BrandonD, that PE is already looking really nice. That should be one nice pit when complete.

Ok, my Lublin R.XIIIter Hydro will be my first build of 2016 (well, at least the first one I'm starting. I may build another simultaneously).

So far, it's a lot of PE madness. I glued the wing together. It's four parts, and just like the real thing, Mirage molded this single wing as left and right halves. So I have a bit of seam cleanup ahead, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well the parts fit.

The floats went together well for the most part, but will need some seam cleanup. More importantly, it looks like Mirage molded deep panel lines where there should be a smooth surface with rivets. All my reference photos show a slick surface, so I plan on filling all the lines, sanding them smooth and then hitting them with my new rivet tool.

The kit cockpits basically include two seats mounted to bulkheads, and instrument panel with little detail and a control stick that just goes into the floor. Some framework is molded on the insides of the fuselage.

In short, I'm glad I ordered the Part PE set, even though its instructions are rather vague.

The only part of the kit cockpit I will be using is the control stick, as the PE set comes with the control wheel. When the Polish Navy ordered the last of its R.XIII hydros (numbers 714-719), they ordered them with standard control columns. As I'll be building 714, I grafted the kit column onto the PE linkage.

That's all for now, but I am already liking this subject, and this group build. I think it is always fun to get away from 109s, 190s, P-51s and Spitfires and build the less-storied planes. Floaters tend to fit the bill nicely.

Real G - Wow! That molding is just... I don't have the words. However, when it's all closed up, it will definitely play the part and probably not be noticeable.

BrandonK - I remember pulling off a huge swing and a miss whiff when I tried to build that Kingfisher as a kid. I tried putting the PE on with solvent glue, and it went downhill from there. I still have bits and pieces of it in the spares box, but no clue what happened to the main components. I look forward to seeing yours, and all that aftermarket tossed in on it.

I spent a couple of hours cleaning up all those bits and then I began to assemble some of it; at least what could be assembled before I must add paint. Now that I have some of it together I can see how it all falls together. I thought my head was gonna exploid when I first tried to desipher those instructions.

Hi guys,

I am new to the forum (already posted a welcome in the appropriate section on here). I would like to participate in this group build. I do not know what I will build, but I am actually a paper modeler...if that would be alright.

Best regards,

RunwayOneSixRight.

Well, it's time to get things rolling. SO, here are my entries.

A Hasegawa F1M2 1/48 and a OS2U Kingfisher 1/48. I plan on getting the F1M2 done first as the Kingfisher is getting an engine, open cowling, detailed engine bay, resin cockpit front and back, resin main float (corrected), full re-scribed, squadron canopy, white metal beaching gear, and as much scratch detail as I can handle. Since this kit is very old and is not built this way and no one makes AM parts for the cowling and engine bay, that will all be scratch work. Tongue Tied. This one will take me quite some time I think.

So, let's have some great fun this year.

And yes, there are TWO Kingfisher kits cuz I think I made need some spare parts for this project.

Real G, the Mequires Plastx is a thin paste wax/polish that works just like automotive car polish only it is made for use on plastics like tail lights and headlights. It is amazing stuff and it is in no way like Future. Here is the image.

I know, thats the problem, they are the only ones producing these sujects. Of course, the same applied to Huma, and there kits were quite nice, if lcking detail. But they folded while Mach 2 marches on.

Steve, oh okay so it kind of works like Future.  I have a headlight polishing kit that I am supposed to use on my sis' car, so I'll divert a little for tests.  The Seamaster's canopy is not usable though as it is totally wrong.

Bish, yes Mach Poo is still in business and releasing new kits!  Why?  Dunno!  The Poo just keeps coming out.  But they sure have an awesome sense of subject matter!

I really shouldn't complain too much.  I'm a big boy now, and I should be able to tame this beast.

Three more hours until...bedtime.  And the New Year!

Though i am not sure the word modern really applies to these kits. Is this company still running.

G, PlastX is a clear plastic scratch remover for car headlights that comes in a squirt bottle.  My V-22 windshield was so bad you couldn't see through it. One application of the PlastX and it looked like glass.

Steve,

What is PlastX?

I was going to use sheet plastic to make the primary profiles and to define the window frame locations, fill the spaces with epoxy putty, then use plaster to make a female mold for vac-forming.

BTW, has anyone tried household hydrogen peroxide on yellowed vac canopies?  I recently saw on-line somewhere that it was supposed to work.  Permanently, I know not.  Probably not.

G,  I had a worse problem with a windshield on a V-22 Osprey.  RobS suggested I use some Meguiar's PlastX. Kinda pricy but worked like a dream.

Okay before we kick off, how about a little horror show?  Surprise

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Mach Two P6M-2 Seamaster:

Canopy.  Framing is wrong, shape is wrong:

A sampling of the beautifully formed parts that defy one's expectations of a modern injection molded manufacurer:

And finally, the "instruction sheet" (both sides!):

If one approaches this kit thinking that it is actually a Combat Models vac-form, it looks entirely buildable! Stick out tongue

Happy New Year guys and gals!!!

Happy new year, all!

Actually Airfix has a real nice 1/72 already. There is one posted in the forums, sweet looking kit. But, I gotta pimp it up all myself. Pleasure from pain and all that jazz.

My bad, it's the old kit with some love added.

BrandonK, you are a brave man.  You do realize that when you are done, someone will announce a new-tool Kingfisher in 1/48!  And I can see Airfix doing one in 1/72, after they have had their fun with all the staple British subjects.

BrandonK - Maybe buy the new 1/32 Kingfisher kit?

I did and I will use it for some reference on the 1/48. But, the build is a pimped out Monogram with open cowling and resin pit and corrected float. The open cowling is gonna be the hard part, I have to scratch build the exhaust manifolds. YIKES !!

Bish - The Ar-232 I have had multiple fuselage penetrations from the ejector pins, short shot detail bits, and a missing tail cone transparency.

Mopar Madness - Yeah the um "clear" parts are like toenails!  The Seamaster's canopy is little better, and it has a completely wrong shape!  Definitely going to have to vac-form a replacement.

BrandonK - Maybe buy the new 1/32 Kingfisher kit?  Smile

Be prepared to vacuform a canopy!  The clear plastic is horrid. With a patient approach though, it builds into a fantastic looking kit that ya' ain't gettin' nowheres else!  Definitely worth having in the stash for any Luftwaffe fanatic.  Best have a few modeling years under your belt though! Lol.  Ok, back to floaty thingys!

Thanks BrandonK!

Bish, I wonder why people keep buying this guy's stuff? I also bought (yes bought) the Ar-232 "Millipede" and Coleoptere. I won't confess any more because no one can prove it!

You want a confession. I have actually thought about getting one of those 232's. I know, i know, its a Mach 2 kit. But come on, who else does it in this scale.

One day, i will give in to the demons.

I'd like to squeeze in with a 1/48 MPM Arado 196, please.  Amazing what one finds in the stash when you start looking for a GB kit!  Didn't realize how many water bugs I have so there may be something else after the 196.

Some cool stuff in this, looks like a "boatload" of fun!!!

I have you on the roster. Welcome aboard.
