Hi Rick,

It looks like it is coming along great! To answer your question: The underwing identification lights, from front to back are Red, Green, Amber. The wingtip position lights would be a tinted cover over a bulb essentially, so a clear paint would be best in my opinion. When I do them I also put a tiny dab of silver down first to give a representation of the bulb itself. I hope that helps and I would encourage others to weigh in if I am off the mark, pleaseSmile.

Sounds right to me George, thanks. In fact I wasn't sure about the colors or order of the ident lights.

This was shot in Noir as color made it too brite, too much "BLING"!  After looking at it, it actually shoots better this way I hope you enjoy the build.

Sorry to have been away for so long; work stuff and setting things up in the house have taken up all my free time.

Some great work in here.

Great work George, like how that office came out.

Rick - very nice job on the paint; almost there!

Toshi - My first build when I came back to the hobby after 30+ years was also a P-51D (Revell). Great start so far, and great photography. Goodness you made some great progress over the last 6 pages :)  Congrats on the finish!

Theuns - very nice job so far.

Larry - Look forward to that build; office looks great.

Joe - Good work; I like how much light you get on your workbench.

I am waiting to set up my paint booth in order to progress my build. Will post some WIP pics this weekend I hope

Cheers,

James

After taking a break for the Weekend Madness GB I was able to make some progress on the Mustang.
This is what I have so far after joining the fuse half’s. I found that most of the detailing I did to the engine is hidden. Oh well, at least I know they’re there.
I am missing one part though, V11. It is part of the lower bracing under the engine intake air scoop. I was painting it last night, holding it with tweezers. I looked up as my wife asked me something and PING! The part goes flying and I heard it hit something to my right. After an exhaustive search I couldn't find it. I still have plenty of time to find it. The way the diorama is laid out, I can install it last if needed.

Arrow pointing to missing part

Thanks James! I appreciate the compliment! I do have a favor to ask you and others though. I think that the Haswgawa kit I chose is a bit challenging because I needed to drop the flaps (first time trying that) and that was not an option like the Tamiya kit. So, I have begun the surgery and bought some resin flaps. I wanted to get feedback on if you think I am heading in the right direction and if you think that I should attach the flaps before I prime, or work with them seperately and add them at the end of the build? The reason I ask is that I think it would be easier to work with them seperately from a painting standpoint, but from a gluing and post-paint fit problem standpoint I am not sure if I should just glue them on now. I hope that makes sense...

Thanks!

George

Thanks rooster and James.

James, IMHO, I would attach them after paint. If you are going the putty'd wings route it may be easier.  If you're just going with three NMF then maybe not. That is a good question though.  I will have to take my own advice here and do the same.

Toshi - that noir look sure is nice! Great job on the build, too.

James - as for the flaps, I would definitely wait until after paint. I would do a lot of test fitting first, and maybe even white glue them in to see how they look (but only enough glue that you can pop them off after), but they look like if you test fit a lot, it shouldn't be a problem for the end of the build. I did that on both my Tamiya Mustangs I built for this group build, though obviously we are talking apples and oranges for the fit, as mine were kit parts with convenient tabs on them.
