Cheers

I think the Mustang looks fine with the square wingtips.  Now when the Spitfire appeared with the squared off wing tips, that just did not look right.

As for the engine in the P-51, that would be the Rolls Royce Merlin, which also produced engines for  the Spitfire models.

I guess Bish is a bit more patient with me, and did not seem to mind when I intially had  thought of doing a Seafire, which is just a naval version of the Spitfire. Stick out tongue

regards,

Jack

lol, no, you just didn't come in on the wrong side of that discussion.

Steve, not a problem. Shame to not see the Pershing, but these things have to be done. Just let me know once you decide and I will change it.

Bish,

I'm going to change my entry. Not sure what it's going to be now but I'm thinning my stash and the Pershing was the first to sell.
I will update when I find something...There's just so much to choose from.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

It's just something about the squared off wingtips and tail that makes the whole thing look angular and boxy to me.

That's because it is. Good eye Wink
That's the same reason I don't care for the Hellcat or, shame on me, the Fw-190. Their tail just doesn’t look right to me.

Fair enough, you want to know my dirty little horrible secret..... I think the P-51 is a really ugly plane...

And I wonder at some accounts you'd think the only aircraft the USAAF operated were the P-51 and B-17. I'm a much bigger fan of the P-40, P-38, and P-47.

I grimace on 'Saving Private Ryan' at the P-51 'tank-busters' - ok I guess they used what they had and it was better than a CGI P-47 or Typhoon but still I wonder if they tossed it in since the Mustang is the only fighter most American viewers have heard of.

BTW: If I finish the Japanese tank in time maybe I'll toss in a Hawker Tempest to compensate for BD's Seafire? Big Smile

Why, how dare you say the P-51 is ugly!  It's beautiful, graceful, witty and charming! It's the greatest aircraft ever built in the history of the world (even if it does have a British engine in it).  I'd let my daughter marry it!   You, sir... dare I say it... are unAmericanDevil Wink

PS> And if any of you are wondering what this stuff is all about, it concerns a certain thread on another forum in which the relative merits of a certain British aircraft were called into question.  Why, I thought I was watching a meeting of the British Parliament with the "Harrumphs!" and "Why, I nevers!" that were flying!  Big Smile

Gary

Lol, you and Steve are right, I dunno why I never liked the looks of the P-51 but I've never found anyone who agreed with me here. It's just something about the squared off wingtips and tail that makes the whole thing look angular and boxy to me.

I guess someone had to do it, but still

Glad to have you on board Tony, will add it to the roster. I have just seen your 45 entry, are you on a fogeign aircrfat in French markings kick.

Hey! It wasn't me!

Spitfires... really?  Wink

What? You mean the anorexiac Hurricane? Stick out tongue

Careful you say that in front of the wrong Brit i.e. about 90% of the population, and that would mean war.

Lol, funny, I've think I've mentioned it before as one of my favorite fighters. Looking back I think I've built more Spitfire models than any other sort of aircraft!

I can honestly and proudly anounce i don't have a single one. Big Smile

To be honest, its not so much that i don't like the Spit, i am just sick of having to choke on it while being told how it saved the world.

Maybe I should add my Special Hobby Seafire Mk. III (or is it a Mk. II?) in either Irish or French navalmarkings?

Tony, i don't know why i thought that was French. I just thoguht the image was making the colour lok odd. I think it was because i looked at the 190 at the same time and read French.

Looks like a fun collection you have going on there.

Only 3 weeks to go, and you have that 190 to keep you busy. Please be sure to check out page 2 and have a vote.

Hey Bish,

German aircraft in French markings. The 190 I've entered in the 1945 GB is my second French one, and I'm nearly finished a 108 (or Nord Pinguin) in the Weekend Madness GB.

The Belgian Spitfire I've entered here goes towards my Belgian collection, currently only populated by a solitary Hawher Hunter, and also my foreign Post war Spitfires collection, to join a Swedish and a Turkish Spitfire XIX.

All this looks like good fun, I can't wait to crack them open.

Cheers

Tony

I would like to jump in with my Tamiya 1/48 Do-335, will be converting it to the B-1 (heavy armament) varient, and will go with a late war camo pattern.

<Matt

Matt, is that an AM conversion set for that kit. I have seen it converted into a 2 seater before, but not the B-1.

Hi Bish,

I'd like to join in the fun with this one please.

I'll use the Academy Spitfire XIV but add the camera port, and Aeromaster decals 72-070. I've been wanting to do this one as part of a Post War Foreign Spitfires project that I've got running.

Cheers

fireboat is box scale looks like 1/85 (close enough for HO scale figures but some come with the kit).

i have to fill the wings of the 264 and create some type of heavy attachment peg and hole in the fusalage so the wings stay on.

Wayne, I like the look of that. And not only does that give us another ship, but also our first none military subject. I think I am write in believing this is not a What If build but an historical one from 46. And it will be really nice to see that 264. What scale is the Fireboat by the way, I can't see it on the package.

Gary, that's all sounds good to me.

No worries, i will get that sorted. Just as long as its not a Spitfire Wink

Okay, NO SPITFIRES!  They never existed anyway.  They're just a British legend.  Like King Arthur, and Robin Hood, and John Churchill, Duke of Marlborough ( and Winston for that matter)!  Wink  Let's talk real aircraft, like the DH-98 Mosquito...
