Ok, I'm officially finished.

Here's a couple pics of the finished Mudhen.

And, on it's final display shelf, next to my Gulf War GB A-10:

Agreed GR, nice work, and it looks great on the shelf. Thank you for being a part of the build, I hope you enjoyed it.

For a Revell kit, this build was deceptively difficult. This was a kit that had been calling to me from the shelf at the local hobby shop ever since it came out, I'm glad I finally got around to taking a crack at it. Thanks everyone for your support, and thank you Modelcrazy for hosting this GB.

GR,
Sorry I didn’t have the time earlier to properly give you kudos on your build, but it turned out great. I know you had some issues with the decals but you really pulled it off. I love the extra touches you did like the remove before flight warning pennant.
This GB has been fun, and it seems crazy that it is only going on for 16 more days.
WOW, where did the time go???

I’m done with the Hasegawa 1/200 British Airways 747. I’m not really happy with it, but it is what it is. The Decal Draw decals were very thin, which snuggle down great, however they tear apart easily. This is OK if your applying insignias, but long decals of windows and doors (admittedly in 3 sections) is a little harder and tore getting them off the backing.
Now for the Airfix 1/144 727. I’m going to use the Lufthansa livery from the kit. It’s moving along quickly.
Airfix had the wing fences on the trailing edge of the wing instead of the leading edge so I needed to do some surgery.

The bottom half of the design will be Alclad Aircraft Aluminum. It’s an easy livery design so this shouldn’t cause too much of a hassle, this will be nice with 2 weeks left in the GB.

Steve, I like the 747, it grabbed my attention right away.   After reading the troubles you had, it looks even more impressive!  Yes

Steve your 747 looks great!!!! I have the RoG 1/144 747 that I hope looks half as good as yours! Well done! I'm going for a Qantas livery on mine, as I used to work on them.

Steve, beautiful work as usual on the 747! I had a lot of troubles as well with my 787 in United livery that I did, the decals were aftermarket as well and were extremely thin. Some tore very easily, especially the windows and others I had to apply attempt to match the background color because of the translucency of the decal.

Thanks guys,
Jeremy, I’m sure I won’t have the same issue with the Airfix decals, probably the opposite.

Yeah, my first experience with Airfix decals was a couple weeks ago with the 1/72 zero i did. Great little kit; however, the decals were SUPER thick and I had to use several coats of Microsol to get the things to settle down into the recessed panel lines.

I painted the gray and the Midnight Blue on the tail. I’ll let it dry, wet sand the tail and spray again. Everything that’s black at this point will be painted with Alclad.

Hey MC,

Your 747 looked terrific, I really liked it. I've  had a couple of goes at the Hasegawa Jumbos over the years. Great progress on your 727 too. I've got a later boxing of that kit, so I'm interested in what you find. I had that one and sold it, but I'll look out to pick it up again I think.

My Hasegawa 727 has progressed. Spraying is complete, letting it dry a couple of days then final bits and it's done.

I'll post a photo this weekend before I start on it again.

Cheers

Tony

Gotta say I love your 727 Modelcrazy. I found a few specs in my gloss coat, so got rid of them, washed it and sprayed another clear coat. It'll delay the thing by a couple of days but I needed to do it. I'll still make the deadline easily enough.

That's a great looking 27 Tony. What do you use for the white?

I primed with Tamiya aerosol fine white primer, then used their TS-26 Gloss White. The clear coat is Mr Super Clear, also an aerosol can.

The Boeing 1 is progressing. The fuselage is together and the lower wing is mounted. I'm leaving the step-by-step in my dedicated thread for the project. This is my first progress report, and I figured this was the obvious place since I started it just for this Group Build and the 100th anniversary is getting closer. Maybe a little too close for comfort.

That’s really turning out great Steve, almost there! Yes
I sprayed the Alclad, so I’ll let that dry and start the decaling.

With less than two weeks to go, I finally figured out what I'm going to build, a Douglas A-26 Invader. She will be marked as a fire bomber that was operated by Rosenbaum Aviation from 1969-1972.

LOL Lewbud, you need to boogie if you’re going to make it be the 15th, but I guess you’re the master at the weekend warrior builds.
I’m done with the Lufthansa 727. This will be my 3rd build for the GB and I finished with 10 days to spare.
The kit was a decent kit, what you would expect from an older Airfix. I had problems painting as I typically do with an airliner which is too bad as I really enjoy building them. There were a few items of painting that weren’t painted out in the instructions, areas where one would assume the decals would take care of, at least for the Lufthansa livery.
Anyway, here it is.

MC that looks GREAT! Beautiful finish on what I think is one of the best looking airliners ever built, the original three-holer!

It looks great to me MC, I love that style of livery with the natural metal and gloss white seperated by a cheat line. I can't pick the faults that you mention in the photos. I think its very well done.

Here's my 727, also officially finished. It's in Ansett Australia livery from the 1980s. THe last few photos are of my three 727-200s, all in different Ansett livery dating from the early 80s to Ansetts sudden demise in 2001. They are all the same aircraft, registration VH-INR, and cover the service life of that aircraft with Ansett. I still want to do another 727-200 in Ansett's 1970s scheme, and a 727-100 in Ansett-ANA colours from the 60s, but these will have to wait for another GB.

The model is ok, but just ok. In the end a few flaws bothered me.

Looking at the models completed for this GB, I'd say it's been outstanding, and a big thank you to everyone that has contributed, but most of all to modelcrazy for administering it.

Cheers

WOW! Tony they all look great!! Love the finish on the most recent addition! MMMMMM 727s Eats Wish I had enough room to finish a build that was started by a friend of mine years ago. He bought a 1/72 727! It's huge lol. Used to work with him, he found out that I model in 1/72 and was clening out his stash a bit and wanted to know if I wanted some kits. Stupid question lol. One of the ones he was getting rid of was this 1/72 727! I could have kissed him lol , not really butI was over the moon. I didn't even know that there was a kit of the 727 that size!

Oh yeah, 727 heaven! That’s a great idea, to follow the career of a single SN.
That looks great Tony and I don’t see what you’re not happy with.
Thank you for joining in and Cody will get you up on the wall when he can, although he has been missing as of late.

Tony, fine looking build, very well done! Yes

Noticed the wings are white, and not the usual metallic finish seen on airliners.  Was this something peculiar to the 727, or more specific to the Ansett Australia liver?

Jack
