Rick,

It looks great and you certainly can have a fun discussion on the name. I would leave it for sure. It shows originality and that is way cool!

Rick,

LOL, I thought you did that on purpose, in fact I thought "I never heard of a 51 called Amorous Len III, must be one of Chuck's squadron mates just messing with him" LOL! Love it, you should leave it like it is.

Folks it is all starting to really come together.

The last few days have been all about the little stuff and getting them and the interior ready for installation.

The attachment point for the radio antenna is done and attached to the seat.  Other than the gunsight, piece of crappy plastic it is, everything is ready for installation.

The landing gear, nose cone, prop blades, and other assorted misc parts are nearing completion.

The next step for me will be to get everything into the fuse and close it up.  My next update may well be the last until the article is given a yes or no.  All in all this has been interesting to say the least.

A brief rant.  To go along with the molded on flaps and rudder this piece that is to represent the gunsight is absolutely the worst attempt I have seen.  It resembles neither the D-9 sight nor the K-14 sight used in the Mustangs.  What a disappointment some of this has been.

Ah well........Onward.

All comments, critiques, and criticism are encouraged.

Ditto

I gave my Hase kit away I was so frustrated with it.

Been "away from the desk" a few months as the personal life shoved the model desk aside for a bit. I thought the build would be over, but what a nice surprise; that's not the case. Here are some update pics of getting the P51D going. This is my 3rd build. Might be over reaching to put in a custom wheel well, but WTH. Cut out the stock sides to make room, got a bit heavy handed with the piece. Will need some repair to the forward port wall.

Glad to see the GB going strong. Will post(and ask some typical rookie questions along the way) as progress permits.

Outstanding builds here gentlemen. As always!

Port fuselage wall. First custom office. LOTS of sanding, but the two sides of the fuselage "appear" to come together nicely now. Will make it permanent in the next couple of days.

Oh man! we still have a little over 8 months to go R9. As long as Cody can hang in there so can I. You have plenty of time.

For me it nearly hit the wall last night.  After getting everything in place and working to start to get the fuselage glued I had a major setback.  More about that in the next update.  Hopefully later this week.

Hey, all, Happy Thanksgiving!

Work has kept me away from the workbench except for a moment or two here and there. I have been trying to follow everyone else's builds - you guys do great work. I'm humbled to be part of this group build.

My B is almost ready for paint. I used Archer decals to add the missing fasteners on top of the nose and strip styrene to add missing wing detail. A little final sanding and cleaning and she'll be ready for a coat of Olive Drab over Neutral Gray.

The P51D Mustang is finished

The only boob boob I did , was the name of the plane .  Amorous Len 3 . I did not know there was to be a Gl and g in front of the name . They were not attach to the name . My lack of experience . So the name stays Amorous Len 3   .

Thanks, Pete. They are metal gun barrels. I made them from nested brass tubing.

Rick,
Very nice job on Len III. Looks great Yes. I updated the roster. It was great to have you onboard. The build still has 8 months to go if you wanted to jump in with anything Mustang (is there a Mustang helicopter?)
Cody will get with you to find out which picture you want on the wall.

For the badge, go to page 1 and copy (save picture as) to your computer. Then just add it to you signature line using you photo hosting site like you would post any other picture. If you want a larger badge let me know and I'll upload one for you.

Big progress to update.

The fuselage is closed, the wings are on.

That is the good news, the bad is I need to repair a ton of stuff as I had to use a major amount of force to be able to get the wing into place.  Blasted thing fought me the whole time.  I ended up removing a couple of parts, breaking some of the stringers off of the cut wing, splitting the fuselage, and assorted small stuff.  I also had a misfire with a clamp that made my one piece tail wheel assembly into a three piece assembly that I had to pin together again.

Good lord that was a lot of work to get the wing on.

After all that I commenced to touching up the painting of the fuselage with Gloss Gray and then Alclad Airframe Aluminium.

So here is where it stood at the beginning of my session today.

Today was spent working on the landing gear and more touch up on the fuselage.  Through the course of the upcoming week I will need to repair the wing and make sure all is good.

All comments, critiques, and criticism are encouraged.
