Joe, it's Tamiya #63, the first time I've built this one, it's a shake'n'bake, more or less! I was hoping to get to the green dapple today but I had issues with another project and it got put back to tomorrow... Masking is away all but for the wing roots which need to remain hard for the third colour. Cheers, M/TB379

Wow! Great stuff coming out of you all going into the finish line.

Jack and TJ, Love the fact that you all are working in 1/72. Nice work indeed.

Thunderbolt, Which kit is that that you are working on? Regardless, you have done some choice work so far.

TJ and Jack -- looking very good there!!!

Okay, some progress happening on Black 8. It appears I didn't get a shot of her in the 78, sorry about that. She's now masked and the 79a is on, here she is with soft masks still attached:

The preshading shows through nicely, though more of the effect will be lost as the 80 goes on and inevitably 78 and 79 are reapplied to touch up overspray among the splotches.

I also got the red and white spinner done today, unmasked and satincoated. If the masks pull up paint, as they may do, I've been having a lot of trouble in that regard in the last two years, I'll prep some decal material with 02 and 79 and try to pull a fix out of the hat...

All being well, the 80 is part of tomorrow's targets, and the AB will need cleaning before I attempt the fine stuff.

Cheers, M/TB379

tempestjohnny, both those look good.  Have to agree, precut canopy masks do save a lot of time.

Used a vinyl set on my build, but maybe because of the small scale I'm working in, had to replace the top most one at the rear.  The sides had to curve down a bit, but would not stick.

Up to this point have decals all on, another coat of future, Florys wash and wiped, satin finish, some weathering powders followed with another satin finish.

Next up, attach the fiddly bits and a final once over for any further weathering and touch ups.

regards,

Jack

I'm cutting it close. But they are starting to look like 109's now. First time using precut masks. Why did it take me so long I'm in heaven

Yes you can use that one, it's the best one I have for the time being.

Main colours applied to to Airfix's 72nd Emil.  This one was put away for a spell because of primer problems.  It never fully cured, and was causing the paint to shift and bunch up where I was holding it by the fuselage.  Couldn't sand the blemshes at that time because it was just a gooey mess, and would just spread around.

As one can guess, markings will be with the Adamson cartoon of 8./Jg26, numbered black 9.  I'm not sure of the yellow markings, as most illustrations if not all, have the elevator markings covering much more area.

Will have to play the artistic license card, and make an assumption that since the rudder has a small portion painted yellow, the wing and tail tips were kept small as well, if only for a brief period.

regards,

Jack

Welcome aboard., JR! I guess that makes you our new Geshwaderkommodore! John, sweet bird! I'm confident I can pull off a completion by the end of the year, so my tally will be four for this GB -- it would have been five but I never got the replacement canopy parts for that G-2 I started yonks ago. :-( Cheers, M/TB379

Thanks Bruce and Jack. I appreciate the warm welcome.

Hi John. By God it's been awhile since I've crossed your path and it's good to see you around. Sweet finish on your Gustav. She is certainly a beaut. Excellent work. Is that the pic you like me to use on the completion page?

Gentlemen,

I have started on my G-2, I'll post some progress pictures in the next couple days. I know I will not finish before the end of the year, but, I'm commited to finishing this 109.

Mustang, I'm sure you will get the issue sorted quickly. You are one of the good guys on this forum, and I wish you the best.

Joe Rix, glad to have you on board, you are one of the good guys too!

And to everyone else who has finished a 109 in this GB, I applaud you all for some outstanding work!

Greetings Everyone! As Joe has mentioned, he has asked me if I would step in and administer this GB for him while he deals with some life challenges that we all get tossed at us from time to time. I am more than happy to help my dear friend out and to be here with all of you absolutely fantastic modelers. And, yes, my name is Joe also so that might alliviate some confusion. Lol. I've actually been following this GB a bit early on so, I'm familiar with it mildly. I also build aircraft and I am a fan of Luftwaffe aircraft yet, I do not possess near the wealth of information as you all do. So, bear with me in that regard. I'm not blessed with a whole lot of free time as I am not retired and I work full time, have other obligations and need to be at my bench also but, I will do the very best that I can to ensure things run smoothly. Also, this is the first time I've ever admined a GB.

Let me just say that the quality of skills, talent and knowledge displayed here are absolutely stellar. You folks know how to turn out some gorgeous 109's.

As for myself, I am currently building a Tamiya 1/48 P-47D Bubbletop for the 1945 GB.

I am indeed very happy to be here amongst you all and let's just have fun.

That is all. Carry on.Big Smile

Okay, I masked the wheel wells, then mixed and applied the RLM 78, using the standard recommendation. I'll let it cure overnight, then hard-mask the wingroots and see if I can fix up soft masking for the fuselage demarcation line. Then on with a mixed 79, and when that's hard I'll screw up my courage and do my best to freehand the 80 spots -- I anticipate plenty of backfilling work with 78 and 79 to repair overspray, but that's the technique I use on armour and it seems to work okay... Well, here's one I made earlier ... in the year! You might recall I had a Tammy E7 underway with the intention of doing the famous Black 8, but I stalled way back -- maybe I'd just had enough of the 109 for a while, I've done a Spit, Panzers II and III, a Sherman, a Banshee and made inroads on a 262 since you last saw this bird.

She's preshaded, cockpit interior masked and strut colour sprayed, theatre band sprayed and masked, and the landing gear and prop are well along. I'll be mixing RLMs in Tamiya Acrylics as usual, and may use AM balkenkreutzer and stencil data.

Cheers, M/TB379

Thanks for understanding everybody. I'll be around here and there just not on the scale I was for the time being. I'm pondering the idea of another GB on down the line.....where I actually build one in it. lol

Sorry to hear about that, Joe, but glad to hear you're taking the time to get it all settled. Your kid will thank you for it later, whether he verbalizes it or not. I had a blast in this group build (my first one!) and really appreciate all the time and effort you put into it.

I hope you get everything sorted soon.

No worries, Joe -- we understand entirely. You've been an exemplary GB host, and you've certainly earned some leave to take care of important matters! Hope all's sorted out soon and all turns out for the best, Mike/TB379

Hi Joe, sorry to read this and hope things get sorted out soon (wonder if it has something to do with video games, my nephew is having problems with this and school attendence). Best wishes to you and yours for the holiday season.

Jack

Hey fellas, I’ve been pondering a decision that I have just recently had to put into action. I’ve had some personal things at home that have been progressively getting worse and it needs my attention pertaining to my son and school. I thought that things were in the clear and then it took a wrong turn. It’s quite apparent that my attention needs to be focused on that for a while. I spend a lot of time on the forum and enjoy it immensely but that time has to be suspended for a while until my wife and I get all this sorted out. My building, while slowed, will not stop and I’ll pop in from time to time to show progress but I just can’t be on in the capacity that I have been right now. In the interim my friend Joe Rix will be taking over for the next three weeks until the end of the GB. I know he'll do the GB proud and help to carry it through to the end. I appreciate everyone’s participation here more than I can say and I hope to make a solid return at some point in the next few months. For those of you who celebrate it, may you have a  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, your host Joe.

Jay that looks awesome. Thought I was going to have a day to work on my kits yesterday. Day off from work. No such luck the honey-do list was too much.

Into the painting phase. The scheme I settled on is "White 10" from JG27 which I already have on an EagleCals sheet. Early K scheme of 75/83/76. Still have to do the fin and rudder.

Looking good guys! Glad to see some building getting done. Worked a little more on my K-4. Detailing on the rear cockpit area and underneath.
