doug.  Did you look through the list I have on the first page of this build?  There is a surprisingly large amount of aircraft that do meet the criteria of this build.

I was in Hobby Lobby and looking at your list when the T-Stick II caught my eye. I wish Hobby Lobby had a better selection of kits and changed them out also. tired of seeing the same old things all the time.

They had a F4 but it was not the ones on your list.

I agree with you Doug.  Hobby Lobby is the only local store that has any type of selection of plastic models in my town.  So I shop online for models.  Some of my favorites are Scale Hobbyist https://www.scalehobbyist.com/index.php and Sprue Brothers http://www.spruebrothers.com/

They are very reputable and trustworthy.

I agree with you. I have ordered from Scale Hobbyist before and the service was outstanding. I am looking at Sprue Brothers for some detail sets, but I think I will go with Scale Hobbyist.

I will find something for this GB soon. That is if the wife will let me.

Nomad,

You may also want to look at eBay.  You can really find some great deals on there if you know what you are looking for.  There's always a good bunch of kits and detail kits readily available.  You can also look for 'model aircraft lot' items that include several kits in one auction.  I've gotten some really good deals on there, especially on out of production kits.  Check it out!!

It has been a while since I posted. I did a little more work on my Invader and got her ready for paint. Sprayed the bottom black and did preshading. next will be the SEA scheme.

Saw the comments about Hobby Lobby. They used to carry a decent selection back around 06 to 09 then they started getting rid of plastics. They used to carry several of the newer Tamiya and Trumpeter models along with a larger Revell line, including the 1/72  Type VII/C and Gato subs. The 40% coupon made a big dent on their price tag making it more affordable.
