Hi guys! Some progress with Tiger.

Or should I say...

When everything starts to go wrong!

Episode 1:

The kit looked very crispy and with just minor flashes. All parts went together smoothly. Untill I noticed, that I had installed few rows of wheels backwards. Parts were in right place, but should face other way. From instructions you couldn´t see that. Difference between the sides is so minor, that it is hard to see untill you try to fit tracks. So, some violence and everything was ok.

Photoetched zimmerits went in place with just little filing from here and there.

And in progress pictures.... ARE GONE!!Super Angry I am sure, that I took those, but when I started to download those from camera I couldn´t find any! That camera is new to me, so I must had to screw up with it somehow.

When everything starts to go wrong!

Episode 2:

I started to paint Tiger. I choosed same camo for it than was used in Sturms. Red brown base, bigger green areas and dunkelgelb lines.

Well... that red brown what I used was more red than brown! On the lid it looked ok, but when sprayed it was red.

Only pictures what I found was these two taken with my crappy cell phone camera.

When everything starts to go wrong!

Episode 3:

Well, that red propably can be fixed with filtering. So more paint. Green was next... And I took the WRONG CAN! This time too dark! Too late to suck it back, when your pants are full of...Zip it!

Oh well. This is good opportunity to practice filtering skills! Or then I just turn it to winter camo at the end.

Dunkelgelb looked okStick out tongue

Does anyone else get that feeling, that this tank just needs few anime girls climbing on top of it?

Trabi,

That is a real pain, but thanks for sharing with good humour.

After the red coat I was thinking more of Warhammer, but yes I can see this tiger in Girls und Panzer. Big in Japan, models available...

No progress on the MB5, just back from holiday.

Trabi: The colours are a little bright and stark but otherwise doesn't look half bad. As you say the weathering, washes, etc should tone her down some.

OK Bish, I guess I have no choice now, back to the Eugen LOL. I don't have anything else on the bench....except the little Schnellboot that came with the kit. Ha, that out to make a cute little water scene.

To be serious though I need to get back to the Eugen if I'm going to take her to the Sep contest. I open the German radar PE set and studied them last night...yikes! I get some new pics up soon.

Very good posts Trabi. I wouldn't get to hung up on the colours, it is a what if after all. I like the choice of scheme.

Ok, I got some time at lunch the past few days to do some work on my He-162.

Construction of this thing was easy. It basically fell together, and fixing the seams was pretty painless, even by my whiny standards.

I primed the whole model in Mr. Surfacer 1500 Black, and I shot the RLM 81 parts with Mr. Paint (not Mr. Color/Mr. Hobby/Gunze) RLM 81. If you haven't used these paints, you're missing out. They're crylic and prethinned for airbrush use, and I love them. They provide some colors that tend to be missing in a lot of ranges, like the MiG cockpit turquoise, Soviet AMT colors and RAF Extra Dark Sea Gray, for example.

Anyway, I got the RLM 81 on, then masked for the RLM 82, which is just Tamiya XF-5 Green. I'm using a color profile in Kagero's book on the Me-163, Me-262 and He-162, which came with nice Cartograf decals. While I like the scheme with the bare metal parts, I decided to go ahead and do one fully painted, since I imagine had the war gone on, they would have painted them to give more protection against strafing attacks while they were parked.

Next up is masking for the RLM 76 on theunderside, and then it's on to decals.

I have to say, I'm not a fan of the schemes on these and thought about varying, but I decided to keep it pretty much as it appeared in 1945, under the assumption that they wouldn't have made drastic changes going into '46.

Trabi: I'm sorry that you have met with such issues on your Tiger. Yet, I'm going to give you high accolades for your "sticktoitiveness". It is good to see that you didn't give up on it and just continued on. Yeah, the colors are a bit off kilter but, like Bish said, it is a what if build. I'm excited to see what you do with your weathering. Not sure what you turned your "some violence" on but, I'm glad it was not your Tiger. Gret work.

Brandon: Your 162 is looking right sweet. Mr Paint? Where do you obtain said product?

Nice work on the 162 Brandon. I know what you mean about the scheme, prety bland compared to most other German late war schemes.

Thanks, Bish and Joe!

Joe - The first batch I ordered, I got from them directly at mrpaint.sk (they're out of Slovakia). Shipping was surprisingly fast.

Now, however, www.hobbyworld-usa.com carries them. That's where I got my most recent order.

I received the replacement barrel two days ago. I would have posted an update with pictures earlier, but when I had finally gotten around to downloading the pictures, I discovered that someone had been putting finger smudges on the lens againConfused

So, here's the rundown, currently without pictures.

The actual turned metal barrel that comes with the Voyager set seems decent. The details look like they could have been crisper, and it seems too light compared to the Trumpeter barrel, but it's okay.

The star of the show is the brass muzzle. Absolutely superb! It's just two pieces, and it looks great. I'll be fitting it to the Trumpeter barrel I think, since the connecting peg on the Voyager barrel isn't actually a good fit for the muzzle, and it looks like someone did a really bad job with the metal lathe, as it's really rough around the connecting peg. It takes a lot of force to jam the muzzle into place, and even then it's not quite flush.

This must have been an early product from when Voyager was a new company, because otherwise I can't explain the quality issues. Still, the muzzle is great, and that's all I care about.

Moff, those figur smudge faires really do get everywhere.

I have not tried a Voyager barrel, is there no way to open the hole for it.

Well, the barrel has the male attachment point, and the muzzle has the female attachment point. It looks like the barrel's attachment point is really deeply scratched and dinged up, and all of the scratches are catching on the edge of the muzzle's attachment point. It's not a big deal though, because the muzzle fits the Trumpeter barrel, and I was going to be able to use the Trumpeter barrel anyway.

Steve: That's coming along great. I love the look you've gotten on the wooden deck. And that's some sharp detail painting between the wooden deck and the grey superstructure.

Moff: Sorry if this sounds stupid but can't you take a file to the attachment peg and sand down the rough area a little? In any case since it was an ambush type weapon you could always wrap a bit of camo netting or foliage around the trouble spots.
