And here I was wondering if the 109 GB was all set to kick off in a couple of weeks, and the thread's five pages along already!

Mustang, I'll post a pic tomorrow of my starting entries!

Cheers, can't wait to get going!

Oh, there's something I wanted to tell you guys:

Please don't PM Joe if you want to participate. He can't edit the build list, which means he has to send me a PM that you sent him one and then I have to add you.

Just post your entry here and I'll get you added to the build list. It's a lot less work for all of us that way Wink

Midnight: Consider yourself added Wink Joe can't do anything regarding the roster since he can't edit my posts. I've been kinda busy lately, so sorry for the delay in adding you.

To Doug.  I know exactly how you feel. Sorry for your loss. I also took some advice from my earlier post about swastikas.  I did order a set of Aeromaster swastika decals  from Sprue Brothers and I also ordered some wheels made by Aires.  I'm looking forward to getting started on this build and learning something.

Good choice in paints. I aint had any problem with 'em yet. Either way on your 109 sounds killer!

I decided to try the Vallejo Model Air.  Used them for the first time on my Bf 110G-4 and they spray very nice.  Love them.  No thinning needed.  Give a great covering.  Will be using them on this GB.  I have yet to decide weather I will go with a Condor Legion Bf 109D or go with a nachtjager, all black Bf 109D.

I'm going to use Gunze acrylics for my build. They just spray so nicely and I think their RLM colors look pretty good (no expert on that subject though)...

Doug: I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. I can only imagine how you must be feeling.

Our gracious host................ha ha ha! Thanks for the vote of confidence Nathan. I haven't had much trouble out of the specific colors but then again I've had the same bottles now for 3 years. Maybe a different batch or ingredient change along the way?

Craig- I don't use Vallejo but I've read some of their Normal primary colors are actually better matches than their specific RLM made colors. Example being their generic dark green is a better match than their own RLM 70 or 71. Our gracious host uses these paints so he can set the record straight I'm sure..Bow Down

While we are on the subject of paint, what do people think of Vallejo Model Air paints?  I have the 16 bottle set of RLM colors I plan using for my 109.  I've used the clear matte finish on another model and I really like the way it went on and the flat finish it provided.  Are the RLM VMA colors accurate?  Thanks.

Hi Tom,

That is always my # 1 headache.

I guess that 50% of my "waiting to be built" stash is sitting there since I can not decide on the mix...

But I am getting braver with age and less accurate eyesight, I feel that I can get away with it now :)

I am also using mainly Tamiya and usually rely on this chart: adding a few drops of X-22 Clear.

I only use Xtracolour for aircraft. But there are a couple of colours I have problems with Their RLM 81 is now a green colour rather than the brown violet it used to be. And they don't do RLM 71. Fortunately none of that matters for this build.

Ok, folks. There is lots discussion on kits here that we will be building. What about paints and other stuff you will be using? What is your favorite RLM paint? What was your experience when using them? This may be more befitting for the paint forum, however very pertinent to this GB...

My last 109 was painted with MM enamels, mixed with testors enamel thinner. I found the colors very accurate and I like the sheen. However, for mottling especially, they are very exacting and time consuming with thinner ratio. More so than with acrylics I have used. Nonetheless, I will be using them again, for at least one build. From there, I plan on trying Mr. Color, mixed with Mr. Color leveling thinner.

For Tamiya folks, I found this mix recommendation:

RLM 02:- XF22:1 + XF49:1

RLM 65:- XF23:1 + XF2:1

RLM 70: XF27

RLM 71:- XF62:1 + XF49:1

RLM 74:- XF24:3 + XF27:2

RLM 75:- XF24:5 + XF50:1

RLM 76:- XF2:7 + XF23:1 + XF66:2

RLM 79:- XF59:3 + XF64:1

RLM 80:- XF58

RLM 81:- XF51:1 + XF64:2

RLM 82:- XF5 or XF5:1 + XF2:1 or XF5:1 +XF3:1 (Bright Green)

RLM 83:- XF61 or XF24:1 + XF51:1 (Dark Green)

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

You have my family's sympathies for the loss of your family member.  I have been there and I know that it is not easy.  But try to take comfort in knowing that the pain is over and your loved one has crossed over the rainbow bridge.

Morning all... Please allow me just a small space here, I'm little bummed this morning, Many of you who have known me for awhile and those of us that have Emailed outside the Forums share other then modeling info, and most know of personal little things that just make you all friends. Well this morning I lost one of my closest companions and a loving friend of 18yrs10mo. We knew it was coming and tried to prepare, but its still not easy. This is a picture of her just before the brief illness that took her from us. Thanks again guys.
