in this bottom photo the dots appear to be perhaps some kind of camo scheme on the missile?

Could be the Terex Co. logo.Devil

Weird, looks like something was layed down over the green before the sand was sprayed on.

GM, nice work on the weapons bay. I look forward to getting over the hump and finally digging into my bag of Evergreen assortment to do something like you've done.

GMorrison

So because the cabin windows are projecting fisheyes, Greg asked about hints for transport aircraft and the like. I often spray external color on the sides all around where the windows go while the fuselage halves are still separate. Then glue in the windows, join the halves, and mask both the windows and the immediate area around the side out to a panel line. Then putty, sand and paint the assembly. It's easier with airliners, mask the window stripe, We'll see here, I may not get a good match for Hemp next batch.

See if you can tell the color around the windows in this poor light shot. I shot the pieces with straight XF-57, then the window area with Morrison "Hemp".

That's just the sort of info I was hoping for as I watch you build your transport bird. Thanks!

Good to see another start here, castel.

Not sure what the correct term is for an undercarriage on something with 4 or more wheels (or tracks), but it surely looks nice and detailed. And I'll bet there was more to it than met the eye.

Finally it's starting to look like an airframe. Man this thing is big. If it all goes together right, my hat is off to Hornby.

The last AM stuff came in- decals. The kit still will provide what must be about 200 stencils. Final markings tbd. But that's not immediate.

castelnuovo

Finally managed to get some work done on the Piranha. The bottom part was quite a little project.

Cheers...

looks nice. i did the Canadian 8x8 LAV-III when i got into warwheels.  i just bought a second one because it was fun and i am a better modeler now. it's a shame no one sees the undercarraige.

Great to see you start Castelnouvo. Maybe pose it on a mirror when you are finished?

this has been really fun so far. got some priming done so i can start on painting the missile control section interiors. also started on the cab. the doors have sink wells on the inside as do some interior pieces so i just went nuts and puttied every one just in case. the doors will be seen, doubt the others would be but...

got the elevation assy done without breaking any handles. not sure what is going on at the rear. the instructions aren't clear and the DML instructions aren't any clearer.

First there were some sections that might be seen so i just added some "internal structure". the big hole i will explain shortly.

Obviously most of what i added won't be seen and will be black anyway and the erect missile will hide it BUT that's me. I did putty the bottom but you can still see some seam but it will be on a base so i didn't fix it. a point for not being totally obsessed with seams.

on pic 3 that shaft is suppose to go inside but doesn't seem to fit and doesn't seem to attach to anything. not clear in the instructions. i looked at where it could go and just drilled out a big hole. of course, as i don't have the mounts attached i eyeballed the path.

the missile still showed seams after priming so i tried some more sanding and scraping before repainting and maybe having to add putty. given how i do missiles, towed guns and RR guns, and locomotives one would think i have the cylinder seam thing down. HA!

Castel, it looks you are off to a good solid start on your LAV! So much easier to do their wheeled suspension than some of the modern tracked stuff!

GM, That looks really sharp with what you did on the weapons bay of the Nimrod. I look forward to seeing more progress!

Wayne, your Scud is really coming together very well and you're obviously are making rapid progress. I am really likeing this project!

OK, 11B, you and your kit have been added to the front page roster. Welcome aboard.

I presume from your screen name that you went thru Benning in 87? Sand Hilton or Harmony Church? Wink

Sand Hill A 1-50.

Thanks again for adding me to the build, and all the welcomes. I have just started modeling again last year after a 15 year hiatus, so I am rusty but getting better at it...sort of like riding a bike, you never really forget techniques.

Nice to meet you. Thank you for serving our country.

One thing about this particular group of idiots is that we like questions, lots of questions. So that the rest of us in the gallery can hear answers to questions WE don't want to ask.

But seriously, there's scary knowledge here.

as you are an 11B, some of us will type slowly because we know you can't read fast

like GM said ask lots of questions and some of us will be picking your brain too. Given 2 new M60A2 kits are due out, i am going to have to dig deeply to remember my time with them.

don't forget Bish he drove FV-432s  IIRC.

more Grunts just evens the odds for you guys. actually i ran a 4.2" mortar plt for 18 months too and taught small unit tactics for INF and AT, AR, CAV, and ADAduck hunters during numerous MILES NETTs

Thanks for the welcome...

I am working on Tamiya's M60A3 at the moment. I like to build Cold War/Gulf War armor, as well as WW2 armor...planes, well I have some kits from years ago in the closet I might build if I need a change of pace from armor.
