Owl, your Emil looks great! Which pic do you like for the front page?  Rob and Andy, I still need your pic choices for the front page.  As for me, the wings are together, and plan to shoot some RLM 02 for the pit as soon as  I clean my airbrush.  Keep up the good work y'all.

hmmmm, you can go ahead and use the last pic on that post. :)

Thanks lewbud.

CallSignOWL: Great work on your Bf109 and Zero.

Been lighting the blue on my Spitfire PRXIX, and started the free hand camouflage on the Mk. II. I'm using Tamiya Dark Green 2 (RAF), thinned more than usual, with about 5 to 8 PSI. It'll take two or three coats to darken the areas.

On my Work Bench: Tamiya Ford GT 1/24

CallSignOWL

I was able to finish up a couple of builds on the bench that now allow me to get crackin' on the Bf-109! Again, its an Airfix boxing. Im really digging their new line of kits!!

no aftermarket, just what's in the box.

The -109 received a black base and grey drybrushing, followed with a wash. The kit includes the option to have the engine displayed, and Im sure a bit of wiring would help detail this area to the brim! But for me, I simply gave it a black paint job, follwed with a drybrusing of steel. There are two little vents in the cowling that allow you to see inside, but not much is visible once the piece in in place.

Im building two kits alongside each other here...

paint!

gloss coat for decals!

Excellent work everyone, in the past day or two I have started airbrushing my two Spitfires.  I airbrushed Model Master primer on, then pre-shaded the panel lines with Tamiya X-1 Black, then Tamiya XF-21 Sky for the Mk.IIa, and a mix of Tamiya XF-18, XF-66 & XF-23 to make Humbrol's 230 PRU Blue for the PR.XIX.

On my Work Bench: Tamiya Ford GT 1/24

Great paintwork and the use of pastels on the Hurricane Rooster.

Rooster - great job on that Hurricane! And I love the markings, they're exactly the ones I would have chosen ;)

Seriously, you nailed this one. I think the paintwork is fantastic, and the repainted exhausts look great. The streaking is nice and realistic, too.

Rob, that Defiant came out perfect! Certainly looks like it's been around the block!

Scott, great to see you starting that Hurricane!

Well as for me I'm finially saying my Hurricane is done! This is the 2015 Airfix boxing. I painted with Tamiya acrylics, and the wash was done with artist oils. As promised I repainted the exhaust and I'm much happier with them now. After repainting I did some exhaust streaking with pastel chaulks, black and then added some gray along the centers. Now enough talk, time for pictures...

I apologize that they are not the best pics but I'm no photographerBig Smile

Lewbud thanks for putting on a great GB! I had a great time! I think I'll go with the last pic for the front page, looks like it's ready to scrambleBig Smile

Thanks for all the comments everybody and keep on building!

Talley Ho Lewbud, I'm back in action.  I was in a hobby store yesterday and they just got a shipment of new Airfix kits.  I picked up a Hurricane and to say the least, I am really impressed with the new tooling.  Looks like its going to be fun. I started preliminary painting on it last night.

Rooster - Oh man, that keeps looking better and better. You haveme wanting to build another one haha.

Rob - Excellent, excellent work on that Defiant. I really like the way it came out, and I can't ait for them to release the 1/48 version next year. You did a great job on that, and I'll definitely be referencing it when I build mine.

Excellent build Rob.  I love the look of your Defiant.  Makes me want to get a 1/48 version.

Keep up the great weathering and building.

I'm going to launch right into 'Done' on this small bird. It was a great kit and a welcome addtion to any 1/72 RAF collector. I'm really enjoying Airfix's new tooling. So, yes, this is a Boulton Paul Defiant Mk.I with a member of No.264 Sqn, Martlesham Heath, Suffolk, England, July 1940. They weren't very successful during the B of B, but, they did eventually prove themselves as capable night fighters. I will do this kit again and do the night fighter version. It's OOB and painted with Tamiya acrylics, Valejo Air and burnt sienna artists oils. I oversprayed it with decanted Testors dull coat. She's representative of a massively overused and battle hardened fighter. Thanks for looking....had a bit of a disaster witht he tail wheel which you will see later...

You can really see the salt weathering 'mottling' in this next pic

AND, there she ISN'T!! Yup, the tail wheel went AWOL sometime between last night and today. I noticed it a few hours ago, thus, a search was moot!! Gone. I'm going to have to find a source for AM tail wheels!! What a bummer....

That's it. Going to get some work done on my big WnW project and I just joined the One True Scale build, so, lots to do!

I was so engrossed in this project this weekend, I realized I was forgetting to take pics, so, I'll be skipping ahead to Decals ON and weathering started. I used artists oils for panel lines and streaking. It is more apparent on the bottom against the Sky. I also wanted to take antother crack at salt weathering. I slightly overdid the left wing, but, tamed it down for the rest. I'm still experimenting with this technique.

Thanks BD it's very much appreciated! This kit really is a joy to build. Though I have a ways to go to match yours!

Finally made some progress on this build. Since last update I've sealed the decals with future, added an oil wash, some chipping around the gun access panels and I've sealed it with a flat coat of Tamiya. All that's left is adding the nave lights and camera lenses. I may dry brush some slight exhaust staining with pastels. I'm also not really happy with the exhaust themselves so I'll probably repaint them. Enough talk now on to the pics...

Tried to replicate some mud splatter on the tires. Not great but came out ok.

As always comments and critiques welcome! Thanks for looking!

Owl, Rooster and Rob - great job on these builds so far.

Rooster - It's been fun watching you build that Hurricane. I found it to be a fun kit to build, and yours is coming out excellent.

Got some more progress during this 'busy' Thanksgiving weekend (Canadian, Wink). Had to wait until the holiday monday, and after everybody left to lay down the upper side pre-shade and primary dark earth overcoat. I was going to start right into the post shade, but, alas, NO flat white to tone down the dark earth....oh, well, a trip to the LHS after work today.

Rooster, Rob, and Owl, your builds look great!  Since I have each one of those kits in the stash, I'm watching your builds with interest. I should be starting my 110 today.
