That's a neat procedure the your second paragraph. Definitely want to try that one.

Bish - great job  on the Daimler engine.

Showcased on the stand like that reminds me a lot of those 1/4 scale car engine kits that had clear parts and worked on a battery - imagine it would be cool to see some aircraft kits similar to that.

Thanks jack. Ye, that would be neat. I think I am right in saying that Airfix does a motor for their large 24th scale kits.

Didn't get a lot done this weekend, but the fiddly bits always seem to take forever. Did get the antenna made from a Mountain Dew can that I have been using for many years, installed the gun barrels, painted and weathered the canopy and a few other little things. Not too much left to do.

LOLOL... I'll bet you can make an absolute butt load of antennas from an old soda can! Great idea! For years I've been using an old tin pan cover (lasagna tray) that was about 12x18 in and have barely put a dent in it. Lolol... shes going to be a beauty Jay, and again, your paint work is top notch!

Bish. Yes, Airfix does have a little motor for their 1/24. They are less than 10 dollars (3.49 pounds) When I ever get around to the Tiffy, I plan on using one for that.

Thanks a lot guys! Doug, nice work on the F so far. I  always heard the 21st Century 109s were actually pretty good, and certainly a real value. At one time you could pick those up for under $10. In fact I do have a G-14 in the stash I will have to take a look at. Filling the plugs for the screw holes won't be much of an issue for a man like yourself.

Tom, I did think about getting one for my Stuka. But I do fancy having the engine panels off with the engine on show. But not really decided yet.

Yeah Jay, no complaints so far... Its just a bit odd building this styly of kit, but so far a great build and absolutely no fit issues at all! Any way, here are the screw holes plugged and puttied, after a rough sanding, a bit of primer should show how much more to do.

The third plug (up front) it pushed in a tad too far but no problem...

And the tail is attached.

Well like I thought, the putty shrunk a bit, Just a good buffing down and another coat og primer should do it. PS, I'm still learning how to use rivet tool, I promise I'll try to do better the next time.

That rivet tool is a must have for the bench. Where oh where did you get it Doug?

These were Excell (?) Brand and they were ordered through Amazon. They came as a 3 piece set . Other options are available, and these are actually known as "pounce wheels" and are used to mark patterns on wood plastic and such through a patterns, they also work very well as riviting tools. It will take a bit of getting used to the feel and the handeling of them but they beat the soup out of the Trumpeter tool. These are aluminum  and the trumpeter tool Iis plastic and is iffy at best.

Bish, the engine is great, and the contrast in sizes adds to the effect.

And we get chocolates on this GB? I would have started earlier if I knew that.

Mike I like the group build in a group build. the painting is progressing well.

For the G-2 trop, I have sprayed the interior and done a small amount of detail painting.

There was a small amount added to the side wall to busy it up. And some more work remains for the instrument panel.

Thanks Lostagain...no complaints at all thus far. I'm really impressed with the engineering that went into this particular kit. Only small gripe I have (and its minor) is that its not an F fuselage , it more resembles a G. As I said, minor. Love your avatar by the way, one of the funniest Mel Brooks movies ever made.

Still working on the little things. Antenna wire, exhaust stains, landing gear indicators. Went fairly light on exhaust stains, sprayed on with gouache water colors. Getting there.

Bish, I was hoping to do Black 6 as at Duxford - but I may need to stencil out the "6" as I don't have a decal and can't locate anything suitable shape on the net. But I may be able to pick up something at the local model expo in June, or paint on clear decal film

Lostagain -- the typestyle for that numeral 6 looks very much like the turret numbers produced by Archer Fine Decals for armour, there may be something in their range that's close enough to do. Also, Hasegawa produced a kit of Black 6 so there may be a sheet out there (1:48th) to be had...

I got this exhaust stain method from David Parker, the editor of Air Modeller and AFV Modeller magazines, and an amazing modeller. He didn't really say how he did it so it took a little playing around to get it right. Gouache water colors come in tubes and are cheap and available at any art supply store. Mix with water to a thickness that you can spray it without it beading up like plain water does. Spray at a very low pressure, 5 psi or less and build it up very slowly. I use a black/brown mix. Very flat like pastels, but they tend to look brushed on, not sprayed on like the real stains would occur. The best part though is that if you mess it up, you can just wipe it off with a wet Q-tip or paper towel. Will tolerate some handling, but not a whole lot, which is why I do it late in build these days, but as I said, if you need to do it over it's easy. I keep some in a plastic condiment cup and even if it dries out, you can just add a little water and reconstitute it. BTW those little plastic condiment cups with lids are great for all kinds of modelling stuff.

I'm very sorry for not giving you the attention you deserve, but my life is just a mess right now. Because of that I'm sadly no longer able to be Joe's co-host for this GB. I'll still have a look in here whenever I can and I hope I can continue work on my 109s I entered, but I honestly can't say when things are going to get better for me.
