Rob,

I got you posted on page 2. Nice job, especially since the plastic wasn't the best. I'll send you my figures from now on for you to take care of. The guns look great as well, beautiful weathering. The wood carriages look perfect. What did you use for the color? I'm scratching my head wondering what to uses for my 24 ponder's carriage. I know some were painted but mostly they look like they were left natural.

Steve

Steve, my carriages are painted. All the pics I saw and other modelers showed them painted, so, I got away with NO woodgraining. I preshaded the carriages with black in the nooks and crannies, then hit the whole thing with Olive green. I then did some spot post shading with a white added to Olive spray. I then drybrushed a darker olive in spots for highlights and then finished off with a two tone 'mudding' with red brown and dk brown. I oversprayed the whole thing again with Future, did a overall 'oil' wash, then finished off with enamel dull coat. VERY long process, but, necessary. I must say, too, that i did use a gun metal drybrush as well on all metal parts, especially the iron wheels.

Rob if I could, would you change my build to a Hasegawa Karl-Morser in 1/72.  I have several 1/72 pieces for a layout and i've been waiting to get this one completed.

Rob, fantastic work there, both the cannons and figures came out beautiful. And I had my doubts about the rubbery plastic! You knocked it out of the park!

This kit is done. the guns are good to go and the 5 x Artillerymen are ready. I, some day, may put these guys on a base, but, i'm in a state of moving right now, and, I don't want to build a base until after I move. So, yeah, for all intents and purposes, the kit is finished. I couldn't find fine enough chains for the guns, like I mentioned previously, but, perhaps I'll find some someday. Anyway, here's the set:

Moving on to another GB, so, thanks for lookin' at this and thanks for this excellent GB. Cheers!!

Yeah, Steve, she is certainly stumpy enough to be a mortar, eh? But, alas, she's a Gribeuval 'obusier' 6 pouce which in english is a 6" howitzer..found a great article here:

Those look sweet Rob.

I don't know anything about French artilery, but the short large caliber gun looks like a mortar and would be capable of firing air burst rounds.

I will probably be totally embarrassed by the actual answer though.

Well, here's the howitzer...now, this gun I like...it's friggin' cool how 'stumpy' this thing was. I believe it's a 6" howitzer, but, can't verify, but, that's the best I can come up with.

Got some progress in on this project this wknd. Because I'm moving soon, I've decided to dispense with doing the dio...I will do that sometime down the road, right now, I just want to get this set done.

Here's the howitzer...this will be done tonight.

Here's the figs, primed black first with Krylon and here they are with a light grey acrylic base coat (the other guys's there to show what they looked like at the beginning)

I got ONE fig done today...I hate him...but, what can you do Angry.......Anyway, here he is posed with his gun. I temporarily 'grassed' his base.

I'll post that howitzer and cannon together later on this eve.

The Gribeauval 12 pounder is coming quite well already. Hardly any parts so construction was light, just a few pieces. The barrel is painted with enamel brass and the rest is Tamiya (combination of Olive drab and lighter tones). The iron bands are Vallejo black and as it was historically said it rained a tremendous amount before the battle of Waterloo, I've muddied up the undercarriage and up the sides and wheels of the gun mount.

I'm going to look for some chains when I'm at the LHS on Sunday. The box art show chain draped on the front of the gun mount. I believe I've seen chain in the wooden ship section of the store, so, I'm hoping to get some. More updates later.

Rob S.

Yes, Gam, works great. Can's even scratch the paint off with my fingernail. Very impressed with the finish too. Now, I'm going to spray regular Tamiya acrylic over that now, AND, there may be a bad reaction..we'll see later tonite.

i prime EVERYTHING using gray ACE Hardware NOW. have painted MMA, Vallejo and Vallejo Air, PolyS, and Tamiya over it with no problem.

working on the breech assy, currently running wire for the firing circuits which is quite tedious. have some PE to finish the exhausts on the generator and figure how to rig the crane.

OK, I'm back on track. Krylon Fusion brand paint for plastic did the trick. It's formulated to stick to slippery plastic, especially this HDPE plastic. So, I'll use it as a primer then coat with a lighter colour to begin principle painting:

So, yeah, I thought I'd say 'to heck with it, let's see what Tamiya acrylic can do'.....yeah, wiped it off that soft plastic after first handling. Gotta get creative on this build. Gonna try to decant some Krylon paint and see what happens.

Rob,

Sounds like your in for some work, good luck with that. They will look awesome once your finished.

You may need both sets of guys. One for experimentation.

Ouch, good luck with those Rob! I picked up some figures with the same sort of plastic twenty or so years ago without knowing what they were. I hate the stuff, you can't sand off the seam lines and regular plastic cement won't work on it. I found that out when I got, yes duplicate figures too, and tried cutting the arms off and repositioning them.  Then on top of that they wouldn't hold paint, it wanted to flake off constantly!

You might use a very sharp new knife blade to shave the seams off and 'rubber bumper' paint as a primer. That's all I know, I've avoided these guys like a plague since then. Good luck sir!
