Looks like a nice kit. I just got my first FM aircrfat kit a couple of days ago, one of there 410's. There kits do seem to have some nice detail.

How big is that tank, i am guessing about Pz IV size.

Ok, here's what I've got here:

Box top:

Hull parts, the hole in the lower hull is I think a lower escape hatch not a battery/motor mounting hole:

Lotsa road wheels:

Turret parts and full main gun as well as rest of the hull:

There's a sprue of clear parts as well I didn't take a photo of.

Four sprues of tracks, oddly here they're in two parts, top and bottom which are sandwiched together to hold the links in place, see step 17. So they should be workable once assembled:

I assembled about half/two-thirds of the lower hull and running gear last night. So far really good fit and thoughtful design. Nowhere near as many parts as I'm used to with AFV Club and Dragon kits. Hopefully I'll have her assembled soon.

Happy New Year everyone!

Bish, Good to see you out of the blocks in fine fashion. Appears to be some solid work on the modifications.

I've got a rather full plate today but, I'll try to get some preliminary shots up today.

Let the games begin!

Nice to see you start things off with a bang Bish.

I was thinking about where I stand and like Dan I need to knock off two builds for Steve/ModelCrazy that are sitting at about 90-95% that I can't seem to pull over the line along with two independent projects that are also around 90% that I can't seem to finish.

Still I'm going to get something done on the Type 5 this weekend even though I may be a little slow at first.

Managed to get a little done this morning, so thoguht i would post a short update. This is the kit, though i am sure most of you are familiar with it.

Before i start on the cockpit, there 2 things i need to work on on the underside. Firstly the bomb bay. It has braces to support the load supplied with the kit, but i will be adding a single 4,000kg A-bomb, so i need to remove the braces and try and add somthing for the bomb i am useing.

I also want an open enty hatch. Theres a panel in between the bomb bay and front wheel well, and i figure this would be the right place for it. Unfortunatly i got carried away and started cutting before i took some pics. But you can see where the hatch has been removed.

I would normally replace the cot out bit with some sheet styrene. But the part has two nice recessed areas which make for good locking mechanism's for the hatch, so i am going to tidy this up and thin it right down.

Thats it so far, going to work on the bomb bay tonight.

Yeap, it's nine o'clock here on the east coast of the US/Canada and I'm working today- I'll try to get some photos of the box contents tonight and then get some work done on the running gear. Hopefully photos before the weekend is out.

Last night I was skipping though the channels looking for something to watch and found a New Who marathon on BBC America and ended up watching to one in the morning... First time for me to spend the new year with the Master and a bunch of marauding Daleks... Wink

Ok guys, 1946 is now officially with us. So lets see some plastic.

I think what most people are seeing is the inside of their eyelids.  Cool

On the other hand, I have been working on some plastic, but not for this group build unfortunately.  Want to see pictures of a Mossie? Drinks

I'm sure the members will soon be stumbling to their benches, if they can get out of the bathroom first!  Big Smile

Gary

So i want to wish you all a happy New year, and i look forward to seeing some more great builds from you all. I have closed the vote for my second build and its now official, i am doing the E-100 Jagdpanzer.

See you all on the other side.

Thanks for all your help! The Germans seemed to have made everything so organized it's confusing.

I still don't know what's up with the difference in barrel shape between the Trumpeter kits and  all the other kits. Hopefully nothing important.

I had to look hard to see the differance, but i have not found any proper reviews as this are usualy really helpful. And welcome to the world of German armour. prepare to have your brain scramebeled.

Moff, ye i saw that thread. But just to keep it simple, the 12.8cm L/61 was the gun fitted to the Sturer Emil. I am pretty certain the gun on the vehcile you are building was the L/55. As it mentions in the other thread, the L/61 was just longer than the L/55.

Oh, ok. All the photos of the Jagdtiger barrel (and aftermarket L/55 Jagdtiger barrels) I had seen looked way shorter, though I guess that's because of the enormous mantlet and superstructure.

I could have sworn the Emil had the same muzzle brake as the Waffentrager, but after looking online I guess not.

As you can tell, I'm not very good at historical researchStick out tongue

Don't worry, anything to do with Germany in WW2 often leads to a lot of confusion. I have ben studying it for the best part of 30 years and i still get baffeled.

Also note that on the Jagdtiger, there is no muzzle brake, so that will make it slightly shorter. And of course, much of the gun is inside the vehcile, unlike on the towed pak gun or the Waffentrager.

If those are the L/55 variant, what's the L/61?

FYI, I have basically the same conversation going in my Gun Designations thread, if you just want to post there.

Moff, i am pretty certain its the same gun, should both be the L/55. My guess, Trump got it wrong. But, of course, this is a what if, it could be a newer version of the gun.

I'm looking around for aftermarket stuff on ScaleMates, and I noticed something weird. All the other kits and aftermarket barrels of the 12.8 have a different shape from the one used in Trumpeter kits. Notice that the Voyager aftermarket barrel and the GWH set have an extra "step" in them, while the Trumpeter barrel (bottom-most pic) does not have the extra "step":

I suppose maybe the GWH gun is a different variant?

Bish,

The Luft 46 and the Paper Panzer are two great builds. I have had my eye on a Paper Panzer for a couple of months now.

Hi Bish. I have a question: I have decided to do a 'never left the drawing board' version of the Me 264 , is that acceptable?

hey RED what model is this? i have the Special Hobby one but need to reinforcer the wing roots to hold the wings on.

have you added to roster and not going to allw you to change it now.

Good man. Keep me honest, besides my wife will see to it that I finish it since it was she who purchased it...in a roundabout way.

That always a good incentive. My other half is always asking me when i am building the kits she got me.

I just found a review on tha kit which says its easier to back date it to 1941 than it is to make a 1941 kit into how it looked in 45. So a good move by Trump there.

I did mention the Eugen in my write up.

Oops, yes you did, sorry.
It will be the Trumpeter 1/350 with the Pontos wood deck AM. The kit comes with PE and the reviews are pretty good. Another cruiser this year for your build like the Indy. She will be in the water at Bikini awaiting the nuke test.
The kit is designed as she was in 45 when she was taken as a war prize. The dementions were taken from the US Navy after her capture so se will look like she did at Bikini.

Steve

Looking forward to seeing that. I have just ordred the Revell 350 Bismarck and was thinking it would be nice to get the Eugen as well. I am sure there will be some inof out there to back date it to 1941.

Despite this sad end, i was hoping someone would do the Eugen. have you added to roster and not going to allw you to change it now. Whistling
