Thanks Jack and Marc. Marc, I like that approach to a well worn winter camo. Very convincing.

WOW Jay... just WOW!

A couple of drops of red to Tamiya flat yellow and it was a perfect match to the yellow in the decal markings.  Then I did the same as for the white.  Sprayed the yellow, wiped some patches into it, then over sprayed with some lighted yellow.  Then I did a dot fading with a pale yellow oil.

Base yellow with lightened over spray.

Dots applied and the blending.

And a composite of the before and after.  This will be done to the markings decals once applied.

Thanks guys. Joe, you can use whichever photo you feel best. I will definitely be following everyone's work and will probably do another one or two before all is said and done. This is 1/32 scale and the beading tool used for making rivets is shown here. You can buy a set of many sizes for $20-$25. Useful for other things besides riveting.

That looks simply awesome Jay! From the details to the paint to the weathering and everything in between.....simply awesome. I hope you'll stick around for yet another one as your builds are an inspiration. Let me know which one of those pics you'd like to see in the Completed Builds section and I'll get 'er posted up.

What did you use for those rivets on your 'F"? They look good. That is 1/48 scale, right? Heck, my panel lines disappear under a decal. Wow, lots of skilled modelers here!

Really nice work going on guys! This GB has been most enjoyable so far. I am calling this one done. Hasegawa F of Max-Helmuth Ostermann from JG54. AM includes Eagle Editions spinner, RB Productions belts, and G-factor gear legs. Riveted with a beading tool and painted with Mr. Color.

I did not have anything that showed a clear view of how those pipes went.  Appreciate you showing it.  I went back and pieced together a bit more info on them and working on adding it.

Joe:As the Terminator said in "Judgement Day" T2, "I have detailed files!". It may take me until tomorrow morning, possibly tonight, but more than likely tomorrow but I can post some pics up of the real thing. I'll tell who will know and have pictures since he's building a big azz engine in this GB is Bish!

Marc: This is the good part.....waiting for the anticipation of color!!!

Mustang-Great looking engine

70- good looking line up

Matt-A great ending followed by and real solid start.  IP looks very great

Jay-Love it.

Seemed the right thing to be spraying white while it was snowing outside.  Dunno if this has been done before or not as a technique but it popped into my head so I figured I'd give it a try.  I sealed the camo with Testor's DullCote lacquer  since I knew it wouldn't be affected by the next step which uses alcohol.

I painted the air frame... not the bottom ;)... with Tamiya white just getting enough down to cover the camo but still a bit splotchy.  Then I used a cloth just damp with alcohol to wear away the paint.  I actually did a bit more than what you see n the 1st photo.  Then I went back over that whole thing with very thinned down white leaving the worn stuff showing through a bit.  The overall effect doesn't show to well in the photos and is more discernible to the naked eye.

Next will be to mask for the yellow bits and try the same thing with that color.

Jay,

That scheme is looking great.  Nice and tight paint work.  Love the 1/2 winter camo on the fuselage.  Thanks for sharing.

Bish

I see your not hanging around there Matt. Nice start on the second build.

Nope,  Had a long weekend and have been in the "zone" with building.  The F is much further along now, fuselage is closed up and almost ready for primer.  Think that painting the kit is my favorite part.  Will try to get more pictures taken soon.

Also I am wanting to get this one finished as I am eagerly waiting on the arrival of a Tamiya 1/32 P-51 for the Mustang GB!

Everyone's builds are looking great!  The paintwork being put out there is wonderful, I only hope mine will look that good.  Havent had a whole lot of bench time lately, lots of honey-do's going on around the house.  However, the wife is heading to Israel for business next Sunday, so I should be able to get some good bench time in.

On the Bench:  Lots of unfinished projects!  Smile

70 , Yeah, photo f***it is a real pain in the ***... now they are charging for storage , I think it was like 30.00$ a YEAR for the least amount of storage, dump them. Flickr is a tad complicated to use, (several extra steps involved to store and post) but if I can learn it, any body can. Jack helped me learn the basics of flickr, and I've been happy every since.

Jay, Handi and so many others -- gorgeous work, all! I spend a week at work, just looking in as time permits, and a whirlwind of work happens! There is a true cadre of talent here!

I'll have pics of the prep phase on the G-2 soon.

That detail is right on Matt! I can't get over the direct similarities to the 24th scale version of the same plane by Trumpeter.

I have begun work on the second build for this project, the trumpeter 109 F-4(1/32 scale). Typical of trumpeter kits, there are tons of detail that will never be seen if you close everything up as most of us do. They have a quite complete engine and cockpit, and even a fuel tank that goes behind the cockpit. All that being said, I did build the engine as that is the only way to mount the exhausts, but still decided to close everything up. The instrument panel is molded in clear plastic with a decal to place on top for the gauges and dials. I didn't think that this would work too well, but after a bit of paint, a torn decal to fix and a generous application of solvaset, it looks ok, but not quite like the panels in the G or the E, so I wonder if there is a bit of creative license at work here. Here are the pictures that I have so far: Thanks for looking,

K-4 in mid build. Started it last week and am waiting for the decals I ordered. They were lost in shipment for over a week and with today being Presidents day I likely won't get them until tomorrow .. Have a 1/48 Hobby Boss 262A1 I'm working on until they get here. Here is where it is so far.

handiabled - awesome job with this Emil based in Libya!   The red detail on the land gear really stands out, great stuff! Yes

Matt - super work on Priller's Emil.   As said before, the mottling on the wing surface really stands out from the norm, makes it that much more interesting. Yes

70 - uber mottle on the fuselage, very nice overall!  I can't remember if this was an official entry to the group build or not, but will give you a thumbs up just the same Yes

------------------

Again guys, great work on all these updates! Yes

regards,

Jack

After fighting the G6 all the way to competion decided to try a less ambitous build, the 1/32 Edward BF109E-3. Aside from not being able to use the engine and have a removable cowl that fits, this was a fun kit. Painted it in stages just like they would have back in the day. Turned out pretty nice overall. Finished this one about a week and a half ago.
