Thunderbolt GB 2016

Here's the start to my Hobby Boss P-47. I will be doing this OOB and looks to be a very easy weekend build. Like I said before, the paint job will be the most difficult.

Starting with the cockpit. Nice detail on the floor and IP but the walls are lacking. for the rest of the kit, the gears are molded on the wheel doors and the engine and cowl are one piece. The panel lines do look nice and are recessed. I believe I got it on sale for $10 when our last Hobby Town went out of business.

Ok, So I'm wrapping up my Beaufighter and I am going to start on this GB. I'll be doing a Promodeller P-47N. I've read it's a bit of a tricky kit, but there are lots of parts. I don't think it will be as bad as the Monogram P-40, so it can't be all that bad.

Great looking build there Jonny, i like the red canopy framing. I was looking at my decal sheet the otehr day and that has an NMF canopy on an OD aircraft. Must have been a popular feature on 47's.

Georgia Peach of the 510FS, 405FG flown by Captain Edward Curry Powell is complete. Mostly happy with how this turned out. This was my first complete NMF in a very long time.

Nice work on the masking Andy

Got the props done for both. Now I know why there was a lot of complaints from the pilots about the original Curtiss prop. Look how tiny compared to the Hamilton Standard 

Got the cowling masked off and painted with Tamiya red. Quick gloss coat on these and on to decals!

Just dropping in to show a couple pics of the ID stripes and antiglare panels painted up. Next will be masking the cowling...

Hey all, just a check-in to say that my build is still alive, it's next up when I finish my Gekko in the Japanese Group Build, going into the paint booth shortly.

There's some great work being done here and I look forward to being more involved. MC you really are crazy - great work on the plane, figures and display. Omar, I'm still in awe - you built four Jugs in the time it takes me to open the box.

Dropping in with a quick update to prove I've been working along on my P-47D. Got it all cleaned up and primed and was able to shoot it with Alclad Duraluminum. I'm still learning to work with this stuff but am pretty happy with the results. Next I'll be starting on painting the black stripes on the tail and need to continue work on the engine.

This is better. Now I can call it done. Thank you for following along like I said it was an enjoyable kit and would eventually like to add the Italeri C.205 to go next to it.

Actually I had the gear doors on the wrong side, but was able to swap them around last night. Let me get some new pics and I'll let you know.
