Comming algon nicely GR.

Taxtp, I'm intrseted to see the 27. Nice bird, I miss seeing it fly.

I need to complete my own 47 build before the deadline, so I know what you mean.

thanks, now that the majority of the assembly and painting is done, I've gloss-coated it for decaling.

It's funny you should say that. I was getting nostalgic today about watching the 727s and DC-9s of the two Australian domestic carriers of the 70s, Ansett and TAA, flying overhead when I was a kid. This one will be an early 90s scheme though, I don't have time for the 70s Ansett scheme now, but it's definitely coming later one.

You can't see inside these little 1/200 planes, so this is all the prep I've done prior to closing her up:

and afterwards, with the fuselage seam all tidied up :)

Cheers

Looking good GR, TaxTp, !!! I'd definitely load up and vary the ordinance on the F-15 if I was building it too. I really like Model Master's "Burnt Metal" enamel paint, it looks great on stuff like nozzles, exhausts. Even has the little "heat rainbow" to it. I finally peeled the masks off of the canopy on my 1:48 B-29 superfortress, I just need to get some pics of it, and get somebody to hang it from the ceiling for me. (what else do you do with a Model plane with a 36" wingspan?!?) As a side note, I used PFM (pledge floor stuff) as a gloss-coat before my decals, and it left a visible "stain" where it was used, you can see it through the dullcoat layer over the top. I either need to find a different gloss-coat, or just make the underlying layers as smooth as possible to not have to use a gloss-coat for decals.... This is only really my second use of this technique, and both times I though the results were rather poor and could be seen after all was said and done. Rudy

I tried using Future on another kit and it gummed up my airbrush, so I usually stick with Testors Gloss Lacquer. Although it did seem to really screw up the finish of the alclad titanium on this jet.

I'm starting in on the decals for my mudhen, it's got way more stencils then I have ever seen on a model.  It almost makes you wonder what the Air Force thinks of ground crews at Strike Eagle Squadrons, since this thing needs so many NO STEP stencils.  The hog I just finished for the Gulf War GB only had a couple dozen decals, and almost no NO STEPs.  This Eagle, on the other hand, has over a hundred decals, including several dozen NO STEPs.

I primed the 727 yesterday and sprayed gloss white today, but no photos as yet. Here is the last shot before primer.

It's looking OK so far. Although the decals I have cover and wrap around the vertical tail surface, showing an Australian flag, I'm thinking that it will be very hard to get it to look good due to the T-tail that the 727 had. I'm thinking of spraying the tail surface blue, then cutting the starts and Union Jack from the decals and applying them over it. I have to check whether the stars on the decals are opaque enough before I even consider it.

Cheers

I don’t envy you that paint job. My simple British Airways 747 is giving me fits.

This is what I'm talking about...

On the plus side though, the wings and horizontal tail planes are all gloss white with BMF slats at the leading edge. Should be quite OK to do.

Looks great! Man, that is a tiny little plane! I dig that logo... Here is my canopy, came out O.K. for as poorly fitting it was. I think the issue was more the opening it went into was improperly shaped. The masks from E.Z. Masks (out of Canada) worked pretty good too, those things are a godsend on a compound-curved canopy like this.... The plane is going to hang from the ceiling, so im not too worried about it. Just need to put a couple antennas on it, and do some weathering.

Not the best fitting canopy, but it still turned out great. I still can't get over the size of that thing.

Nice looking Superfort.

After a few days, and probably 6 hours of work, I finally finished the decals.

I see the box for Fat Albert behind your B-29 Rudy...you must really like them big. ANyway I like your 29, it will cast a decent shadow when hung from the ceiling.

Your F-15 Looks great Ghostrider, I like the finish.

I've had to do the decals on the 727 tail the hard way. Steps are as follows.

1. Spray it gloss white.

2. Mask of an area where each star will be located, as and Union Jack too.

3. Spray the tail blue using a mix to approximate the decal blue colour.

4. Cut the stars from the original tail decal, leaving just an outline.

5. Remove the masking, to reveal the white background.

6. Apply the star outline decals to the white areas.

7. Slice up the Union Jack into small pieces and apply it the to tail.

8. Fill in the necessary areas with blue applied by brush.

It'll need a few coats of clear to settle it all in

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Now that is a great masking job. This is what I was saying, Masking airliners looks easy but rarely is.

G'day!! Well I am here still. Unfortunately have had to move and now have very little space to live and do modelling. I have packed the Mudhen for my move so unfortunately will have to pull out of this build as I have yet to find the box I put it in amongst the whole stash which I was NOT going to part with. However I will be an exuberent spectator and look forward to getting some more bench time, which my new partner is more than willing and encouraging me to get to it and start cranking out the things that I love. She's a true gem to have in my life when I needed it the most.Bow Down

YesModelcrazy, much appreciated mate! If i have enough time to finish and find the lil dirtdobber, I will rejoin.

Ghost, that is looking great mate! I'd hate to be on the receiving end of all that iron lol!! One question, is the lower engine cowls supposed to be that yellow? I ask because they are a titanium honeycomb sandwich, lol with wide countersunk fasteners that when working around them with most loose you have to really watch your head, otherwise the crimson tide starts flowing lol. Trust me they hurt!Bang Head

the Alclad I used was the titanium gold color, so there was some yellow to them, but unfortunately the gloss coat reacted with the alclad and brought out some of the darker pigments.

Bugga! That wasn't good. Anyways, other than that she looks great!! Iused to work on them at Robins AFB in Georgia and have seen them stripped down to just the fuse carcus. Main gear doors are fused titanium. Had a dispute with a co-wrker one day, he said the plane we were working on was a C model. I sai it is not it's an E. Without even looking at documentation i could tell by the main gear doors because they were a bit bulkier and walked up to the door and gave it a tap to hear the ring tone. Aluminum skinned Cmodels just had a thump when tapped lol.Whistling

Now that I'm on the home stretch, I decided to tackle the clear parts sprue. Unfortunately, the canopy had a big seam down the middle of it. It took some time, but I managed to sand and buff most of it out, and gave the canopy a dip in some Future.

Hey, That's some good stuff that I'm seeing. Working on the picture problem, but I finished the B66 and finally the BUFF yesterday. Bought that fella 8 years ago, it came with no instructions. So it took some time to figure out where what goes. Thank you guys for letting me join and making me get up and work. Hope to take part in another one in the near future.

Well i'm looking to get my British airways 747 completed tomorrow night and i'm building a quick surprise build. A Lufthansa 727 before the GB ends. Painting is almost complete, just sprayed gloss black to get ready for the Aircraft Aluminum . That will finish me off with 3 builds in the stable. there was a time I wasn't sure I would get anything done for this build

Pics tomorrow.
