Bish

On behalf of all who took part, thanks Chris.

Unfortunatly, the armour GB's have not been a great success over the last couple of years. A lot of the hard core armour builders have moved on. But, if no one else does, i may try this or something similar in a few years.

Sorry to hear that Bish. When and if you plan on another I will definitely join in. I am not up to speed yet on how things are done exactly....but if you plan on another one please don't hesitate to ask and I will help you with what ever. I mean that.

Chris

Thanks Chris. But failing an armour specific GB, theres usualy a more general one that some armour can be squeezed into.

Have you been able to see many of the pics, unfortunatly i think we lost a lot with the Photobucket issue.

Bish -

I have been able to see 60 percent of the photos. I've always heard that PhotoBucket was a difficult sight to deal with. I prefer Image Shack, I have had no issues with them.

Well, at least you got to se some. Ye, it was getting more of a pain every day. I switched to Flickr some months ago, but their recent escopades have meant we have lost lots of pics.

Hello everyone,

First, thank you Bish for letting me post my build for this GB after the closing date. I am very sorry Bish for missing out on the GB (You know why). I apologize to all the members in the GB for not following along.

Now for my build. I originally had a different half track planned for this build, but I am holding off to use it for a dio I have planned at a later date. So I will be building the kit below. Again, thank you Bish,

Be back soon.....

Looks cool Hunter! Those 1/48th Tamiya kits look pretty nice.

Grumble, after I overran the finish date my halftrack has been just sitting there in the box.

Hey Gamera!,

Thank you sir. I have already gotten a good bit done tonight. The fit and instructions have been great. I have had to do little to no filing on it so far. The pieces are dropping in nicely.

Heck, if you have the time...join me and we will finish them together. I know your vision has been off making it difficult to work with smaller details. I thought I would put it out there if you wanted to finish it.

Thanks! I've not got much left to do- it's just one of those projects that everything possible went wrong with it and I ended up disgusted and shoved her back in the box. I'm going to try to get her done but now my phone doesen't want to focus correctly which is hurting my ability to take photos... Sad

Well I got some time in on the kit, and I must say it has been a blast putting together. Great instructions and fit....this is my third Tamiya kit and I am happy with it also. Now this is my first track build so I know I will make mistakes putting it together, not painting something first, and everything in between. So, please don't hesitate to point out any and all errors.

I have been reading and seeing a black primer base applied to give a highlight after the tank or track is constructed and painted. If not...I'll be fixing it LOL

Off to a good start. I tend to prime my armour grey, but black works just as well.

You may have already thought of this, but just in case, be sure to paint the interiour before adding the upper part of the hull. I know its open topped, but its much easier to do it that way.

I did...while I was looking over the instruction I saw all the small pieces that went into the interior and thought I better paint the interior before adding anything. BUT TRUST ME.....THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING THAT. This is my very first track build so I am totally unware on have to best assemble this. Sure, I can follow this instruction to the "T"....but getting helpful tips to improve my skills and make this a better build is IMMENSELY APPRECIATED! Thanks for looking in Bish...sorry I'm the only one left. Whistling One question....should I paint the tracks metallic grey before installing them? I am in the process of assembiling the tracks right now....man they are small pieces LOL

Looking good Hunter!

Personally I'd just spray the interior as Bish suggested, assemble, spray the whole thing, do any washes, drybrushing etc, and then add the tracks last. You probably shouldn't make the tracks too metallic, paint them a grey or dirty brown and then drybrush steel would probably work better.

I paint my tracks black, dry brush steel and then weather.

Remember, this vehicle has rubber track pads, so keep those black.

I stopped and looked at that....THANKS BISH. They do have the raised track pads. My man Bish!

I went back after reading how you primer your tanks and it made a big difference. It stands out better to finish working on the small details. I have to say I have had a absolute blast building this. I will be doing this....during my instruction preview prior to starting the build I am going to look closer and highlight those comments in the instructions "Remove Before Installation" that got me once today Bang Head. Thank you again for all your handy suggestions and tips. GREATLY APPRECIATED

At this point I went back and applied a light grey primer

World of difference

I have to stop for the moment....I have to get the yard work done. Sad

Thanks agian Bish for all the help.

P.S. - This one's for you sir....also making it my first dio.

Hunter: Lookin' good. Nice work!

Bish: Thanks for the information here too. I'd seen the pads on the tracks on old Tamiya 251 but had no idea they were rubber.

Tep, not many German vehicles had rubber pads. They did try tracks without in 1944, to help with the rubber shortage, but the vibrations caused issues so they switched back.

Well, I got a lot of small work done this morning and early afternoon. I have been learning a lot off of this build when it comes to "Do's & Dont's". First, I should have practiced on something besides the halftrack on doing a "wash". I made the inside of the H/T look horrible LOL....unexperienced!

I still srtuggle with the paint before, or after it has been installed. I am learning that it is easier to paint prior to installation. Still learning. Plus, I don't know why but I was shaking badly today while hand painting small items.....No Coffee prior to painting. LOL

Please don't hesitate to point out errors or mistakes. Thank you!

I got some stuff last night for the dio

Thank you for looking....again, any tips, suggestions or just to point out errors please don't hesitate to inform me.

Hunter it's looking very good, and commend both you and Cliff for continuing even though this GB is over.

For painting small parts, or detailing, make sure both your hands are resting on something solid, like the edge of the table.  Even if your painting hand is resting against the other for some support should help reduces the 'shakes'.

regards,

Jack

Looks good Hunter!

And good luck with the diorama. I think you'll find that they're fun when you start one. And not that hard to do.

Jack: Lol, thanks but I've done nothing- the kits been sitting there in the box since the end date.... Embarrassed

Thanks a lot Cliff...I'm looking forward to the dio portion. I got a lot of small work done today..almost there lol. The things I have remaining...crates, bombs and figures. Oh yes figures....going to be the first time doing those. Many first with this build LOL.

Had to go back and fix the front bomb cradles...put them on backwards LOL

Coming on nicely Hunter, looks good with the racks on.

Are you useing the figures that come with the kit for a dio. The 35th kit comes with the same figures and i did a dio with that many years ago. So i will be loking forward to seeing yours.

Hello Bish,

Yes, I plan on using the figures that came in the kit. I am kinda going to follow the box art...but slightly different. Thank you for looking in.

Hunter, she looks good together!!!

And if you need help with the figures there's loads of videos on YouTube. I wish I'd had it back when I started painting them- it was more like stare at photos in a book and try to figure out how the painter went from step 5 to step 6 at times.
