Theuns
I was pretty pleased with my engine untill I saw you guys had made and installed the HT plug leads witch I didn't have....so I have to make those and fing very thin solder wire to make the engine's alluminium pipes aswell.

The piping and upper plugs are seen, but don't go too crazy with the lower plugs, you can't really see them when the engine is in its mount.

Here is where I'm at. I'm ready to spray a black primer then the wings and horizontal stab the lacquer silver. The blue on the nose and after will come the Alclad.
The cowling is loose since it will be removed on the display base.

Very cool work going on here :-)

I have been a tad quiert ...we moved house and now settling in and I dont have time off this year at work. I have killer deadlines on the plane I am working on so modling suffers a little LOL.

I do need to get to the mustprang soon as I need it for the MOY end of Jan.

Steve- Hey man sorry for the absence there for a bit. Mustang turned out great and the color is awesome! Really similar to a 65 fastback that roams around my neighborhood every once in a while. Its just a stock 'stang and doesn't have the stripes either. :(

Larry,

I can't seem to find any either. Even a Czech store has it as a special order. The conversion may not be hard to scratch.

All,

I hope everyone is enjoying the Holiday season. I recently (as in yesterday Smile ) received an ICM P-51D. I already have to P-51D's on my build list and Kits-World just released decals for Shady Lady, a F-6D, so I think I'd like to do the model as an F-6D. I've done some searching and I know that both QuicBoost and Lone Star once had conversion kits in 1:48 scale. All of my usual sources (Sprue Borthers, UltraCast, Hannants, eBay) seem to be fresh out of both. There's a lot of wisdom in this group; can anyone point me to a source that would give me dimensions for scratchbuilding the necessary bits or does someone have one of the conversion kits stashed away that they'd be willing to part with?

Best to all,
Larry

Steve, great job on the GT 350. Looks like with a set of plates and an inspection sticker you could drive it down the road.

Radial9, good luck with the wheel wells. I've found with situations like that, if you just keep hammering away at it, you'll eventually find a way to make it work.

George, your Old Crow D looks great.

Best to all,

Larry

Thanks Steve and Larry! I appreciate your help and input!

Merry Christmas everybody!

I tried like heck to get this done before the kids and grandkids show up but came up a little short. Time for a Christmas breakBig Smile. I am liking the way this is progressing. Alclad is a pain but I like how it is looking. I am now trying to decide if I want to keep it lightly weathered with just panel line wash or give it a little more "combat" wear. I am leaning toward keeping it pretty clean and shiny. Your opinions are highly welcome! I will pick it up again next week when the dust settles.

Best Regards,

George

Is the AM wheel well set for the Tamiya kit?

It is... turning into a major PITA.. I'll get through it. (Valuable Growth Opportunity)

Finally have some time to get an update in. Running into issues getting the Vector wheel well to fit. This is the second resin part. I sanded right through the first one, sent for a 2nd. I sanded both both bottom and top wings flat and sanded the well right down to paper thin. The wings will still not close when dry fitted. Did make progress on the Hamilton propeller and have the gears and wheels done with some PE on them. No photo.

Merry Christmas all!

Well check it out, I finally finished one for my own group build. Although I must admit, I thought the first build I would finish for this GB would have 3 wheels instead of four.
I built it for my son-in-law's Christmas present.
Here it is, the Mustang Shelby GT 350.

Cody, pic #5 can go on the wall iffin you don't mind.

This is where I'm at on the GT 350. The decals are going on and after those are complete, add a coat of gloss and attach the bumpers. Not much of a car guy but it seems the correct sequence.

Just...wow. I wouldn't have had the patience to paint that checkered pattern on the tail. Of course I'm still learning. But all that aside awesome work.

I agree. Even though I'm very new to model building I tried this all Clad to Chrome and yes it can be a pain in the butt it's very easy to mess up. While I still have quite a bit of it left and I do intend to use it I also invested in the extreme metal chrome from AK interactive. It's much easier to use and gets an excellent result. It requires no glass black undercoat and is extremely durable. And it coats very well. Effective seen quite a few products from them that I think I'm going to invest in.

In between bouts of Christmas shopping, I'm making progress on my P-51B.

The decals are all on and I’ve done some basic weathering. I want to try using a silver PrismaColor pencil to add some chipping. The few photos that I’ve seen of Ill Wind show some fairly significant chipping. I’ve never tried this technique before, so I think I’ll be practicing on the old Monogram kit that this build is meant to replace.

Best to all,
Larry

Sorry about the delayed response crazy. Been away from the forum. Here is the list of my entries. A 1966 Shelby GT 350 Hertz paired with a 2008 Ford Mustang GT Hertz, in 1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra paired with a 1997 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra, and finally Steve McQueen's 1968 Mustang Bullitt paired with the limited edition 2006 Ford Mustang Bullitt. I currently have four of the six here and one on the way and I'll be picking up the 2006 Bullitt when I make a little more progress on what I'm currently working on.

O, great start on your build. Look forward to seeing the final product.

I’ve started applying decals to my P-51B. The Kits-World decals are some of the best that I’ve ever used. Most of the major markings are on at this point and I’m working my way through all the tiny stencils from a SuperScale P-51B set. I hadn't noticed until I took this pic, but it looks like it's time to change the filters in my spray booth.

Hey O welcome aboard.
I updated the roster. Nice start and that is going together fast. I have 2 ponies at that stage and just kinda stalled there. After I finish the car I'll finish both planes during Christmas break.
Now we were told we will have to take 3 weeks off. Oh well at least I'll finish some backlogged builds and get caught up for next year.

A Mustang tattoo? That's interesting. I'm not into tattoos but that would be cool.

Hey FSM,

I haven't mashed any plastic in a long while, so I thought I'd jump in on this GB with a quick build.

I was originally gonna jump in with a 1/48 Tamiya Mustang, but I've decided to try to get back into building with a 1/48 Hobby Boss Easy Assembly kit.

The kit doesn't have a lot of detail and goes together pretty quick.  I started with the cockpit.  It's out of the box, except for some Tamyia tape seat belts.

Once that was done, the fuselasge halves were ready to go together.  The instructions have the builder install the tailwheel before closing up the fuselage.  The tailwheel is pretty fragile, so I wanted to install it later in the build.  In order to do that, I had to think of a why to get the tailwheel in later, instead of trapping it between the fuselage pieces.

So, I opened up the mounting holes slide the tailwheel as one of the last steps.

Right now, I'm at the point of prepping the plastic for paint.  I've decided on the OD over natural metal look of a 55th FG, and I've started off with Alclad's white primer.  I've got the front half of the kit covered with its first coat.  I corrected a few mistakes and did some light sanding.  Next will be to completely cover the plastic with some more white primer before shooting the Alclad.

So, Christmas break is right around the corner, and I'll have some time to spend at my bench.  I hope to get this done before I have to back to school on Jan. 4th.  Feel free to share your comments and/or criticisms.

Thanks for lookin'!

-O

PS.  I know tattoos aren't everyone's thing, but I've recently had an aviation themed tattoo started.  And it happens to be Mustang based!  If you're interested in seeing a pic or two, let me know.  I'd be happy to share.  Cheers!

-It's Omar, but they call me "O".
