ARMOR - Small AFV Group Build, all scales done
Posted by beav on Wednesday, March 17, 2004 7:09 PM
Hey, how about a small AFV's group build, would anyone want to do it? If so, It would have only small stuff like jeeps, universal carriers, and armored cars and halftracks. From any era. Any scale you wish.
Would anyone want to do this-as there are billions of little kits out there, and some are really very good, but they don't get the attention they deserve.
Any takers?Question [?]

we should get more people!

I suppose it is time to draw the main lines, however, I am sorry to say them.
Anything from motorcycles, jeeps, kubles, klettenkraftwagens, halftracks, armored cars, and other odds and ends that are AFV's, NO TANKS, or FORMER TANKS(like those converted to prime movers or TRVs)

It's sounds like the larger vehicles-FAMO's and Dragon Wagon's will be included, but they are stretching the envelope, and anything bigger, might not work.
Any scale will be allowed, as long as a diehard doesn't by a 1/1 scale kuble or something like that.
Also, I would perfer that we keep more to the name "small" with stuff like Universal carriers, and jeeps.

I think that do to the other group builds, happening at this time, we should do an official start around April 2, and have a definite no more can sign up for this build date around May 20th or something like that.

I will be building Tamiya's M-20 Utility Vehicle, and maybe a British Quad Gun Tractor.
Give a small model a chance!(besides they are really cheap)

Hey, t3488g, let's get some others!
I might do like a universal carrier(I always liked them) or a ford MUTT.
maybe even humvee's could be included

I'm currently building a DML Sdkfz 250/1 Neu. It's a German WWII Half-track.

I've ready started. Have all the parts cleaned up. Have painted interior. Have not yet painted the exterior. Because of sloping armor and tough angles to try and paint, I'm finishing much of the interior before the I assembly the upper hull, with the inward sloping armor, to the main body. I figured once these two main parts of the body were glued together some of the interior would be 'nigh on to impossible' to paint and have it look decent. Have not yet cleaned up the indy track links yet. That's coming soon!

I have a Tamiya Schwimmwagen I wouldn't mind doing so as to start at the same time as everyone else.

How about a nice little Dragon Wagon? I've got one that's been begging me to get off my big butt and build it. I can't get past cleaning up the 19 tires.

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

Does small AFV mean I could do a 1/72 Jadgtiger?
If not I have a Kubelwagon sitting around, although I don't know if it has enough protection to be considered Armored (kinda like a ShermanWink [;)]).
If there's no hard time limit I'm in.

So, would a 1/16 Kubelwagen be OK? It's not a "little kit," but it's the only "small AFV" I have.

what is a sticky?
Dragon wagon?!! [:0]small AFVs!Angry [:(!] the dragon wagon is not small, or a fighing vehicle, but its up to beav to decid if you want in, i don't care, the more the marrier!Wink [;)]

it will be 4 days plus shipping until i can start. i am going to buy from http://www.militaryhobbies.ca/ great site! Cheaper than my lhs! free shipping on orders over $50 and because it is canadian: no annoying customs cost. i have ordered from them before so i know it isn't a scam.

no room on my diorama for a kabulawagon though..............well there could be but it would be to cluttery..............or would it?............Mischief [:-,]

Hmmmm. Another group build. Sounds cool.

Is willy's MB with a trailer acceptable? I saw one in the LHS being sold for 2 Bucks.

I have an old SdKfz 250 Greif kit I've been kicking around for a while (Tamiya). I'm ready to build it.

When??

P.S. - I've started cleaning running gear already.

Ok, all, here is another guidline, check the original post-we have to draw the line at heavy vehicles-sorry, and if it is just the M26, then I think that it should be fine, but sorry ausf, you can't do a small tank, as compared to other 1:72 things, it is quite large. and Large small afv's in the 1/16 scale range is fine-because compared to anyones 1/16 Tiger, it is also small, and the willy's MB is totally cool.

I think you have to contact one of our supreme leaders to make it sticky, i.e. David?

This one sounds cool, but I sort of commited to two other builds. May drop out of the gun and tow, not sure. I've seen many halftracks that intrigue me, but I love that little Universal Carrier. Should be an easy build(for once) if I don't build the figures.

Just a thought, but to try to help avoid the build up of sticky group builds that never seem to be removed from the beginning of our armor forum, perhaps we should not make this a sticky. The weekend group did ok without a sticky… If the thread remains active it will be near the top, or just bookmark the thread if you are worried about loosing it.

Like I said, it was just a thought.

OH, hey, that's a great idea-so far armor forum is the only one with a "sticky jam" that I have seen yet. That is a good idea edog. Saves a bit of hassle. Anyone else want to chime in on this?

Hi guys,

Regarding Phroosh might, Phroosh will.

I really like the idea of group builds.

I looked in the cupboard and I have a Sdkfz 223 also, so it's either that or another Kubel!

I will make this a sticky post, only if the admin of the forums, will as expressed by shermanfreak will clean out the dead or slowed down sticky's. otherwise it will have to stay at the top of it's own merit.
