68GT & Terry: Wow that's a bunch of wheels between you guys!
"I dream in fire but work in clay." -Arthur Machen
Steve I'm getting started on my Karl-Morser by Hasegawa in 1/72 with over 400 parts at about 16 inches in length. I'm not crazy about the rubber track and rail sections, and I found a little flash on two like sprues, but on closer look it won't be a big deal. I'll make my own rails, ties and base. Should be fun.

I got a little work done to the Testors M108. I have some Italeri tracks coming from HobbyLinc that I got a great deal on with their Italeri reduction sale.
On Ed's bench, ???
The one we had at section level in the South African DF was not the one with the bi-pod. it had a flexable baseplate that you ramed into the ground and a "bubble" sight with distance on it.You basically just held it in place
I recall the round going into the tube then there was a lanyard trigger at the bottom of the tube ....it did not go off simply by toutching the firing pin at the bottom.
I can also recall very clearly when I was a combat medic that we use to do night ops and when you got out of your armoured ambulance to support the troops who also de-bussed from their APC's doing close "clearing" of enemy posotions , we could hear the 120mm rounds comming over to land at the "enemy position" a few hunderd meters away.By then they were well on thier downward trajectory and you hoped the guys a few KM on the other side of the mountain got their maths right!!
The thing I diss-liked the most were the 120mm ilumination rounds - the damn tail sections that come off in flight would fall right where we were! I never got out without my cevlar helmet....wonder if it would have saved me from a hit of that tail section....
Thanx, I will go look for that dragon set aswell :-)
Theuns
Dragon did a support weapons team that included a 60mm mortar from WW2. Not sure it it's the type you fired.
regards,
Jack
Lol Tony, not sure I'll even get one built much less both!
BTW Steve, I'm still trying to finish up the two models I started for the twin 'Armour in the West' GBs, after that hopefully I get something done with the B-4.
Hey Jack, I was looking locally as I don't really do the online ordering thing. Now I know what to look for I can go canvas the shops, thanx.
Would be nice if someone made a 60mm mortar crew...I put a few rounds into the tube of one and really enjoyed it , granted it was a 60mm section Patroll mortar but still fun :-)

hi guys, sorry for the silence, forget there was a new thread started for this one. Good looking subjects all round, as well as progress, and already two completions!
Modelcrazy - cool project with the trebuchet. That has to be the most ancient piece I've seen yet entered into a GB (besides figures) - great stuff!
Rob - wonderful job with the Napoleonic artillery. That soft plastic is a real test, but you really pulled it off quite handedly.
Theuns - are you searching online or just locally for a mortar crew set? There are quite a few choices when googling, but I'm willing to bet the cheapest is this old Tamiya boxing:
Gam do the other one too.

Yup..a V2 certainly qualifies as a bombardment weapon...lookin forward to it Hogfanfs

On the Bench: Nothing on the go ATM
hogfanfsHey, Steve, would you consider a German V2 Rocket be acceptable for this GB?
ABSOLUTELY!
I'd love it!
Gamera,
I got your entry updated.
Steve
Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

On the bench: 1/48 Eduard MiG-21MF
1/35 Takom Merkava Mk.I
Tony: Looks good, that's some nice detail there!
So no other votes? If not I guess the Soviet B-4 is it then???
looks great Tony...that build in woodgrain is going to look epic...nice and textured.
Looking good Tony
Saturday Update:
Tracks assembled, front cap and fenders installed.
Tail lights should be behind lower bed panel not on the face of it. I shaved off the lights, drilled holes and installed the lights on the back side. No Big Deal but one of those little details you would expect to see in your minds eye. They're racing at Talladega, see ya later Tony lee

Those things are nuts! Man, the Russians didn't do anything small did they?
Thanks Steve!
Just screwing around on YouTube I found this. Too bad I don't understand Russian but some great footage of the 203mm howitzer between 6.10 and 8: 45.
PS: Weird- it's not embedding the video- not sure what I'm doing wrong. Using the 'Insert Video' tab and copying and pasting to it.
That's alright Gam. I'll update the front page when you decide which one your going with.
I'd go with the Soviet 203. That thing looks freaking wicked.
Terry: Now that's cool, gonna be huge even in 1/72nd I'd think.
Tony: Coming along very nicely there!
Steve: I hate to say it but I can't find the friggin' howitzer I was intending to build- I really need to organize my stash or better yet just get rid of some stuff. Anyway can I bother you to swap out my build for something else???
Not sure which I want to go with- just for the @#@# of it I'll toss out the two below and you guys can vote on which one I should build:
Steve these clips are amazing because I can't believe the camera person wouldn't jump at the concussion. I've seen another short clip of a Sturmtiger that was unbelievable. These surely are super weapons along with the K-5 and the Gustav, just devastating.
Thanks i'll save that. Terry
Who makes that mortar group figures? It might be interesting. All figures I can fine here are of anti tank groups in 1/35 :-(
Tony,
Like Terry said, those tracks look like they are worth the money.
Terry,
This is a 25 sec clip found.
Morser Karl firing
I would've loved to have seen one of those in action, Its hard to believe so much fire power from that platform. Have to watch for a release, thanks. Terry
Nice fit on those Tony, somethings are just worth the money.
Tracks came in this afternoon and one side assembled.
Have a good one Tony lee
Have a good one
jibber Rob if I could, would you change my build to a Hasegawa Karl-Morser in 1/72. I have several 1/72 pieces for a layout and i've been waiting to get this one completed. Terry

i have one of those in my Choo-Choo stash. now i don't have just stashes but topic specific stashes. Takom is coming out with a 1/35 german dual 128mm FLAK.

Sorry Steve, i've been out of commission for a bit, thanks for the change.
Yup..Steve, different shades of browns will look spectacular on that gun mount
I got you updated. Good, I won't be the only one building a 1/72 Karl. Gotta have something for the WR360 to tow around.
Rob,
That does sound like quite the process. I think I'll try your method, but use a brown instead of olive. W'e'll see how that turns out.
