2015 Messerschmitt Bf 109 Group Build

Greetings everyone!!  I know its been awhile since I've been around, life has started to get crazy for me this year.  Lots of travel for work and not much time at the bench.  Fortunately, I was able to get a little bit of time in lately and got some more work done on the G-6 so I'd thought I'd show you where I'm at with it.

I've got a little more to do, some minor touch-up on some paint spots and some more decals, then I'll be giving it a light weathering and adding the main canopy and the wheels.

Man that looks great jelliott!!! Your mottle effect is right on. Good ol' Karaya 1 I see. The mount of an aerial champion.

Nice looking build jelliot. Was wondering if we would see one of Hartmann's mounts. Nice choice.

Alright ... A bit more from me...

The only minor fit issue I've ran into so far, There is a small gap at the wing root on both sides. A dab of putty will do just fine.

Lots of detail on the underside too.

Tires and wheels look nice... Although there are some pronounced pin marking on the doors, No big deal, after a bit of light cleaning, the gear legs hide 99% of it.

and the pin marks don't show... Well that's all for now, I will start preshading later and try to atleast get the underside done tomorrow...

Here's what I've been working on guys. A CH 1/32 E-4. I had wanted to wait until all done, with a diorama, until I posted pics but that's not really WIP! It has been a really fun build so far. Some weathering, a few more decals (stencils) and other tid bits and she'll be complete. Oh, and the diorama...

Panzer... Your 109 looks great! I'm a big fan of the "Es" and its variants. And in general the 109 period. I mean, you have at least 33,000 give or take different 109s to choose from when modeling one, and on the Axis side one of the meanest looking (and deadliest) in the arsenal. Looking forward to the finish and the dio.

The rivets were about 50/50, there were many already on the kit to begin with, but sadly lacking in some areas. I ran across a good buy on a 3 piece set of EXCELL brand pounce wheel tools which do an amazing job as a rivet making tool, Please forgive though, some of the uneven lines are my fault not the tool. I'm still trying to figure out a good way to hold the part being marked while being accurate with the tool.

Using tape to create a good straight line works well but trying to hold part while riveting on a curved surface is difficult at best. I'm still trying though...

Here are the tools I bought. They were sourced from Amazon.com and there were other options available. When the package arrived They added a web site and phone # . Not sure if that's for the Excel (Mfg.) or the store they came from. They were just shy of 15bucks, and as I mentioned , other types and quantities were shown. I just chose this set because it looked like it would cover about any of my needs. These tools are actually used to transfer patterns to plastic, wood and such for cutting without having to draw the shape on the material to be cut.

Thanks for the info, Doug. Those do look very handy. I didn't know they made so many different sizes either. I'll have to look into that. They certainly do add a nice touch.

I know some guys use that DYMO embossing label tape (the old time click label maker tape) to do help with panel lines. I wonder if that would help with the rivets? Though yeah, curves and bends would be hard.

Thanks guys, glad to try and help... I've in the past also taken a wire gauge (micro bit) and chucked it in a pin vise to where only the very nub of the end protruded and pressed it to the piece and gave it a twist. it made a great looking rivet but took FOREVER to insure a straight line and an even placement. I prefer the pounce wheels... lol...

Well heres a bit more, I've got the pre-shading done and have some of the color coat on. Sorry but at this point I tend to get ahead of my self and at times forget to take pictures.

That's about it for today. Tomorrow I hope to have the RLM 81(Brown Violet) and 82 (Dark Green) applied. Have a good evening all!

Oh yeah!!!! Nice work!! I wished I could build only half as fast as you do with the great results. It's probably a good thing I'm a slow poke because I'd run out of display space.

Thanks Guys... Yup, shes moving along now... But I still find myself taking longer to detail and weather then the actual build took. I guess that's normal though. I got this done yesterday but the &%@# internet was so Efed up yesterday it would have taken all day to post... Soooo here they are now...

 I'm going with the Mediterranean 81/82 scheme. That will be the Brown/Violet and Medium Green. I kind of forgot that doing a camo like this over pre-shading was going to be a bit more difficult but I think it will come out OK.

The underside pale grey will also come part way up the sides...

OK, got the Green on...

 And the Med Campaign band and clear coat.

Well like Bish might say, I'm pretty chuffed with it! So far so good, I think I may have been able to have gotten away with using 79 sand gelb instead of the 81, but the scheme did call for 81. It darkened considerably with the clear coat But I think after the decals are applied, I should be able to fade it some and lighten it up a bit. Any way... Soon as this sets for a day or so... DECALS!!! (yay) Take care all!

Been kind of sidetracked reading my JaPo 109K-4 book, finding out all the things I got wrong.  If JaPo makes a book on anything you are interested in do yourself a favor and get it. Roll Models is the US distributor. Unfortunately the K-4 book is long OOP and very expensive if you can find it. Very happy with the purchase, just wish I had got it while still in print. I have their G-10 Over Czech Territory book as well and it's fantastic also, and still in print. At this point the only change I might make is the landing gear leg color. According to the book they were usually 66 and mine are currently 76. If I decide not to change it I will just count on you guys to make it our secret. I managed to make the DF loop the exact size to make the antenna wire hit it whether I tried to go under it or over it. Drew it down a bit to go under as I found photographic evidence to back that up.
