And, here's where I'll leave off for tonite. The engineering section and nacelles are not glued on yet to ease that massive decalling job pending...Indifferent

Rob,

That really slammed together fast., can't wait to see it with the decals. Hmmmm. I was starting to think about building the Defiant, but now I'm not so sure. Your NX-1 looks really nice.

Thanks guys. Got the base coat of IJN grey put down tonite. Gonna let that set up and start hitting panels with a lightened hue and then a darker grey will be put in many areas according to the plan. Sorta weird not painting a NX gun metal, but, she's the refit, so, it sorta makes sense. I've seen lots of pics of it in standard Federation livery, so, I'm convinced it's gonna look cool!

Afraid I don't know much about the NX refit but she looks pretty cool to me.

I've seen guys do both paint jobs: Gun metal and light grey, so, I'm going with the latter.

More progress tonite. Got some two tone going with some grey highlights. I did a faint light blue around the circumference of the outer rim of the main saucer section. Also, the first coat of clear on so I'll let that set up overnight.

So, this is what it's going to look like. The decals are a bit darker than I thought they'd be against the light grey, but, I suspect that's because they were originally designed to be put over the original NX gunmetal finish so they'd stand out. They are faint on the nacelles, so, I'm thinking it'll be the same on the saucer section. We'll see tonite:

Wow, this is tedious...here's after an hour+ of decaling...VERY tedious, but, I like the look...it's a bit 'out there' but it's not as bold as I thought. The imagery is kind of pixley (not a word, I know Embarrassed) so, it's quite transparent. I don't believe, at the end, you'll be able to tell the two tone I did prior to decalling, so, that was a waste of time, oh well Tongue Tied

Yikes, it does suck to cover up all the paint after you did all those panels but the decals are going to look really cool! I'm amazed they went down that well on the complex curves of the secondary hull!

She looks fantastic there Rob, if they all go down this well I'd say the money on the decals was well spent.

The decals are thick, for sure. I need to clean out all the panel lines at the end as it totally dries. My only regret was spending that time doing the pre painting two tone...totally lost under all that aztek'ing.

I'm done with the NX-01. Can't do anymore. Gotta say, those decals take a special amount of courage because they were bloody flimsy and thin and ripped at every turn. You really need to trim 'em down to the edges AND cut them into small manageable pieces. Big challenge, but, I'm somewhat happy with the results. I'll do another one with the lessons I learned from this one. Anyway, here she is, RIP Mr. Spock.

So, that's it for that. I'll grab a badge if nobody minds. I'll be starting my French Artillery piece tonight as well. As usual, thanks for lookin'!

I think she turned out pretty darn awesome! It would have been a royal pain to try to mask and paint all that.

Um, I suck at pictures (cell phone and bad lighting), but, I'd say the 3rd pic shows it best?
