Here's what I'll be building. Decals include markings for September 1940 and December 1940. Since the figure doesn't seem to be wearing winter gear I'm going to go with the September markings.

On the bench

1:48 Testors SPAD XIII

1:48 Revell P-47D Razorback

1:48 Hasegawa Bf 109E Galland

Hey Jay. I certainly appreciate the offer for the decalsYes but I do have something in mind. I'll be going with "Yellow 2" flown by Franz Stigler. I'm sure you've probably read the book , "A Higher Call" by now. It's a great story and takes a while to go over but You Tube has a small video that sums everything up if you type in A Higher Call in the search criteria. Anyways I have a decal sheet from Kits World that also has decals for the B-17 "Ye Olde Pub".

If you guys don't have it , this pic depicting Stiglers encounter with "Ye Olde Pub"  below makes for some awesome wall paper:

I am working on a Gustav right now (the new RoG kit) that I started at the begining of the year, that will be in these markings.  I wish that there was an AM decal sheet for this one in 1/32 scale, I have had to use 3 different sheets for the markings, I hope that my version turns out, am going to start on the decals tonight.

Thanks guys,  I can pass along a few notes about areas that I found "lacking" with the new Revell kit.  I would have to say that the next one that I build (i bought 2 since they were cheap) will have the Eduard Brassin landing gear, as the kit ones are flimsy and over engineered.  You end up assembling each strut from 5 seperate pieces which leaves seams where they are hard to get to and in my case one is already in need of re-glueing.  I also found that the method of attachment, while more true to the actual aircraft, is a bit more tricky to get a tight fight and the correct angles, which has resulted in my example being left wing low while sitting on the table.

I also would go with an aftermarket prop and spinner just to avoid the nasty seam and strange prop assembly technique.  I will post some pics of the instructions to explain this more.  If you google reviews on the kit you will see that these are some of the more glaring errors.

All in all though it looks like a Gustav, matches up well with the 1/32 scale line drawings that I have and hasn't been too much of a challenge to build.

On another note, I sourced all my reference books on amazon, found some great books on that site.

Good luck with that Matt. My experience with that kit wasn't great. First kit in a very long time that I chucked in the trash in the middle of a build. No fun at all. Did like their G-10 though. I would go with the Hasegawa G's every day and twice on Sunday. The Hasegawa kits are going really low on ebay right now. Picked up another three in the $30-33 range.

JW here.(jubya70) I have a question? My 1/48 Monogram bf109 kit does not have swastikas on the tail. I think the decals are of jg300. Blue and white bands on the tail end of the fuselage before the tail. Has anyone seen this before? I have yet to see a 109 without swastikas. Any reference would be greatly appreciated. The thank you.

Revell kits don't offer those buddy. Sad . You'll have to go AM with those. What color is the band?

The swastika was required to be displayed. There were some planes , late in the war, where guys painted over them as part of the 'fighter pilots revolt:. This, after goering accused the overstretched and worn out pilots of cowardice.

JG 300 sometime after mid December '44. I have tons of spares if you need as I'm sure others here have as well.

The bands indicate a unit assigned to Defence of the Reich. As Nathan says, this one is JG 300.

SchattenSpartan,

I don't see my name on the listing.  You can reference a post a few pages back for the kits that I will be building.

Thanks,

<Matt

Matt: Sorry 'bout that. I completely missed your post. Your name and both the kits are on the build list now Smile

cbaltrin: I got you added to the list as well, welcome aboard!

Jubya: JG 300 is a very interesting unit regarding the paintjobs on their aircraft. They had some really nice field-applied camo patterns on their aircraft.
The swastikas are missing in your kit because Revell/Monogram don't put them on their decal sheets. Revell is a German company and in Germany it's forbidden to include swastikas with model kits.

Joe: Some really nice looking pictures! Thanks for posting them!
