A lot of great work being done (and shown) here!  I'm hoping that my 109 will turn out as beautiful as the rest of these.  I also have to admit, this being my first Luftwaffe aircraft, that I am now hooked and want to build several more!  I'll be keeping my eye out for other GB's of these aircraft!

Matt, sorry about the issue with the legs... Hey, they were notoriously weak even on the real ones! Lol... The kit that I like to build ( 32nd Match box) are extremely weak, and I usually just go ahead and reinforce during the assy process. Shoot, I normally do any 109 or 190 at assy. They both have a odd stance. Good recovery with the Brassin.

For the G-6, luckily for me, I had the Brassin landing gear for another build on hand so I was able to use these to fix this aircraft. Here is a close-up of what was left of the landing gear after the break. Here are the pre-shading pictures for the E-3, I am happy with the way that the RLM 65 went down. Thanks for looking and all comments welcome.

Is it too late to jump in here? I was looking at a 109T-0 and a 2 seater!

Yes sir, straight Black (MM Acrylic flat black), then drybrushed with MM metalizer Aluminium followed with oil washes of raw umber and a yellow tint (cant recall the name now) to add some depth.  I am still toying with the Idea of finishing the rest of it and figuring some way to display it,  only drawback is that the bottom is completely inaccurate as there are no heads or any othe detail for that matter.  Maybe have it stitting in a crate?

Bish

matt, I think that should be addressed to Doug. I am building an engine, he has just finished the E.

Right you are sir, too many posts to keep track of,  I will say that your engine looks impressive, might have to build one someday.

Doug - your E is Sweet!!!

Wow, some real amazing work being posted here.  Hard to keep up.

Bish - outstanding, hope my E looks as nice when I am done!

Jay - nice belts and interesting scheme.

John - hard to believe that is 1-72 until you put your hand in the pic, looking good.

Small update from my workbench,  will post pics later on tonight since I cannot access PB at work.  I was adding the final oil washes to my G6 (yellow 2, F. Steigler) and set her down, must have pressed down too hard as both main gear collapsed and broke off.  looked at drilling holes for wires and re-gluing, but also had a set of the Eduard Brassin landing gear on hand so spent several hours drilling and filing out the mounting locations for the new legs.

Also, began working on the Eduard E-3 for this GB, determined that I will be painting it as yellow 1 (Priller's mount from the Fall of '40) and discovered a kit that I really enjoy building.  Cockpit went together without a hitch, has been primed, painted, detailed and assembled.  Decided not to display the engine, although I built it up a bit anyway, but will have all the cowlings closed on this one.  Liked it so much I ordered another one!  Was on a roll two weekends ago and was able to get the everything closed up and the wings / tail planes assembled.  Only real problem area is the oil cooler / radiator under the nose, as my fuselage parts were a bit warped and i ended up with a bit of seam that is nasty there.  I am taking notes on this one for the next build as well.

Anyway, was able to prime, paint the yellow nose and rudder, and preshade last night, and was also able to get the bottom painted RLM 65.  WIll post pics tonight!

Take care.

Thanks Lawdog! The kit is the Revell 1/32 G-6. Overall it seems to be a pretty decent kit. The kit gives you the option of building the early or late model, different canopies, different rudders, etc. This is my first 109 and so far I'm enjoying it. The only thing that I wish this kit had since it is such large scale is a detailed engine. With all of the separate engine panels it would be cool to have the ability to leave off some panels so you can see inside.

John, excellent result. Really nice work. Added the exhaust  stains with gouache water color paint sprayed at 3-4 psi. I like using gouache because you still get the sprayed on look, but if you mess up it comes right off with water like pigments.

And thanks everyone for the kind comments previously and my itty bitty plane. Smile

I got to the detail painting on the -D today, pretty much down to final assembly. My next job is unmask the canopy, and I'm a bit anxious to see if the paint will peel as it did on my Stuka last year. I washed the canopy after masking to remove skin oils, so hopefully the paint will have got a decent bite...

Fightnjoe...That 'pit looks fantastic.

Bish....Great start.  I like that stand too.

Tom....Nice airbrush work, very convincing.

Lee....very cool.  Nice gloss coat too.  I've never seen an Orange 109 before..

Tucohoward...one of the best seat belt hanging jobs I've ever seen..well done..

Jelliot:  That chute looks cool, That's nicely detailed for a stock 'pit.  What kit is that G-6 (sorry if I missed it).

Rigid....consider me sold..I see Spruebrothers carries them.  Too bad they're always out of stock whenever I show any remote interest in something they normally carry..Bang Head

Okay, I've got started on the pit for my 109G-6, I didn't order any AM enhancements for this build, but I have decided to scratchbuild some minor components myself.  Here are a couple of shots.

I painted the interior with RLM 66 and then dry-brushed some areas using a combination of MM metallic chrome and Testors aluminum.  I then applied a coat of Alclad Aqua Gloss and finished with a wash of burnt umber.  I used a folded up piece of tissue brushed with 50/50 white glue/water for the chute/seat pad and the seat belts are strips of lead foil from a bottle of wine the wife and I shared.Toast

Tom... Great look on the paint, and you hit the nail on the head, too little thinner it spits, too much it runs. You got it dead on! Its going to look great!

Doug

Thanks, Doug. I'm pretty happy with it. No major painting disasters, ie spilled cup in the build, major splatters requiring a redo, puddles, spiders, etc. I always worry about that. You know, spend 75 hours getting to the paint and then Argggh! Pollyscale is pretty good, but really tricky with the AB I am using for the camo. I was mixing it thin with distilled water and alcohol, pretty thin, and still had clog issues. I got an Iwata custom micron, which is outstanding, but needs even finer paint than that in my opinion. Next build I will try out Gunze. I think it's the finest pigment around right now?
Pretty amazing job there, Jay. Especially with the handmade rivets. Really nice.
I've not seen that scheme Lee. I look forward to the result.
