Good to see you off and running, GM.

I've neither built a transport-type aircraft nor watched one being built. Looking forward to watching yours.

Thank you, Greg.

Thank you Bish. I agree and I've never seen one in the flesh. My Yankee friends are going to have coffee come out of their noses when they see this thing built up.

I did happen to catch part of "Thunderball" on the TV last night. Always a pleasure to watch the Vulcan footage. I did once see a derelict Comet on the ramp at Munich, many years ago.

I also just ordered a set of decals from Model Alliance, for "Guernsey Girl" XV258 201 Squadron based in Seeb, Saudi Arabia. The Airfix sheet, while big, had a Corporate Nimrod, several from the Eighties, and Maid of Moray.

Speaking of Hornby. It may be me, but their plastic has gone downwards. I'm having problems with ripping and spalling while sanding. I really bolluxed up a sprue attachment point, don't you know, midway back on the top of the fuselage.

Bish

I think that's a great idea for the badge.

Wayne, would it be awkward of me to ask if you could make a larger version as well. I find they get distorted when enlarged.

hey BISH how big do you want it?

I swung by the LHS today after getting a haircut to pick up some strip styrene. I'm gonna scratch up some the field mod jerry can racks like on this BMP that some Iraqi vehicles carried.

That's good reference, Carlos. Amount of detail could be intense.

Speaking of the LHS, tomorrow I am picking up two tins of Hu 168 Hemp, one tin of Hu 166 Light Aircraft gray.

Ah, I'm keeping it simple... yeah I've said that before... But the kit has no opening hatches, link and length tracks, etc. It's not a major endeavor...

Wayne, about 200 pixels would be great if that's ok.

GM, ye, a Bucc would be nice. I was thinking about the Airfix one before I opted for the Chally. that Airfix plastic don't sound god, is this a new tool kit.

Well, research gives her a warload of nine stingray torpedoes and one SAR raft kit. Kit comes with four torps and all kinds of other crap like Harpoons, depth charges. Gonna scratch up a bunch of torps.

I have been busy with the puma and got a good start thus far, Most of the time was spent creating the avionics that are behind the instrument panel and on the sides below the tail rotor pedals.

Here are some before and after pics:

There was a comment/ question about naval actions. This from Wiki:

"First Gulf War

During the Gulf War, six naval Lynx helicopters were deployed to the Gulf on four frigates and destroyers of the Royal Navy. On 24 January 1991 one Lynx engaged and sank two Iraqi minesweepers near Qurah Island. A third was scuttled.

A larger engagement took place on 29 January 1991. A force of seventeen Iraqi landing craft and escorting fast attack craft and minesweepers was detected moving south near Failaka island, as part of the Iraqi attack which resulted in the Battle of Khafji. Two vessels were sunk by Sea Skuas fired by four Lynx helicopters. The remaining vessels were damaged, destroyed or dispersed by American carrier-based aircraft and Royal Navy Sea King helicopters.

The next day, another convoy of three Polnocny class landing ship, three TNC-45 fast attack craft (taken over by Iraq from the Kuwaiti Navy) and a single T-43 minelayer, was detected in the same area. Sea Skuas fired from four Lynx helicopters destroyed the three fast attack craft, and damaged the minesweeper and one landing ship; the landing ship was later destroyed by RAF Jaguars.

During several engagements in February, Lynxes with Sea Skuas destroyed a Zhuk class patrol boat, a salvage vessel and another Polnocny class landing ship, and damaged another Zhuk patrol boat."

No doubt MR.2's were involved in detection and tracking.

GM, thanks for posting that. I had not realised any of that, i think the naval side of the war gets highly over shadowed by the air campaign and the big sweeping ground offensive.

Tarted up the weapons bay. Not much reference to go on, I suppose for the usual reasons. I mostly copied details from pics of an AM resin part.

And I think I nailed "hemp".

Weapons bay looks good GM. And thank you for the naval actions summary. I had an Academy classmate who was a Marine reservist activated for the war. He spent the combat portion offshore in the amphibious diversion and was kinda peeved at that afterwards.

started the SCUD. Lesson 1. look very closely at the tire halves. while it appears the 3 slots are 120 degrees apart and the same size i don't think they are. sorta forced one, second and third went smoothly so i looked at the tread and saw the error on first, pried it apart and fixed it. same with fourth. there is an axle that needs to be inside due to a spacer on the one tire half. i just glued it since i don't want the wheels turning. also there are left side and right side tires and mounts so keep them segregated. when the slots are correct the fit is fine. this doesn't even qualify as an annoyance just a head's up and a nice early warning to moi to dry fit and RTFI.

too bad autospell check doesn't seem to work on the new site. plus wearing shades to use it. sigh. just have to pay more attention to detail.

picking up a CH-46 in OTS but probably won't go here but parked next to my OTS JGSDF 6x6 bowser.

It looks like I will have some time to put glue to plastic this weekend. I'd like to join the GB with an M998 cargo/troop carrier using the Dragon 1/72 HMMWV w/ASK kit.

Right now Hemp is five parts Tamiya XF-57 Buff, one part Tamiya XF-26 Deep Green, and a dollop of Tamiya thinner. The green amount seems to be at the breaking point, where it suddenly turns baby poop, at about 4:1.

So because the cabin windows are projecting fisheyes, Greg asked about hints for transport aircraft and the like. I often spray external color on the sides all around where the windows go while the fuselage halves are still separate. Then glue in the windows, join the halves, and mask both the windows and the immediate area around the side out to a panel line. Then putty, sand and paint the assembly. It's easier with airliners, mask the window stripe, We'll see here, I may not get a good match for Hemp next batch.

See if you can tell the color around the windows in this poor light shot. I shot the pieces with straight XF-57, then the window area with Morrison "Hemp".

GM, you're gonna do a minesweeper? Wink

Pyr, you have been added to the roster. Welcome aboard. With you background I figured maybe one of the VAB wheeled APCs or an AMX-30 MBT would have been in order.
