I have found myself selling off stuff on eBay and months or years later and then was buying the similar ones I sold off. Just food for thought.

When I think about all the kits I wish I still had from doing this. Bang Head.  For the longest time I kept selling off the 72nd because I was going to go strictly 48th. Then a few years later do the same in the opposite.  Now I realize I like both.

Bish buddy:

As an old timer in this hobby, interests come and go and most of the time returns. Sometimes wishing you had never sold that or the other one.

I have found myself selling off stuff on eBay and months or years later and then was buying the similar ones I sold off. Just food for thought.

Anyway,  both yours and Steve's are coming along.

Thanks PJ. I am only really talking about 4 or 5 kits, so its not like its a major cull of the stash. My interests have been pretty fixed for a while. If its German, i'll build it,anything else has to be a good reason. And i have enough other things like Sci-Fi to give me enough variety.

I am not definatly set on selling them, i might just keep them at the back of the stash and see if they grab my attention one day.

Bish: Nice progress there and I think we all know what you mean about starting something and then losing interest. My hats off to you for pushing though instead of tossing it back in the box like I too often do.

Steve: Nice work on the F-8 too!

Thanks G, well its all done now, will get some pics up soon.

Time for an update on the 1/48 Eduard Mirage IIIC.

I've been slowly chipping away at this one, but the end is finally in sight.

After dealing with paint that I hated, I was able to get the decals on, then go for a ton of stencils.

For the underside paint, I used Mr. Paint's new bare metal primer, topped off with some misting of Alclad in various shades, salt weathering and finally some general dirtying up.

With the decals on the topside, I wanted to add some definition to the paint, so I did some oil dot filtering, then added some enamel filters to try to break up the monotony of the blue. I think I left things a bit too subtle, but I'm kind of just pushing this one through to the finish, and maybe I'll be able to do a little more after I drop another clear coat on it with pigments or some additional enamel stuff.

Right now it has some more weathering on the underside than in the pic above, and I finally got the gear legs on it last night. I forgot the nose weight, but it does sit level (barely) with the ejection seat added, however once I add the fuel tanks and missiles it will tail sit again. However, I left the lens off the light in front of the nose gear, and it's big enough to slip BBs through, so I'll add three or four, drop some CA glue in and call it good.

I feel like this has been on the bench forever!

Ok, one more pic - I got some time to work on it at lunch and got the fuel tanks attached, along with the guns (not pictured, as they're underneath.

(Yes, the bang seat is sitting on the canopy to keep the nose down here).

Hopefully I can wrap this tomorrow night by finishing painting and decals for the Sidewinders and Matra missiles.

Greetings all! I realize I havent posted here since back in August, sorry about that. I have to admit, I shelved the U-2S, it was turning into so much more work that I was willing to give. To the point that I have/had a serious case of builders block for awhile. There are just so many issues with the kit that I didnt feel that I had the skill or patience to do it justice enough to complete for this GB. After joining the wings and pods and the nose, the fit is terrible, there are so many gaps and steps that it is going to obliterate the panel lines and it would take forever to rescribe the surface detail. I will eventually finish the build, just not in time for the end of this GB.

BD, wow, she looks simply fantastic. I am looking forward to seeing the completed pics.

jelliot523, I know how you feel in regards to not having the drive to work on the pigs that sometimes come our way. However, remember this GB runs all the way through NEXT year too. So, you still have time to pull it out.

This is where I'm at on the F-8. I have the paint applied so next will be the decals. The wing and tail feathers are removable for now which helped immensely with painting. After the decals, I'll put on a pin wash and sludge wash.

Have I mentioned I hate white?

EDIT: Oops, I forgot the black nosecone.

BD: Wow, she looks great! Never thought of trying dot filtering on a plane but I can see your point of breaking up a single shade of grey there. Yes

Steve: Lookin' good! And yeah, I don't like white that much either.

Jelliott: Yeah, you do have a good while yet till the end of the GB. I'm a little stalled out on the F-16 here too. Just other more pressing stuff right now.

Steve, it looks really really good. And yes, white is a pain. But, I find that as long as I reprime the area to be covered in white then the white goes down without issue. Applying white over any darker shade is an excersise is in anger management.

BK and Gamera, you are right, I'll have plenty of time, for some reason I thought it was ending at the end of this month. I'll get her done, I'll start back on the U-2 when I'm done with the TA-3B that I'm getting ready to start.

Finally got around to starting my EA-6B.  So far the wings are together, as are the underwing stores.  Markings will be VMAQ-2. Normally I would complain about Hasegawa smoking the canopy pieces, but they are almost dark enough to hide the basic cockpit that Hasegawa is known for.  Pix to follow.

BD - that Mirage is looking sharp, will have to give the dot filter a try when I get to my F-16XL (hopefully not too much longer).

Steve - your F-8 is looking sharp.  Well done, the white looks great.

Finally got around to taking the final pics. Decals went on pretty well for Academy. As you can see, i didn't do any weathering, just left this clean. I didn't do a base eitehr, which is a first.

Sorry about the pics, i have now setteled into my new dn but still need to sort out a decent photo setup.

If nothing else, this has confirmed that 72nd is the right scale for me.

Thanks for hosting this BK. I may try and jump in before the end and do somthing i can really get my teeth into to make up for my poor showing here. I am planning on an He 162 build early next year, so i migt enter those as i think they fit.

Thanks BK. Its not turned out to bad given my lack of enthusiasm for it. I am sure i wil do a better job on the 72nd one when i get to it.

Nice work Bish. For a kit you weren't keen on. It came out very nice

Bish, for not being into it you sure didn't show it. After Christmas, you should sell it to make room for more the OTS Stick out tongue.

I completed the F-8 wing. This is the the first time to try a "sludge wash" with wet pastels. I'm fairly please with it. This plane has been at sea for a while and use a lot.

The first picture is the pin wash followed by the sludge wash on the starboard wing, the second picture is the completed weathering.

Thanks guys.

Steve, i am sure i will find some where for it to go. Having filled every spare inch of wall space with shelving, and know this is as much as i will have, i know i need every bit of space i can find for my builds.

I like the results on the wing. Thats how i often apply Flory wash.

Bish: She looks really good. There's something to be said for a clean aircraft so you can see the lines of her. I suppose you can add a little weathering later on if you decide you want it.

Steve: Nice looking work there! I've been using more and more sludge washes. Seems to be easier and give better results.

She looks good Steve. Still looks funny painting her with no wings but I can see with the movable design why you'd leave it off at this point.

Thanks Gam and BK. This is a really nice kit, I highly recomend it if your looking for an F-8. The decals also went on very well.

Bish - that looks great! I always loved that aircraft, and you served it well.

Modelcrazy - Nice job so far on that Crusader. Have you seen the pic of one flying with the wings folded?

I'm not sure how you oops that, but apparently the A-7 and F-4 could both fly with wings folded.

Thanks for all the kind words on the Mirage. I am nearing the finish line. I got the nose weight sorted - I bought some .177 caliber pointed pellets and used my pliers to crimp them down so they'd fit through the landing light hole in thenose, then dropped three of them in, and it sits as it should now.

All that's left is the seat and a few fiddly bits, so hopefully I'll finish soon.
