...How did you go about masking the blue on the nose of Lady D?
...I like the OD you have too, was it normal MM OD that you used?
Hey Andy, first of all, thanks for taking a look and the compliment. Let me go ahead and answer your questions.
First, yes, the OD is MM straight from the bottle. Thing is, I primed my kit with RAF Sky then painted random "patches" of browns and yellows on the upper surfaces of the airframe before spraying the OD. I got the color differences by varying coverage. Then I went back in some places with thinned MM Faded OD to add some depth.
Now, as far as the masking question goes, I figured it might be easier to explain with a few pictures.
First, I use a circle template or circle cutter to give me the radius I'm looking for.
Then I cut my circle in half to give me both "sides" of the chevron. Of course, you could use the whole circle and cut out four. I like to cut mine in half because, in my opinion, it's easier to work with the halves versus the wholes.
Next, I lay down the circles with their radii touching where I want the "point" of my chevron.
Mask what you want to protect from overspray...
Shoot your color (in my case fill in with pencil) and...viola!
Anyway, hope this answer your questions and helps with your builds. Of course, I'm sure there are easier ways of masking chevrons, but this method works for me.
Thanks again for looking!
Cheers,
-O
